How It Works

HPM Capture contains Profenophos 50% EC, an organophosphorus insecticide that works by inhibiting cholinesterase, an enzyme essential for proper nerve transmission in insects. When pests come into contact with or ingest the spray, their nervous system is disrupted, leading to paralysis and death.

Capture acts through both contact and stomach action, meaning it kills pests that touch the sprayed surface as well as those that feed on treated plant parts. It also exhibits a translaminar effect, allowing it to penetrate leaf tissue and reach pests hiding on the underside of leaves or within plant structures. Additionally, Capture has demonstrated strong larvicidal activity (killing young larvae) and good ovicidal activity (targeting pest eggs), which helps reduce pest populations before they can cause significant damage. For best results, application should target third instar larvae, the stage at which the product is most effective.

For bollworms, the ideal timing is when larvae are in the third instar stage, as the product shows maximum efficacy at this growth stage. For sucking pests like jassids, aphids, thrips, and whiteflies, apply as soon as pest activity is noticed on the crop. Early application helps prevent pest populations from building up and causing significant yield loss. Avoid spraying during windy conditions or when rain is expected, as this can reduce spray coverage and effectiveness. Apply during cooler parts of the day (morning or late afternoon) for best results.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

1. Check pest stage: Inspect the crop and confirm pest presence. For bollworms, target third instar larvae for best results.
2. Measure the correct dosage: Use 600–800 ml per acre for bollworms, or 400 ml per acre for sucking pests.
3. Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required water (200–400 litres per acre). Add the measured quantity of Capture and mix well. Add remaining water and stir thoroughly.
4. Spray evenly: Apply as a foliar spray, ensuring uniform coverage on both upper and lower leaf surfaces where pests may hide.
5. Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly rinse all application equipment with clean water.
6. Observe waiting period: Do not harvest cotton for at least 15 days after the last application.
