Product Overview
HPM Aashirwad-G is a broad-spectrum granular insecticide containing Fipronil 0.3% GR, manufactured by HPM Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. It belongs to the Phenylpyrazole chemical group and works through both contact and stomach action. The product is specially designed for soil application in Rice (Paddy), Sugarcane, and Wheat crops, providing effective control of soil-borne and stem-boring pests that are difficult to reach with foliar sprays.
Aashirwad-G comes in easy-to-apply granule form, which means no pumps or sprayers are needed. The granules are broadcast directly onto the field or mixed with sand or fertilizer for even distribution. Once applied, the active ingredient Fipronil is absorbed by plant roots and moves upward through the plant's vascular system (xylem), reaching stems and leaves. This systemic action ensures that even pests hiding deep inside plant stems—like stem borers—are effectively controlled.
In addition to pest control, Aashirwad-G is known to have a phytotonic or plant growth enhancement effect, which supports stronger root development and healthier crop growth. The product is classified as moderately hazardous (WHO Class II) and carries IRAC Mode of Action Code Group 2B (GABA-gated chloride channel blockers). It is registered under CIR-38091/(219)/2002-Fipronil(GR)-29 and is available in pack sizes of 1 kg and 5 kg.
Key Benefits
- Long-lasting residual control: One application provides protection for 30 to 40 days, reducing the need for frequent reapplication and saving labour costs.
- Effective against hidden pests: Controls stem borers, termites, and root borers that live inside plant stems or underground where sprays cannot reach.
- Systemic root action: Granules dissolve in soil moisture, are absorbed by roots, and travel upward through the plant to kill internal feeding pests from the inside out.
- Controls resistant pests: Effective against insects that have developed resistance to pyrethroid, organophosphorus, cyclodiene, and carbamate insecticides.
- Easy application: No spray equipment needed—simply broadcast granules by hand in standing water or mix with sand/fertilizer for dry crops.
- Phytotonic greening effect: Promotes root development and enhances crop vigour, resulting in visibly greener and healthier plants with better yield potential.
- Dual mode of action: Works through both contact (on direct touch) and stomach action (when pests ingest treated plant material), ensuring thorough pest elimination.
How It Works
Aashirwad-G contains Fipronil, an active ingredient from the Phenylpyrazole chemical group. Fipronil works by targeting the central nervous system of insects. It binds to GABA-gated chloride channels in the insect's nerve cells, blocking the normal flow of chloride ions. This disruption causes the insect's nervous system to become hyperexcited, leading to uncontrolled nerve firing, paralysis, and eventually death.
The product has a dual mode of action. First, it works through contact action—when an insect comes into direct contact with treated soil or granules, the chemical enters its body and starts working immediately. Second, it works through stomach action—when pests like stem borers or termites feed on treated plant tissue (roots, stems, or leaves), they ingest the chemical, which then acts on their nervous system.
What makes Aashirwad-G particularly effective is its systemic action. When the granules are applied to the soil and dissolve in moisture, plant roots absorb the Fipronil. The chemical then travels upward through the xylem (the plant's water-conducting tubes) to the stem and leaves. This means that even pests feeding deep inside the plant stem—like yellow stem borer larvae in rice—are exposed to the insecticide and eliminated. This systemic movement also provides long-lasting protection as the chemical remains active inside the plant tissues for an extended period.

Recommended Dosage & Application
The dosage of Aashirwad-G varies by crop and pest pressure. Always follow the recommended dose per acre for accurate results. Do not under-dose, as this can lead to pest resistance.
| Crop | Dose (kg per Acre) | Application Method | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rice (Paddy) | 6.67 – 10 kg | Broadcast in standing water (2-3 cm depth) | 32 days |
| Sugarcane | 10 – 13.3 kg | Apply in furrows at planting or earthing up | 270 days |
| Wheat | 8 – 10 kg | Mix with sand or urea and broadcast before irrigation | 91 days |
PHI = Pre-Harvest Interval: The minimum number of days to wait between the last application and harvesting to ensure food safety.
When to Use
For Rice (Paddy): Apply Aashirwad-G 15 to 30 days after transplanting, during the early tillering stage. This timing provides maximum protection against Yellow Stem Borer and other early-season pests. Ensure there is 2-3 cm of standing water in the field at the time of application. Keep the water impounded for 3 to 5 days after application so the granules dissolve completely and the active ingredient is absorbed by the roots.
For Sugarcane: Apply at the time of planting in furrows, or during earthing-up operations. This targets Early Shoot Borer and Root Borer during their most vulnerable stages.
For Wheat: Apply before irrigation, mixing the granules with sand or dry fertilizer for even distribution. This ensures the chemical reaches the root zone where termites are active.
Apply at the first sign of pest infestation or as a preventive measure during periods of high pest pressure. Early application gives the best results.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Calculate the right dose: Measure the required quantity of Aashirwad-G granules based on your crop and field size. Refer to the dosage table above.
- For Paddy (Rice): Ensure the field has 2-3 cm of standing water. Broadcast the granules evenly by hand directly into the water. Keep water impounded for 3-5 days after application.
- For Wheat and dry crops: Mix the measured granules with dry sand or urea fertilizer (about 4-5 times the quantity of granules) to ensure even distribution. Broadcast the mixture evenly across the field, then irrigate immediately.
- For Sugarcane: Apply granules directly into the furrows at the time of planting, or during earthing-up. Cover with soil after application.
- Wear protective gear: Use gloves, a mask, and goggles while handling the product. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during application.
- Post-application: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Store any unused product in its original container in a cool, dry place away from children and food items.
