Crystal Splendour is a broad-spectrum systemic insecticide from Crystal Crop Protection containing Thiacloprid 21.7% SC. It belongs to the neonicotinoid group of insecticides (IRAC Group 4A) and is formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC). Splendour is designed to effectively control major sucking pests like aphids, thrips, jassids, and whiteflies, as well as boring pests like stem borers in key crops such as cotton, paddy, vegetables, and soybean.

Splendour works through contact and stomach action, and also shows strong systemic and translaminar movement. This means the insecticide moves upward through the plant and penetrates leaf tissues to reach pests hiding on the underside of leaves where sprays often miss. Its rainfast formulation ensures the product stays effective even under heavy rainfall conditions. Splendour is also effective against pest populations that have developed resistance to other insecticides, making it a valuable tool for farmers dealing with hard-to-control pest outbreaks.

Key Benefits

  • Broad-spectrum control – Effectively manages both sucking pests (aphids, thrips, jassids, whiteflies) and boring pests (stem borers, fruit borers) in one product
  • Systemic + translaminar action – Moves upward through the plant and penetrates leaf tissue to kill pests hiding on the underside of leaves
  • Rainfast formulation – Remains effective even if it rains 2-3 hours after application, providing reliable protection in unpredictable weather
  • Effective against resistant pests – Works on pest populations that have stopped responding to older insecticides
  • Rapid knockdown effect – Quickly stops pests from feeding by attacking their nervous system, preventing further crop damage
  • Long-lasting residual protection – Reduces the number of sprays needed per season, saving time and labour costs
  • Crop-safe SC formulation – Water-based suspension concentrate is gentle on plants and minimizes the risk of leaf burn (phytotoxicity)

How It Works

Splendour works by disrupting the central nervous system of target insects. The active ingredient, Thiacloprid, belongs to the neonicotinoid chemical group. When the insect comes into contact with the spray or feeds on treated plant tissue, the insecticide is absorbed into its body.

Once inside, Thiacloprid binds irreversibly to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the insect's nerve cells. This binding mimics natural nerve signals and causes continuous, uncontrolled nerve excitation. The result is rapid paralysis, cessation of feeding, and eventually death of the pest. Because of its systemic action, the insecticide is absorbed by the plant and moves upward through the vascular system, protecting new growth and shoots that develop after spraying. The translaminar property allows the product to penetrate from the upper leaf surface to the lower surface, reaching pests that hide in protected areas.

When to Use

Apply Splendour at the first sign of pest infestation, or as soon as the pest population crosses the Economic Threshold Level (ETL). Early application is key to preventing pest buildup and crop damage. For sucking pests like aphids, thrips, and jassids, spray when you first notice colonies forming on tender shoots and leaf undersides. For whiteflies, apply when populations begin to rise, as heavy infestations are harder to control. For stem borers in paddy, spray before the larvae enter the stem to prevent "dead heart" formation. For fruit borers in brinjal and chilli, apply before larvae bore into the fruit.

To protect pollinators like honey bees, avoid spraying during peak flowering hours. If spraying is necessary during flowering, apply in the late evening when bee activity is low. Do not apply more than two consecutive sprays of Splendour. Rotate with insecticides from a different group (such as pyrethroids) to prevent resistance development.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Check pest level – Inspect your crop and confirm that pest infestation has reached the threshold level before spraying.
  2. Prepare the spray solution – Fill the spray tank with half the required amount of clean water. Add the measured quantity of Splendour as per the dosage table above. Mix well. Add the remaining water and stir thoroughly.
  3. Ensure thorough coverage – Use at least 200 litres of water per acre for field crops. Aim the spray nozzle to cover both upper and lower leaf surfaces, as sucking pests often hide on the underside of leaves.
  4. Wear protective gear – Always wear gloves, a mask, and goggles while mixing and spraying. Wash hands thoroughly after handling the product.
  5. Timing of spray – Apply in the morning or late evening when temperatures are moderate and wind is low. Avoid spraying during peak heat or when bees are actively foraging.
  6. Post-application care – Do not enter the sprayed field until the spray has dried completely. Follow the PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval) before harvesting the crop.

Compatibility

Splendour is generally compatible with most commonly used fungicides such as Carbendazim and Mancozeb. However, avoid mixing with highly alkaline substances like Bordeaux mixture or lime-based products. Before tank-mixing with any new product, always perform a small jar test to check for physical compatibility. Mix in the correct order: first add water, then add wettable powders, followed by suspension concentrates like Splendour, and finally emulsifiable concentrates.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal protection – Wear gloves, mask, and goggles during mixing and spraying. Wear full-sleeve clothing and boots to avoid skin contact.
  • Handling – Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product. Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after use.
  • Storage – Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Environmental safety – This product is toxic to aquatic organisms. Do not spray near water bodies, ponds, or drainage channels. Avoid spray drift to non-target areas.
  • Bee safety – Thiacloprid is toxic to honey bees. Do not spray during peak flowering or when bees are actively foraging. If spraying is necessary, apply in the late evening.
  • First aid – There is no specific antidote for Thiacloprid. In case of accidental poisoning, seek immediate medical attention. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
