Product Overview
Crystal Novelty Gold is a selective systemic post-emergence herbicide specially developed for weed management in rice (paddy) crops. It contains Bispyribac Sodium 10% w/v in a Suspension Concentrate (SC) formulation. This herbicide is designed for use in both transplanted rice and direct-seeded rice (DSR) fields, including nursery and main field applications.
Novelty Gold belongs to the Pyrimidinyl (thio) benzoate chemical group and works by inhibiting the ALS (acetolactate synthase) enzyme in weeds. This mode of action effectively stops weed growth soon after application. It targets a broad spectrum of grassy weeds and broadleaf weeds commonly found in rice fields, making it a reliable choice for farmers looking for comprehensive weed control in a single product.
The product is considered safe for the rice crop when used as per recommended dosage and is noted for its environmental compatibility due to its targeted action on weeds. With a recommended dosage of 100 ml per acre and application timed at the 2–5 leaf stage of weeds, Crystal Novelty Gold offers a practical and effective solution for rice farmers across India.
Key Benefits
- Broad-spectrum weed control – Effectively manages both grassy weeds and broadleaf weeds in a single application, reducing the need for multiple herbicides.
- Safe for rice crop – Selective action targets weeds without harming the rice plants when applied at the recommended dosage and timing.
- Systemic action – Absorbed by weeds and moves throughout the plant, ensuring thorough control from roots to growing points.
- Post-emergence flexibility – Can be applied after weeds have emerged, allowing farmers to assess weed pressure before treatment.
- Suitable for both transplanting and DSR – Works effectively in transplanted rice as well as direct-seeded rice, including nursery and main field.
- Environmentally compatible – Targeted ALS inhibition reduces impact on non-target organisms and the surrounding environment.
- Rainfast soon after application – Remains effective even if light rain occurs shortly after spraying, reducing weather-related risks.
How It Works
Crystal Novelty Gold contains Bispyribac Sodium, which belongs to the Pyrimidinyl (thio) benzoate chemical group. It acts as a selective systemic herbicide, meaning it is absorbed by the weed foliage and then moves (translocates) throughout the weed plant to reach growing points, roots, and shoots.
The active ingredient works by inhibiting the ALS (acetolactate synthase) enzyme. This enzyme is essential for the production of branched-chain amino acids (valine, leucine, and isoleucine) that weeds need for growth and development. When ALS is blocked, the weed cannot produce these amino acids, causing growth to stop rapidly. Affected weeds show symptoms such as stunting, yellowing, and eventually death within a few days to weeks after application.
Because the herbicide is systemic, it controls not only the above-ground parts of the weed but also underground growing points, reducing the chance of regrowth. The selective nature of Bispyribac Sodium means rice plants are able to metabolize the herbicide safely, while susceptible weeds cannot, providing effective weed control with good crop safety.

Recommended Dosage & Application
| Crop | Target Weeds | Dosage (per acre) | Application Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paddy (Transplanted & DSR) | Echinochloa colonum, Echinochloa crusgalli, Ischaemum rugosum, Cyperus difformis, Cyperus iria, Fimbristylis milicea, Eclipta alba, Ludwigia parviflora, Monochoria vaginalis, Alternanthera philoxeroides, Sphenoclea zoylanica | 100 ml/acre | 2–5 leaf stage of weeds |
Application Method: Foliar spray – mix the recommended quantity of Crystal Novelty Gold in sufficient water and spray uniformly over the weed foliage.
Water Volume: Use adequate water (typically 150–200 litres per acre) to ensure thorough coverage of weeds.
Rainfastness: The product remains effective shortly after application. However, avoid spraying if heavy rain is expected within 1–2 hours.
When to Use
Crystal Novelty Gold should be applied as a post-emergence herbicide when weeds are at the 2–5 leaf stage. This is the most effective time because young, actively growing weeds are most susceptible to ALS-inhibiting herbicides. At this stage, weeds have enough leaf surface to absorb the spray but are not yet mature enough to resist the herbicide action.
The product is suitable for use in both transplanted rice and direct-seeded rice (DSR). In transplanted rice, apply after the rice has established (typically 8–15 days after transplanting). In DSR, apply when the rice is at 2–3 leaf stage and weeds are at 2–5 leaf stage. Apply when soil moisture is adequate and weeds are actively growing for best results. Avoid application during stress conditions such as drought, waterlogging, or extreme temperatures.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Check weed stage – Walk the field and confirm that most weeds are at the 2–5 leaf stage. Do not apply on mature or flowering weeds.
- Measure the dosage – Use exactly 100 ml of Crystal Novelty Gold per acre. Use a clean measuring cup for accuracy.
- Prepare the spray solution – Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the measured herbicide and mix well. Add remaining water and stir again to ensure uniform mixing.
- Spray uniformly – Use a knapsack sprayer or power sprayer with a flat-fan nozzle. Spray evenly over the weed foliage. Ensure good coverage of all weeds.
- Drain water before spraying (if needed) – In puddled transplanted rice, drain excess water from the field before spraying so that weeds are visible and accessible. Re-flood the field 24–48 hours after application.
- Clean equipment – After spraying, thoroughly rinse the spray tank and nozzles with clean water. Do not dispose of rinsate near water bodies.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear protective gloves, mask, and goggles while handling and spraying the herbicide.
- Avoid inhalation of spray mist and contact with skin or eyes.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or spraying the product.
- Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water.
- Keep out of reach of children and domestic animals.
- Avoid spray drift to neighbouring crops, water bodies, and non-target areas.
- Dispose of empty containers safely – do not reuse for any purpose.
