Dominant is a fast-acting systemic insecticide from Insecticides India Limited (IIL) that provides effective control against a wide range of sucking pests. It contains Dinotefuran 20% in a Soluble Granule (SG) formulation, offering both contact and systemic action. This means Dominant works on the pest from the outside and from inside the plant, giving farmers reliable protection across cotton, rice, vegetables, and fruit crops.
Dinotefuran belongs to the neonicotinoid chemical group. Once sprayed, it is quickly absorbed into plant tissues and moves to parts that are hard to reach, including the underside of leaves. Pests like aphids, jassids, thrips, and whiteflies stop feeding soon after contact and start dying within hours. The translaminar action ensures that even if spray does not directly hit the pest, the chemical moves through the leaf to reach it. This dual action reduces the need for repeated sprays and helps farmers save time and labour.
Dominant is suitable for Indian farming conditions and works well with both manual knapsack sprayers and tractor-mounted equipment. Its SG formulation dissolves easily in water, making mixing simple and mess-free. With proper use, farmers can expect fast pest knockdown and longer-lasting crop protection.
Key Benefits
- Dual contact and systemic action kills pests on the surface and inside the plant
- Fast action — pests stop feeding and start dying within hours of application
- Translaminar movement protects both upper and lower leaf surfaces
- Long residual effect reduces the number of sprays needed per season
- Quick-mixing soluble granule formulation makes preparation easy and clean
- Effective against multiple sucking pests in one application
- Suitable for a wide range of crops including cotton, paddy, vegetables, and fruits
How It Works
Dominant contains Dinotefuran, an active ingredient from the neonicotinoid group. When sprayed on the crop, it acts in two ways. First, it works on contact — any pest that comes in direct contact with the spray solution is affected. Second, it is quickly absorbed into the plant through leaves and stems and moves systemically to all parts of the plant, including new growth and the underside of leaves. This systemic movement is possible because Dinotefuran is highly water-soluble and travels through the plant's vascular system.
Inside the pest, Dinotefuran targets the nervous system by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This causes continuous nerve stimulation, leading to paralysis and death within a few hours. Because of its translaminar action, the chemical moves from the sprayed upper leaf surface to the unsprayed lower surface, ensuring that hidden pests are also reached. This makes Dominant highly effective against sucking pests that often hide on the underside of leaves or inside plant folds.

When to Use
Apply Dominant when you first notice sucking pest infestation on your crop. Early application gives the best results because the pests are fewer and easier to control. For cotton, apply during the vegetative to flowering stage when aphids, jassids, whiteflies, and thrips are commonly active. For rice (paddy), apply during the tillering to panicle stage when leaf folder and stem borer infestation is likely. For vegetables and fruits, apply at the early vegetative stage or as soon as pest activity is seen.
Spray in the morning or evening hours when temperatures are lower and the spray solution will not evaporate quickly. Avoid spraying during peak sunlight hours or when rain is expected within a few hours, as this can reduce effectiveness.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
