HPM Devsena is a broad-spectrum systemic insecticide containing Thiamethoxam 75% SG (Soluble Granule) formulation. It is designed to provide fast and effective control of both sucking and chewing pests in major Indian crops. The product works through systemic and contact action, meaning it moves inside the plant to protect all parts including new growth, while also acting on direct contact with pests.
HPM Devsena is suitable for use on Groundnut, Sugarcane, Rice, and Cotton crops. It targets a wide range of pests including termites, hoppers, jassids, aphids, thrips, and borers. The product can be applied as a foliar spray or through soil application depending on the crop and pest situation. With its low chemical profile, it has negligible effects on non-target organisms when used as directed, making it a safer choice for integrated pest management.
Thiamethoxam, the active ingredient, belongs to the neonicotinoid group of insecticides. It works by disrupting the central nervous system of insects, causing rapid paralysis and eventual death. The systemic nature of this insecticide ensures complete crop coverage and long-lasting protection, helping farmers achieve healthier crops and better yields.
Key Benefits
- Broad-spectrum pest control – Effectively controls both sucking pests (aphids, jassids, hoppers, thrips) and chewing pests (termites, borers) in a single application.
- Systemic action for complete coverage – The insecticide is absorbed by the plant and moves to all parts, including new growth and hidden areas, ensuring no pest escapes.
- Fast-acting protection – Thiamethoxam quickly disrupts the pest's nervous system, causing rapid paralysis and stopping crop damage within hours of application.
- Long-lasting efficacy – Provides extended protection due to systemic movement within the plant, reducing the need for frequent sprays.
- Safe on beneficial insects – When used as directed, has negligible impact on non-target organisms and beneficial insects, supporting natural pest control.
- Improves crop yield and quality – By protecting crops from pest damage from the early stages, plants grow healthier and produce better yields.
- Flexible application options – Can be used as foliar spray or soil application, giving farmers flexibility based on crop and pest conditions.
How It Works
HPM Devsena contains Thiamethoxam, which belongs to the neonicotinoid class of insecticides. When applied to the plant, it is rapidly absorbed through the leaves (foliar application) or roots (soil application) and moves systemically throughout the plant tissues via the xylem. This systemic movement ensures that the insecticide reaches all parts of the plant, including new shoots, leaves, and stems that are not directly sprayed.
Once inside the pest's body, Thiamethoxam acts as an agonist at the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the insect's central nervous system. This means it mimics the natural neurotransmitter acetylcholine and overstimulates the nerve cells. The result is uncontrolled nerve firing, leading to rapid paralysis, loss of coordination, and eventual death of the pest. The action is fast — affected pests stop feeding within minutes and die within hours.
Because of its systemic nature, Thiamethoxam provides protection even against pests that hide in plant crevices, leaf undersides, or inside stems where contact sprays may not reach. The product also has contact activity, meaning it kills pests that come into direct contact with the spray droplets. This dual mode of action — systemic plus contact — makes HPM Devsena highly effective for both sucking pests (which feed on plant sap) and chewing pests (which feed on plant tissue).

Recommended Dosage & Application
The dosage and application method vary by crop and target pest. Follow the table below for crop-specific recommendations:
| Crop | Target Pests | Dosage per Acre | Dilution / Application Method | Waiting Period (PHI) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Groundnut | Termites, Hoppers, Aphids | 50 gm | Mix in 200–400 litres of water per acre and apply as soil drenching or foliar spray | 57 days |
| Sugarcane | Termites, Early Shoot Borer | 64 gm | Mix in 200–400 litres of water per acre and apply at base of plant for root uptake | 230 days |
| Rice | Green Leaf Hopper, Brown Plant Hopper | 60 gm | Dissolve in 500 ml water, mix with 20 kg sand per hectare (8 kg/acre) and broadcast uniformly | 60 days |
| Cotton | Jassids, Thrips, Aphids | 50 gm | Mix in 200–400 litres of water per acre and apply as foliar spray | 109 days |
General Foliar Application: For foliar spray, use 50 to 60 gm per acre mixed with sufficient water for uniform coverage. Ensure proper agitation during mixing.
Soil Application: For soil drenching, apply at the base of the plant for optimum root uptake, especially in post-emergence applications.
When to Use
Apply HPM Devsena at the early stage of pest infestation for best results. Early intervention prevents pest populations from building up and causing significant crop damage. For soil-applied treatments, ensure adequate soil moisture at the time of application for better root uptake and systemic movement. The product is most effective when applied during active pest feeding periods. Monitor crops regularly and apply as soon as pest presence is detected above threshold levels. Avoid application during heavy rainfall or when rain is expected within a few hours, as this may wash off the product before it is absorbed by the plant.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Read the label – Carefully read all instructions and safety information on the product label before use.
- Wear protective gear – Put on hand gloves, a mask, and protective clothing before handling the product.
- Measure the required quantity – Use the recommended dosage from the dosage table based on your crop and target pest.
- Prepare the solution – For foliar spray: Mix the measured quantity of Devsena in a small amount of water first to make a paste/solution. Then add the remaining water as per the recommended dilution and stir thoroughly.
- For Rice (sand mix method): Dissolve 60 gm of product in 500 ml of water. Mix this solution with 20 kg of sand per hectare (8 kg per acre) and broadcast uniformly over the field.
- Apply uniformly – Spray the solution evenly over the crop canopy or apply at the base of plants for soil drenching. Ensure complete coverage of target areas.
- Clean equipment – After application, thoroughly clean all spraying equipment. Do not dispose of leftover solution in water bodies.
- Post-application care – Wash hands and exposed skin with soap and water after handling. Store remaining product in a cool, dry place away from children and livestock.
