Crystal Snapper is a powerful combination insecticide specifically designed to control hopper pests in rice crops. It contains two active ingredients — Fenobucarb 20% and Buprofezin 5% — formulated as a Suspension Emulsion (SE). This unique combination brings together a neurotoxin chemical (Fenobucarb from the Carbamate group) and an Insect Growth Regulator or IGR (Buprofezin from the Chitin Synthesis Inhibitor group) in a single product.

What makes Crystal Snapper different is its dual-action approach. Fenobucarb works quickly on adult hoppers through contact and stomach action, while Buprofezin targets the nymphal (young) stages by disrupting the moulting process. Together, they provide complete control across all life stages of hopper pests. The product is recommended for controlling Brown Plant Hoppers (BPH) and Green Leaf Hoppers (GLH) in rice at a dosage of 800–816 ml per acre. It is available in pack sizes of 400 ml, 800 ml, 2 litres, and 5 litres.

For rice farmers dealing with hopper infestations, Crystal Snapper offers both quick knockdown of adult pests and longer-duration protection by preventing young hoppers from maturing and reproducing. This makes it a practical and effective choice for integrated pest management in paddy fields.

Key Benefits

  • Dual-action control — Fenobucarb kills adult hoppers quickly through contact and stomach action, while Buprofezin stops nymphs from moulting and maturing, breaking the pest life cycle.
  • Complete stage coverage — Controls all stages of hoppers — adults, nymphs, and young — so one product handles the entire infestation.
  • Quick knockdown — Fenobucarb acts as a neurotoxin, providing fast relief from active sucking pests feeding on the crop.
  • Longer protection — Buprofezin's IGR activity keeps working on developing nymphs, extending the effective control period after application.
  • Effective on two major rice pests — Specifically targets Brown Plant Hoppers and Green Leaf Hoppers, two of the most damaging sucking pests in paddy.
  • Ready-to-use combination — No need to mix two separate products; the SE formulation provides stable, effective delivery of both actives.

How It Works

Crystal Snapper works through two different mechanisms of action that complement each other. Fenobucarb belongs to the Carbamate chemical group and acts as a neurotoxin. When hoppers come into contact with or ingest Fenobucarb, it disrupts the sodium and potassium ion channels in their nervous system. This causes rapid nerve failure, paralysis, and death of adult hoppers within a short time after application. This is the "quick kill" action that farmers see soon after spraying.

Buprofezin, on the other hand, belongs to the Chitin Synthesis Inhibitor group. Chitin is a key structural component of the insect's outer shell or exoskeleton. Young hoppers (nymphs) need to shed their old exoskeleton and form a new one as they grow — a process called moulting. Buprofezin blocks the formation of new chitin, so when nymphs try to moult, they cannot form a proper new exoskeleton. This causes them to die during the moulting process. Since Buprofezin does not kill adult insects directly, its effect is slower but more sustained — it prevents the next generation of hoppers from developing.

Together, Fenobucarb provides immediate control of the current infestation (adults), while Buprofezin ensures that young nymphs cannot grow into egg-laying adults, giving longer-lasting protection. The product works through both contact action (spray hitting the pest directly) and stomach action (pest feeding on treated plant parts).

Application Method: Foliar spray. Mix the recommended quantity of Crystal Snapper in sufficient water (typically 150–200 litres per acre for rice, or as per local practice) and spray evenly on the crop, ensuring good coverage on the lower parts of the plant where hoppers usually feed.

Note: Use the higher dosage (816 ml/acre) when infestation is severe. Always shake the product well before use as it is a suspension emulsion formulation.

When to Use

Crystal Snapper should be applied when hopper populations reach economic threshold levels in the rice field. Monitor the crop regularly — look for hopper nymphs and adults at the base of the plants, near the water line. Early signs include yellowing of leaves, stunted growth, and "hopper burn" (drying and browning of plants in patches).

For best results, apply at the early stages of infestation when both nymphs and adults are present. This allows Buprofezin to act on young nymphs before they mature, while Fenobucarb handles the adult population. Avoid spraying during heavy rainfall or strong winds. If rain occurs within 4–6 hours of application, consider repeating the spray.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Check the field — Inspect rice fields for hopper infestation. Look for nymphs and adults at the base of plants.
  2. Choose the right pack size — Select the pack size based on the area to be treated (400 ml for small areas, 800 ml or larger for bigger fields).
  3. Shake well — Shake the bottle thoroughly before opening to ensure the suspension emulsion is properly mixed.
  4. Mix with water — Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the measured quantity of Crystal Snapper. Mix well. Add remaining water and stir again.
  5. Spray evenly — Apply the mixture as a foliar spray. Ensure good coverage on the lower stems and base of rice plants where hoppers hide and feed.
  6. Clean equipment — After spraying, rinse the spray tank and nozzles thoroughly with clean water.
  7. Observe after application — Monitor the field after 3–5 days to check control levels. A second application may be needed if infestation persists, based on local recommendations.
