Crystal Sulphin is a high-quality, multi-site contact and protectant fungicide from Crystal Crop Protection, containing Sulphur 80% WDG (Water Dispersible Granules). It is an advanced, dust-free formulation of micronized sulphur with particle size of 2 to 6 microns, designed for instant dispersion and high suspensibility in water. Unlike traditional sulphur powders, Sulphin does not cause leaf scorching or leave stains on fruits and leaves, making it safe and easy to use for Indian farmers.

Sulphin offers a unique triple action: it works as a fungicide to control powdery mildew, as a miticide to suppress mite populations, and as a micronutrient to supply essential sulphur to crops. Sulphur is vital for protein synthesis, enzyme function, and chlorophyll formation in plants. As a contact fungicide, it disrupts fungal respiration and energy production, effectively stopping disease development. It is recommended for a wide range of crops including Grapes, Apple, Mango, Cumin, Cowpea, Guar, and Pea, specifically targeting powdery mildew. With its multi-site mode of action (IRAC Group M2), Sulphin is an excellent tool for resistance management and can be integrated into both conventional and organic farming programs.

Key Benefits

  • Triple action in one product: Controls fungal diseases (powdery mildew), suppresses mites, and provides sulphur nutrition to crops — reducing the need for separate sprays.
  • Safe on crops: Micronized 2–6 micron particles with instant dispersion prevent leaf scorching and leave no stains on fruits or foliage.
  • Dust-free and easy to handle: Water Dispersible Granule (WDG) formulation eliminates the mess and inhalation risk of old sulphur dust powders.
  • Instant dispersion in water: Granules dissolve quickly without lumps or pre-creaming, ensuring smooth spraying and no nozzle clogging.
  • Resistance management tool: Multi-site contact action makes it nearly impossible for fungi to develop resistance — ideal for tank-mixing with systemic fungicides.
  • Improves plant health: Corrects sulphur deficiency (yellowing leaves) and supports chlorophyll synthesis, protein formation, and overall crop vigour.
  • Superior rainfastness: Ultra-fine particles stick tightly to leaf surfaces, providing better retention compared to coarser sulphur dusts.

How It Works

Crystal Sulphin works through a multi-site contact mode of action, which means it attacks the fungus at multiple points simultaneously, making resistance development extremely difficult. When sprayed on the crop, the micronized sulphur particles settle on the leaf surface and penetrate fungal cells. Inside the cells, sulphur disrupts the mitochondria — the "power plants" of the fungus — cutting off the energy supply (ATP production) and killing the pathogen effectively.

In addition to its fungicidal action, Sulphin also works as a miticide through a fumigant effect. It releases sulphur vapours (S8 and SO2) that enter the respiratory systems of mites, effectively suffocating them and keeping their populations under control. As a contact fungicide, thorough coverage of both upper and lower leaf surfaces is essential for best results. Once on the leaf, a portion of the sulphur gradually oxidizes into sulphate (SO4), a form that plants can absorb as a secondary nutrient to correct deficiencies and support healthy growth.

Method of Application: Foliar spray

When to Use

Apply Sulphin preventively, before the disease spreads widely in the field. The best time to start spraying is at the first signs of powdery mildew infection or as a preventive measure during conditions favourable for disease development (moderate temperatures, high humidity, and cloudy weather). For grapes, apply from pre-flowering to fruit set stages. For apple and mango, apply during flowering to fruit set. For cumin, cowpea, guar, and pea, apply during the vegetative to flowering stages.

Critical timing note: Avoid spraying when temperatures exceed 30°C (86°F), as high heat can cause rapid sublimation of sulphur, leading to leaf burn (phytotoxicity). The best time for application is early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Being a contact fungicide, Sulphin requires thorough coverage of both upper and lower leaf surfaces for effective disease control.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Wear protective gear: Put on gloves, a mask, and goggles before handling the product.
  2. Measure the dose: Take 750–1000 g of Sulphin per acre, depending on the crop and disease severity.
  3. Fill tank halfway: Fill your spray tank with half the required amount of clean water.
  4. Add Sulphin: Slowly add the measured granules to the water while stirring continuously. The granules will disperse instantly — no pre-creaming or pre-mixing is needed.
  5. Top up water: Add the remaining water to reach the final volume of 300–400 litres per acre.
  6. Mix well: Stir the mixture thoroughly to ensure even suspension.
  7. Spray evenly: Apply as a foliar spray, covering both upper and lower surfaces of leaves for complete coverage.
  8. Clean equipment: Rinse the spray tank and equipment thoroughly with water after use.

Compatibility

Crystal Sulphin can usually be mixed with other fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers. It is an excellent tank-mix partner for systemic fungicides (such as Azoxystrobin or Tebuconazole) to prevent resistance development. However, there is one critical rule: NEVER mix Sulphin with Neem Oil or any horticultural oils. Maintain a gap of at least 14 to 30 days between a sulphur spray and an oil-based spray to avoid severe crop damage. Always perform a small-scale jar test before large-scale mixing to check for any adverse reactions.

Precautions & Safety

  • Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) — gloves, mask, and goggles — during handling and application.
  • Avoid inhalation of dust and contact with skin and eyes. Sulphin is a skin and eye irritant.
  • Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, food, feed, and drinking water.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Prevent spray drift to nearby water bodies, non-target crops, and grazing areas.
  • Dispose of empty containers as per local regulations — do not reuse for any purpose.
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product.

Side Effects & Phytotoxicity

  • Avoid spraying when temperatures exceed 30°C, as high heat can cause leaf burn (scorching) and fruit russeting.
  • Crops in the Cucurbit family (cucumber, watermelon, melon, pumpkin) are "sulphur shy" and sensitive — do not use Sulphin on these crops as it can cause severe burning and yield loss.
  • Never mix with Neem Oil or horticultural oils. Maintain a gap of 14–30 days between sulphur and oil sprays to prevent crop damage.
