Product Overview

Cyfi is a high-performance dual-action fungicide from Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL), specially formulated to tackle tough fungal diseases like Late Blight and Downy Mildew in high-value crops. It combines two powerful active ingredients — Cyazofamid 6.2% and Mancozeb 60.8% — in a Wettable Powder (WP) formulation. This unique combination provides both curative (kick-back) action against recent infections and long-lasting preventive protection against future attacks.

Cyfi is designed for farmers dealing with severe disease pressure or facing resistance issues with older fungicides like Metalaxyl. The product works on two different levels: Cyazofamid targets the energy production system inside the fungal cells, while Mancozeb creates a protective shield on the leaf surface. This dual mechanism makes it highly effective even against stubborn fungal strains. It is recommended for use on Grapes (Downy Mildew), Potato (Late Blight), and Tomato (Late Blight and Early Blight).

The product carries a Blue Triangle toxicity label (Caution) and is available in a 500g pack size. With excellent rainfastness and translaminar action, Cyfi ensures reliable protection even during monsoon conditions, helping farmers achieve healthier crops and better marketable yields.

Key Benefits

  • Instant disease control: Cyazofamid immediately stops fungal growth by cutting off the energy supply (ATP) inside the mitochondria, paralyzing spores on contact.
  • Dual-action protection: Combines a systemic inner cure (Cyazofamid) with a contact outer shield (Mancozeb) for complete crop safety from both sides.
  • Effective against resistant strains: Works on fungal populations that have stopped responding to older fungicides like Metalaxyl, thanks to its unique QiI mode of action.
  • Rainfast performance: Binds firmly to the waxy leaf surface and resists wash-off during heavy rains or high humidity, ensuring lasting protection.
  • Translaminar action: Penetrates leaf tissue from top to bottom, reaching hidden fungus that ordinary contact sprays miss.
  • Better crop quality and yield: Keeps foliage healthy and green, leading to higher biomass and better market-grade produce at harvest.

How It Works

Cyfi uses a synergistic two-pronged attack to control fungal diseases effectively. The first active ingredient, Cyazofamid, belongs to the Cyanoimidazole chemical group and targets the Qi site (Group 21) in the fungal mitochondria — the powerhouse of the cell. By blocking respiration at this specific site, it instantly stops the production of ATP (energy), causing the fungal spores and zoospores to starve and become paralyzed. This action stops the infection from spreading within minutes of application.

The second active ingredient, Mancozeb, belongs to the Dithiocarbamate group (Group M03) and works as a multi-site contact fungicide. It spreads evenly across the leaf surface and disrupts several essential enzymatic processes inside the fungal cell. This prevents new spores from germinating and infecting the plant tissue. Because Mancozeb attacks the fungus at multiple sites, it is very difficult for the disease to develop resistance against it.

Additionally, Cyazofamid has translaminar movement, meaning it can penetrate the leaf tissue and move from the upper surface to the lower surface. This allows it to reach and kill fungal growth that has already entered the leaf interior — something that purely contact fungicides cannot do. The combination of a targeted systemic killer (Cyazofamid) and a broad-spectrum contact shield (Mancozeb) ensures that Cyfi provides both curative action against recent infections and long-lasting preventive protection.

*For Grapes intended for export, PHI may be up to 60 days due to Mancozeb regulations.

PHI = Pre-Harvest Interval: Minimum number of days to wait between the last spray and harvesting.

When to Use

Apply Cyfi preventively before the disease starts, or immediately at the first sign of symptoms such as oil spots on leaves or blight lesions. Early application gives the best results. If disease pressure is high or weather conditions are favourable for disease development (cool, wet, or humid conditions), start spraying without delay.

Repeat applications every 7 to 10 days to maintain protection. If disease pressure is very severe or there is continuous rainfall, reduce the spray interval to 5-7 days. For best results, ensure complete coverage of all foliage — the Mancozeb component needs to coat the leaves evenly like a protective layer to be fully effective.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Prepare the spray solution: Since Cyfi is a Wettable Powder (WP), first mix the required quantity of powder in a small amount of water to make a smooth slurry (thick paste). This helps dissolve any lumps.
  2. Add to main tank: Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the slurry to the tank while stirring continuously. Then add the remaining water and mix well.
  3. Spray evenly: Apply the mixture uniformly on all parts of the crop, especially the undersides of leaves where fungal spores often hide. Use 200 litres of water per acre for thorough coverage.
  4. Timing of spray: Apply early in the morning or late in the evening when temperatures are cooler. Avoid spraying in direct sunlight or when rain is expected within 2-3 hours.
  5. Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly clean all spray equipment. Do not wash sprayers or dispose of leftover solution in ponds, rivers, or water bodies as the product is toxic to aquatic life.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal Protection: Always wear gloves, mask, and goggles while handling and spraying the product.
  • Hygiene: Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after handling the product. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during application.
  • Storage: Store the product in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
