HPM Ganno is a powerful dual-action insecticide formulated as a Water Dispersible Granule (WG) containing Fipronil 40% and Imidacloprid 40%. This unique pre-mix combination is designed to provide comprehensive control of white grubs in sugarcane, along with effective management of other sucking and soil-dwelling pests. The product combines two proven active ingredients with different modes of action, making it a reliable solution for farmers dealing with stubborn pest problems.
Fipronil works through contact and ingestion, disrupting the insect's central nervous system by blocking GABA-gated chloride channels. Imidacloprid acts systemically, being absorbed by the plant and interfering with nerve signal transmission in pests that feed on treated crops. Together, these two active ingredients provide both immediate knockdown and long-lasting residual protection. The WG formulation dissolves easily in water without dust, ensuring uniform mixing and even application across the field.
HPM Ganno is primarily recommended for controlling white grubs (Holotrichia consanguinea) in sugarcane. It also shows effectiveness against a range of sucking pests including whitefly, jassids, aphids, and thrips in crops like cotton, groundnut, and rice. The product offers elongated persistence in the soil, providing extended protection through critical crop growth stages. Additionally, Ganno has shown a positive effect on plant growth, contributing to greener foliage, stronger root development, and better overall yield. It is available in pack sizes of 40 gm, 100 gm, and 250 gm to suit different farm sizes and requirements.
Key Benefits
- Dual-action pest control: Combines contact and systemic action to attack pests from both outside and inside, ensuring thorough elimination.
- Effective against white grubs: Specially formulated to control white grubs in sugarcane, a pest that is difficult to manage with single-chemical products.
- Long-lasting residual protection: Stays active in the soil for extended periods, protecting crops through critical growth stages with a single application.
- Resistance management: Two different modes of action (IRAC Group 2B and 4A) make it difficult for pests to develop resistance.
- Phytotonic growth effect: Promotes healthier plant growth with greener leaves and stronger root systems, leading to better yield potential.
- Easy-to-use WG formulation: Water dispersible granules dissolve rapidly without dust or solvents, ensuring even coverage and operator safety.
- Multi-crop versatility: Effective on sugarcane, groundnut, cotton, and rice against a range of soil and foliar pests.
How It Works
HPM Ganno uses a unique two-pronged attack on the insect nervous system, making it highly effective against target pests. Fipronil, belonging to the phenylpyrazole chemical group, works by blocking GABA-gated chloride channels and glutamate-gated chloride (GluCl) channels in the insect's central nervous system. This action removes the natural "brakes" on the nervous system, causing uncontrolled hyperexcitation, convulsions, paralysis, and eventually death. Fipronil is toxic to insects both through contact (when they touch treated surfaces) and ingestion (when they feed on treated plant parts).
Imidacloprid, belonging to the neonicotinoid chemical group, works through a different mechanism. It mimics the natural neurotransmitter acetylcholine and binds permanently to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the insect's nervous system. This causes continuous nerve firing, like a stuck "accelerator," leading to tremors, paralysis, and death. Imidacloprid is systemic in nature, meaning it is absorbed by the plant and moves through its tissues. This ensures that even pests feeding on untreated parts of the plant are affected. It also has translaminar activity, moving through the leaf from the upper to the lower surface.
Because these two active ingredients attack different sites in the insect nervous system, pests that may be resistant to one chemical are still effectively controlled by the other. The combination also ensures that pests die whether they come into contact with the product in the soil or feed on treated roots, stems, or leaves. Insects stop feeding almost immediately after exposure, reducing crop damage rapidly.

Dosage per litre of water (for small sprayers):
- For sugarcane: Dissolve approximately 0.4–0.5 gm per litre of water
- For knapsack sprayer (15 litres): Mix approximately 6–8 gm per tank
- For drip/drench application in sugarcane: Apply 100 gm per acre evenly through drip irrigation or drenching
When to Use
For sugarcane, HPM Ganno should be applied at the time of planting or during the early vegetative stage. This timing is critical because the product has a long pre-harvest interval (PHI) of 296 days for sugarcane. Applying early ensures effective white grub control while maintaining safety at harvest time. White grubs are soil-dwelling pests that attack the root system, so early application helps protect the crop during its most vulnerable stages.
For groundnut, apply during early infestation when white grubs or sucking pests first appear. For cotton and rice, apply when pest populations reach economic threshold levels during the vegetative stage. The product is most effective when applied at the first signs of pest activity, before populations become severe. For soil-dwelling pests like white grubs, soil drenching with high water volume (up to 500 litres per acre) ensures the product reaches the root zone where these pests feed. Avoid applying during heavy rainfall or when rain is expected within 24 hours, as this may reduce effectiveness.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Wear protective gear: Put on gloves, mask, and goggles before handling the product.
- Calculate the dose: Measure the required quantity based on your crop and target pest using the dosage table above.
- Prepare the solution: Take a small amount of water in a separate container. Add the measured Ganno granules and stir well to make a uniform slurry.
- Mix in spray tank: Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the slurry and mix thoroughly. Then add the remaining water and stir again.
- For knapsack sprayer: Mix 6–8 gm of Ganno in 15 litres of water for standard application.
