Crystal Apex-50 is a broad-spectrum insecticide that combines two powerful active ingredients — Emamectin Benzoate 1.5% and Fipronil 3.5% in a Suspension Concentrate (SC) formulation. This product is designed to effectively control both caterpillars (lepidopteran pests) and thrips in chilli crops, making it a reliable all-in-one solution for farmers dealing with multiple pest problems at the same time.

The dual-action formulation works through both contact and systemic modes of action. When sprayed, it acts on contact to kill pests immediately and also gets absorbed into the plant tissues to provide protection against hidden or sucking pests. Crystal Apex-50 also offers ovicidal and larvicidal activity, meaning it kills pest eggs and young larvae soon after hatching, preventing further damage to the crop. This early intervention helps protect the crop during critical growth stages and supports healthier plant development and better yields.

With its unique combination of a natural-origin active (Emamectin Benzoate) and a chemical active (Fipronil), this insecticide fits well into Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. It is classified under toxicity category Yellow, indicating moderate toxicity, and should be handled with appropriate safety measures. Crystal Apex-50 is manufactured by Crystal Crop Protection, a trusted name in Indian agriculture, and is available in liquid formulation for easy mixing and foliar application.

Key Benefits

  • Controls both caterpillars (fruit borer) and thrips in a single spray — saves time and labour
  • Dual mode of action (contact + systemic) ensures quick knockdown and lasting protection
  • Ovicidal and larvicidal activity stops pests right after egg hatching, reducing crop loss
  • Phytotonic action supports healthier crop growth and better overall yield
  • Liquid SC formulation mixes easily with water for simple, hassle-free application
  • Suitable for use in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs
  • Reduces the risk of pest re-infestation with systemic protection

How It Works

Crystal Apex-50 works through two complementary active ingredients that target the pest's nervous system. Emamectin Benzoate is a natural-origin compound derived from soil bacteria that disrupts nerve signals in insects, causing paralysis and death. Fipronil is a chemical insecticide from the Phenylpyrazole group that blocks GABA-gated chloride channels in the insect nervous system, leading to hyperexcitation and mortality.

The product has both contact and systemic action. When sprayed on the crop, it kills pests on contact immediately. The systemic property allows the active ingredients to be absorbed into the plant tissues and move within the plant, protecting new growth and reaching hidden pests like thrips that feed in protected plant parts. The ovicidal and larvicidal activity ensures that eggs and freshly hatched larvae are killed before they can cause significant feeding damage. This two-pronged approach provides both immediate control and residual protection.

Method of Application: Foliar spray. Mix the recommended quantity of Crystal Apex-50 in water and spray uniformly on the crop, ensuring good coverage of leaves and growing points where pests are active.

When to Use

Apply Crystal Apex-50 during the early stages of pest infestation for best results. For chilli crops, monitor regularly for the appearance of thrips on young leaves and flower buds, and fruit borer larvae on developing fruits. The product is most effective when applied at the first sign of pest activity, before pest populations become severe. Early infestation stage is the ideal application window. Using it at this stage takes advantage of the ovicidal and larvicidal activity, killing eggs and young larvae before they cause significant damage to flowers, fruits, and tender plant parts.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Prepare: Wear protective gloves, mask, and goggles before handling the product.
  2. Measure: Measure the required quantity — 200 to 250 ml per acre (or 1 to 1.5 ml per litre of water).
  3. Mix: Fill the spray tank halfway with clean water. Add the measured insecticide and stir well. Then add the remaining water and mix thoroughly.
  4. Spray: Apply the mixture uniformly on the chilli crop, ensuring good coverage on both upper and lower leaf surfaces, stems, and fruiting parts.
  5. Timing: Spray during early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower and beneficial insects like bees are less active.
  6. Clean up: After spraying, clean the sprayer and equipment thoroughly. Dispose of wash water safely away from water bodies and domestic areas.

Precautions & Safety

  • Do not exceed the recommended dosage — overuse may harm the crop and increase pest resistance.
  • Wear goggles, mask, and gloves while handling and spraying to avoid skin contact and inhalation.
  • Store the product in a cool, dry place away from children, animals, food items, and animal feed.
  • Avoid spray drift to nearby water bodies, non-target crops, and flowering plants visited by bees.
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or spraying the product.
  • Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after application.
  • In case of accidental exposure or ingestion, seek immediate medical attention. No specific antidote is available; treat symptomatically.

Compatibility

Crystal Apex-50 should not be mixed with alkaline substances or materials that may alter the pH of the spray solution. Always conduct a jar test before mixing with any other product to check for physical compatibility. If mixing with other agrochemicals, add the products in the correct order: wettable powders first, then suspension concentrates, then emulsifiable concentrates, and finally adjuvants.

PHI / REI & Storage

  • Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): Maintain a minimum of 7 days between the last application and harvest.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the container tightly sealed when not in use. Store away from food, feed, and water sources.
