Biostadt Patina is a selective post-emergence herbicide specially designed for wheat farmers to control major grass weeds that compete with the crop for water, nutrients, and sunlight. The product contains the active ingredient Pinoxaden 5.1% EC, which is enhanced with a safener called Cloquintocet-mexyl to protect the wheat crop while effectively targeting weeds. This combination makes Patina a reliable and crop-safe weed management solution for wheat fields.
Patina is primarily used to control two of the most damaging grass weeds in wheat cultivation: Phalaris minor (gulhi dabi / canary grass) and Avena ludoviciana (wild oat / jangli jai). These weeds are notorious for reducing wheat yields significantly if not controlled at the right time. Because Patina is a post-emergence herbicide, it is applied after the crop and weeds have emerged, giving farmers flexibility in timing their weed control programme.
The liquid formulation (EC - Emulsifiable Concentrate) is easy to measure, mix, and spray. It is available in convenient pack sizes of 400 ml and 1 litre, making it suitable for both small and large wheat holdings. By controlling grass weeds early and effectively, Patina helps the wheat crop grow without competition, leading to healthier plants and better yields.
Key Benefits
- Selectively controls major grass weeds like Phalaris minor and Avena ludoviciana without harming the wheat crop.
- Contains the safener Cloquintocet-mexyl, which protects the crop and reduces the risk of herbicide injury.
- Post-emergence application gives farmers flexibility to time the spray according to field conditions.
- Reduces weed competition for water, nutrients, and sunlight, helping the wheat crop grow stronger.
- Liquid EC formulation is easy to measure, mix, and apply with standard spraying equipment.
- Effective weed control supports healthier plants and contributes to better wheat yields.
How It Works
Pinoxaden, the active ingredient in Patina, works by being absorbed through the leaves of the target grass weeds after spraying. Once inside the weed, it inhibits a key enzyme involved in fatty acid synthesis, which is essential for the weed's growth. This disruption stops the weed from producing the fats and oils it needs to build new cell membranes and continue growing. As a result, the weed stops developing and eventually dies.
Because this mode of action is specific to grass weeds, Patina does not harm the wheat crop, which belongs to a different plant family and is naturally tolerant to the herbicide. The safener Cloquintocet-mexyl further enhances this crop safety by helping the wheat plant metabolise and break down the herbicide safely, while the weeds remain susceptible.
Being a post-emergence herbicide, Patina acts on weeds that have already germinated and emerged above the soil. The effect is visible as the treated weeds stop growing, turn yellow, and gradually die off, clearing the field for the wheat crop to thrive without competition.

Recommended Dosage & Application
The recommended dosage of Biostadt Patina for wheat is 400 ml per acre. The product is applied as a post-emergence spray after the weeds have emerged in the wheat field.
- Dosage: 400 ml per acre
- Formulation: Liquid EC, mix with water and spray uniformly
- Application method: Foliar spray using standard spraying equipment
- Timing: Post-emergence, after weeds have emerged
Always mix the measured quantity of Patina in clean water and spray evenly across the field to ensure uniform coverage of the weed foliage. Follow the label instructions for the correct water volume and mixing procedure.
When to Use
Biostadt Patina should be applied as a post-emergence herbicide, which means it is used after the wheat crop and the target grass weeds have emerged from the soil. This timing is important because the herbicide acts on actively growing weed foliage.
The ideal time to spray is when the grass weeds like Phalaris minor and Avena ludoviciana are young and actively growing, as they are most susceptible to the herbicide at this stage. Early control of these weeds prevents them from competing with the wheat crop for water, nutrients, and sunlight during the critical growth period.
For best results, apply Patina when field conditions are favourable for spraying, such as when there is no heavy rain expected and the weed foliage is dry. Avoid spraying during very windy conditions to prevent drift onto non-target areas.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Measure the required quantity of Biostadt Patina - 400 ml per acre.
- Fill the spray tank with a small amount of clean water.
- Add the measured quantity of Patina to the water in the tank.
