Hifit Herbicide (Pretilachlor 50% EC) is a broad-spectrum, selective pre-emergence to early post-emergence rice herbicide. Specially designed for transplanted paddy fields, it effectively controls annual grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds. Its unique mode of action stops weed growth by inhibiting cell division and fatty acid synthesis in germinating weeds.
Unlike some herbicides that stress crops, Hifit promotes a visible greening effect, ensuring rice plants remain healthy without stunting or yellowing. By reducing early weed competition, it allows rice crops to establish stronger root systems and achieve higher yields.
Key Benefits
- Broad-spectrum control of annual grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds in a single application
- Effective from pre-emergence to early post-emergence stage, giving flexible application window
- Selective action targets weeds without harming rice plants
- Promotes a visible greening effect on the crop with no stunting or yellowing
- Long-lasting residual action prevents weed regrowth for several weeks
- Reduces dependency on manual weeding, saving labour cost and effort
- Helps rice seedlings establish stronger root systems by reducing early weed competition
How It Works
HPM Hifit contains Pretilachlor, a selective systemic herbicide belonging to the chloroacetamide chemical group. When applied to the field, it is absorbed by the germinating weeds through the hypocotyls, mesocotyls, coleoptiles, and to a lesser extent, the roots. Once inside the weed tissues, Pretilachlor works by inhibiting cell division and blocking the synthesis of very long-chain fatty acids, which are essential for weed growth and development. This action effectively stops weed germination and early growth before they can compete with the rice crop. Because the herbicide acts on processes specific to germinating weeds, it remains safe for the established rice plants. The residual activity in the soil continues to prevent new weed emergence for several weeks, giving the rice crop a strong, weed-free start during its critical early growth stages.

Application Method: Apply uniformly over the field using a knapsack sprayer or power sprayer fitted with a flat fan nozzle.
When to Use
Apply HPM Hifit within 3 to 5 days after transplanting rice seedlings for the best results. This timing targets weeds at their most vulnerable stage — just as they begin to germinate or emerge. The field should have a standing water level of 2–3 cm at the time of application and for a few days after spraying to help the herbicide spread evenly and reach the weed seeds in the soil. For early post-emergence applications, apply when weeds are still small and actively growing. Avoid spraying on stressed crops or during windy conditions to ensure uniform coverage and prevent drift.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare the field: Ensure the rice field is levelled and has a standing water level of 2–3 cm.
- Measure the dose: Take 400–500 ml of HPM Hifit per acre. Use the higher dose (500 ml) for fields with heavy weed pressure or for early post-emergence application.
- Mix with water: Fill the spray tank with half the required water (100–150 litres per acre). Add the measured herbicide and mix well. Then add the remaining water and stir again.
- Spray uniformly: Use a knapsack or power sprayer with a flat fan nozzle. Apply evenly across the entire field.
- Maintain water level: Keep 2–3 cm of standing water in the field for at least 3–4 days after spraying. Do not drain or let the field dry during this period.
- Post-application care: Avoid entering the field for 24 hours after spraying. Follow normal irrigation and crop management practices after the water-holding period.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear protective gloves, goggles, and a mask while handling and spraying the herbicide.
- Avoid direct contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water if accidental contact occurs.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or spraying the product.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not spray near ponds, rivers, or water bodies — the product is harmful to aquatic organisms.
- Dispose of empty containers safely. Do not reuse them for any purpose.
- In case of accidental ingestion, consult a doctor immediately. No specific antidote is available; treat symptomatically.
