HPM Hindustan M-45 is a trusted, broad-spectrum contact fungicide containing Mancozeb 75% WP (Wettable Powder). It is designed to protect a wide range of crops from fungal diseases through preventive action. Mancozeb, the active ingredient, belongs to the Dithiocarbamate chemical group and works by disrupting essential enzyme functions in fungal cells, stopping the disease before it can infect the plant. This fungicide forms a protective layer on the surface of leaves and stems, acting as a shield against fungal spores.
Hindustan M-45 is effective against many common fungal diseases including blights, rusts, blast, leaf spots, downy mildew, anthracnose, and fruit rots across crops like potato, tomato, wheat, paddy, maize, banana, grapes, apple, and guava. In addition to disease control, it supplies essential micronutrients like Manganese and Zinc, which support plant growth and improve crop vigour. Its multi-site mode of action makes it an excellent tool for resistance management, as fungi cannot easily develop resistance against it. The product is suitable for foliar spray, seed treatment, and nursery drenching, and is known for being cost-effective and environmentally safe with low persistence in soil.
Key Benefits
- Broad-spectrum protection: Controls a wide range of fungal diseases including blight, rust, blast, leaf spot, downy mildew, anthracnose, scab, and fruit rot across many crops.
- Multi-site action prevents resistance: Unlike single-site fungicides, Mancozeb attacks fungi at multiple points, making it very difficult for them to develop resistance.
- Provides micronutrients: Supplies Manganese and Zinc to crops, which helps improve photosynthesis, plant strength, and overall greenness.
- Versatile application methods: Can be used as a foliar spray, seed treatment, or nursery drenching, giving farmers flexible options.
- Cost-effective disease management: Offers reliable protection at an affordable price, making it a practical choice for routine preventive sprays.
- Environmentally safe: Decomposes easily in soil with low persistence and no bioaccumulation, making it safe for the environment when used as directed.
- Safe toxicity profile: Classified as Green/Blue Triangle (Slightly Toxic), making it safer for handlers when proper precautions are followed.
How It Works
Hindustan M-45 works as a contact protectant fungicide. When sprayed on the crop, it forms a thin, uniform protective film on the surface of leaves, stems, and fruits. This film acts as a chemical barrier. When a fungal spore lands on the treated surface and attempts to germinate, it absorbs the fungicide. Once inside the spore, Mancozeb reacts with and inactivates sulfhydryl groups present in amino acids and enzymes of the fungal cell. This disrupts critical biological processes including lipid metabolism, cellular respiration, and ATP (energy) production. Without energy, the fungal spore cannot grow or infect the plant, and it dies quickly.
Because Mancozeb acts at multiple sites within the fungal cell (multi-site mode of action), it is classified under IRAC MoA Code M03. This multi-site activity is a key advantage — fungi cannot easily adapt or develop resistance to it, unlike systemic fungicides that target a single enzyme. Since it is a contact fungicide and does not enter the plant tissue, thorough and uniform spray coverage of all plant parts — especially the undersides of leaves — is essential for effective disease control.

When to Use
Hindustan M-45 works best as a preventive (prophylactic) spray. Apply it before disease symptoms appear or as soon as weather conditions become favourable for fungal infections — such as during cloudy, humid, or rainy periods. For most crops, the first spray should be done at 20-35 days after sowing (DAS) depending on the crop and local disease pressure. For apple, apply at pre-bloom stage. For grapes, apply at flowering stage. Since this is a contact fungicide, it is important to reapply after heavy rainfall as the protective layer may wash off. For best results during monsoon, consider adding a sticker or spreader to improve rainfastness.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Wear protective gear: Put on gloves, a mask, and safety goggles before handling the product.
- Prepare the slurry: Since this is a Wettable Powder (WP), first mix the required amount of powder in a small amount of water to make a smooth slurry or paste.
- Mix in the tank: Add the slurry to the spray tank filled with the required amount of clean water. Stir the mixture continuously to keep it well suspended.
- Keep agitated: While spraying, keep the tank water agitated (stirred) to prevent the powder from settling at the bottom.
- Spray evenly: Use a high-volume sprayer with hollow cone nozzles. Ensure thorough coverage of both upper and lower surfaces of leaves.
- Apply at right time: Spray during early morning or late evening. Avoid spraying during peak sun hours or when rain is expected immediately.
- Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly wash all spray equipment with clean water.
Compatibility
Hindustan M-45 is compatible with most common insecticides and fungicides (such as Carbendazim and Imidacloprid). However, do not mix with alkaline products like Bordeaux mixture or Lime Sulphur. Always perform a small jar test before mixing with any new product to check for physical compatibility. When tank-mixing, follow the correct mixing order: wettable powders first, then emulsifiable concentrates, then adjuvants.
Precautions & Safety
- Always wear protective gear — gloves, mask, and goggles — while mixing and spraying.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product.
- Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water.
- Keep out of reach of children, pets, and livestock.
- Do not spray near fish ponds or water bodies.
- Avoid inhalation of dust while mixing the powder.
- In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
