Crystal Bavistin is a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide containing Carbendazim 50% WP (Wettable Powder), manufactured by Crystal Crop Protection. It is one of the most trusted fungicides in Indian agriculture, known for its dual preventive and curative action against a wide range of fungal diseases affecting field crops, horticultural crops, vegetables, and fruits.
Carbendazim, the active ingredient in Crystal Bavistin, works by disrupting fungal cell division, stopping the growth and spread of disease-causing fungi. Because it is systemic in nature, the fungicide is absorbed by the plant and moves to every growing point, providing protection from inside the plant tissues. This makes it effective even against diseases that are hard to reach with contact fungicides alone.
Crystal Bavistin is suitable for use on a large number of crops including paddy, wheat, cotton, groundnut, grapes, apple, brinjal, cucurbits, peas, beans, sugar beet, and many more. It controls diseases like blast, sheath blight, powdery mildew, leaf spot, anthracnose, scab, tikka leaf spot, loose smut, fruit rot, and several others. The product can be applied as a foliar spray or as a seed treatment depending on the crop and disease. It is easy to mix, compatible with most commonly used insecticides and fungicides, and provides long-lasting protection when used at the right time.
Key Benefits
- Broad-spectrum control – Effective against a wide range of fungal diseases including powdery mildew, leaf spot, blast, scab, anthracnose, and smut across many crops.
- Preventive and curative action – Works both before infection sets in and after disease appears, giving farmers flexibility in application timing.
- Systemic protection – Absorbed by the plant and moves to all growing points, ensuring complete internal disease control.
- Long-lasting effect – Provides extended disease protection, reducing the need for frequent sprays.
- Easy to use – Wettable powder formulation mixes easily with water and can be applied with standard spray equipment.
- Good compatibility – Can be mixed with commonly used insecticides and fungicides, making it convenient for integrated pest management.
- Versatile application – Can be used as foliar spray or seed treatment depending on the crop and disease requirement.
How It Works
Crystal Bavistin contains Carbendazim, which belongs to the benzimidazole group of fungicides. Carbendazim works by binding to the beta-tubulin protein in fungal cells, which disrupts the formation of microtubules during cell division. Without properly functioning microtubules, the fungal cells cannot divide and grow. This stops the fungus from spreading within the plant tissues.
Because Crystal Bavistin is a systemic fungicide, after foliar application it is absorbed through the leaves and stems and moves upward through the xylem vessels to all parts of the plant. This upward movement ensures that even new growth and unsprayed parts of the plant receive protection. The fungicide accumulates at growing points where fungal infections often begin, providing targeted protection where it is needed most.
The dual action of Crystal Bavistin means it can prevent new infections (preventive action) by stopping fungal spores from germinating, and it can also stop existing infections from spreading further (curative action) by killing active fungal mycelium inside the plant tissues. This makes it a reliable choice for both routine disease prevention and for managing active disease outbreaks in the field.

When to Use
Use Crystal Bavistin at the first sign of fungal disease infection in the crop. Early application gives the best results because the fungicide can stop the disease before it spreads widely. For preventive use, apply when weather conditions are favourable for disease development such as high humidity, rainfall, or cloudy weather.
For seed treatment, treat the seeds before sowing to protect young seedlings from soil-borne and seed-borne diseases like loose smut in wheat and barley, sheath blight in paddy, and seedling blight in jute. For foliar application, spray when disease symptoms first appear on leaves, stems, or fruits. Repeat application may be needed if disease pressure is high or if new infections appear. Always spray in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler and the spray droplets can dry slowly for better absorption.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Calculate the required amount – Based on your crop and disease, measure the correct dosage of Crystal Bavistin as per the dosage table above.
- Prepare the spray solution – Take half the required water in a clean spray tank. Add the measured amount of Crystal Bavistin powder and stir well. Add the remaining water and mix thoroughly until the powder is fully dissolved.
- Spray application – Use a clean sprayer with a fine nozzle. Spray evenly on all parts of the plant, especially the undersides of leaves where fungal infections often start. Ensure complete coverage of the crop canopy.
- For seed treatment – Mix the required amount of Crystal Bavistin with the seeds in a container. Shake well until all seeds are uniformly coated. Dry the treated seeds in shade before sowing.
- Timing – Apply in the morning or evening when the sun is not too strong. Avoid spraying during rain or when rain is expected within 2–3 hours.
- Post-application – Wash the sprayer thoroughly after use. Do not enter the sprayed field until the spray solution has dried completely.
Compatibility
Crystal Bavistin is compatible with most commonly used insecticides and fungicides. However, it should not be mixed with products that are alkaline in nature. Before mixing with any new product, do a small jar test by mixing small quantities of both products in water to check for any physical incompatibility such as precipitation, gel formation, or separation. Always follow the mixing order: fill the tank with water first, then add wettable powders, followed by emulsifiable concentrates, and finally adjuvants if needed.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear gloves, a mask, goggles, and full-sleeve clothes while handling and spraying the product.
- Avoid inhalation of the powder while mixing. Open the packet carefully and avoid dust.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product.
- Keep children, pets, and livestock away from the sprayed area until the spray has dried.
- Store the product in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water.
- Keep the product out of reach of children.
- Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
- Dispose of empty containers safely – do not reuse for any purpose.
- Avoid spray drift to water bodies, non-target crops, and flowering plants visited by bees.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
When used at the recommended dosage and as per label instructions, Crystal Bavistin is safe for crops. Overdosing or applying under extreme weather conditions may cause phytotoxicity. Always follow the recommended dosage for each specific crop. Do not apply to plants that are stressed due to drought, waterlogging, or extreme temperatures.
