HPM Batista is a broad-spectrum systemic fungicide containing Carbendazim 46.27% SC (Suspension Concentrate). It provides both protective and curative action against fungal diseases, making it a reliable choice for grape and mango growers. The product is absorbed through roots and green tissues and moves upward (acropetally) within the plant, offering internal protection that reaches all plant parts.
Batista is specially effective against powdery mildew in grapes and mangoes, one of the most common and damaging fungal diseases in these crops. Its SC formulation ensures stable water dispersion, uniform coverage on foliage, and reduced surface runoff. The product also works well in adverse climatic conditions, giving farmers dependable results even when weather is challenging. Additionally, Batista can be used as a seedling dip treatment to protect young plants from root diseases and soil-borne infections before transplanting.
Manufactured by HPM Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd., a trusted Indian agri-input company with decades of experience, Batista comes with a shelf life of two years under normal storage conditions. It is important to note that this product is not compatible with alkaline materials, so care must be taken when mixing or using it alongside other inputs.
Key Benefits
- Broad-spectrum systemic action – Controls a wide range of fungal diseases with both preventive and curative effects from within the plant.
- Dual absorption – Absorbed through both roots and foliage, ensuring thorough plant protection.
- Effective against powdery mildew – Provides reliable control of powdery mildew in grapes and mangoes, a major yield-limiting disease.
- SC formulation advantage – Suspension Concentrate gives stable water dispersion, even spray coverage, and less runoff compared to older formulations.
- Seedling dip option – Can be used as a root dip before transplanting to prevent soil-borne and root fungal infections in young plants.
- Works in tough conditions – Performs well even under adverse climatic conditions, giving farmers consistent results.
- Two-year shelf life – Long storage life under normal conditions, reducing worry about product expiry.
How It Works
Carbendazim, the active ingredient in Batista, is a systemic fungicide that works by interfering with fungal cell division. It targets beta-tubulin synthesis, a critical process for fungal growth. By blocking this process, the fungicide stops the development of germ tubes, appressoria (infection structures), and mycelial growth. This means the fungus cannot spread or establish itself in the plant tissue.
Once applied, Carbendazim is absorbed through the roots and green tissues of the plant. It then moves upward (acropetally) through the plant's vascular system, reaching leaves, stems, and other parts. This systemic movement ensures that even parts of the plant not directly sprayed receive protection. The product offers both protective action (preventing new infections) and curative action (stopping existing infections from spreading). Because it works from inside the plant, it is not easily washed off by rain or irrigation, providing longer-lasting protection compared to contact fungicides.

| Mangoes | Powdery mildew | 100 ml per 100 L of water | Foliar spray |
Seedling Dip: For controlling root diseases and soil infections, immerse roots of seedlings in the suspension for 10–30 minutes shortly before transplanting.
When to Use
Apply Batista as a foliar spray when the first signs of powdery mildew are noticed on grapes or mangoes. Early application gives the best results, as the fungicide works both to prevent new infections and stop existing ones from spreading. For grapes, pay close attention during flowering and fruit development stages when powdery mildew is most active. For mangoes, apply during the flowering and early fruit set period when humid conditions favour disease development.
For seedling dip treatment, use Batista just before transplanting seedlings into the main field. This helps protect young plants from soil-borne fungal infections during their most vulnerable stage. The 10–30 minute dip ensures adequate absorption of the fungicide into the root system.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare the spray solution: Measure the required quantity of Batista (100 ml per 100 L of water). Add the measured amount to clean water and stir well to form a uniform suspension.
- Mixing: Ensure the suspension is thoroughly mixed before pouring into the spray tank. Keep the mixture agitated during spraying to maintain uniform dispersion.
- Foliar application: Spray evenly on the crop foliage, ensuring good coverage of all plant parts, especially the underside of leaves where powdery mildew often starts.
- Seedling dip method: Prepare the suspension in a container. Dip the roots of seedlings for 10–30 minutes just before transplanting. Remove and transplant immediately.
- Clean equipment: After use, thoroughly clean all spray equipment with water. Do not leave leftover solution in the tank.
Compatibility
Batista (Carbendazim 46.27% SC) is not compatible with alkaline materials. Avoid mixing with alkaline substances or products that create alkaline conditions in the spray solution. If tank mixing with other products is needed, always conduct a small jar test first to check for any signs of incompatibility such as precipitation, gel formation, or separation.
