HPM Hinthora is a broad-spectrum insecticide designed to protect crops from damaging lepidopteran pests. It contains two powerful active ingredients — Novaluron 5.25% and Indoxacarb 4.5% w/w — in a Suspension Concentrate (SC) formulation. This combination gives farmers a twin-action solution that works through both contact and stomach poisoning.
Hinthora is primarily used to control major caterpillars like Helicoverpa armigera (fruit borer) and Spodoptera litura (leaf eating caterpillar) in tomato crops. It is also effective against bollworms and leaf worms in cotton, and various lepidopteran caterpillars in vegetables. The product offers quick knockdown, long-lasting protection, and an added phytotonic effect that supports healthier crop growth.
Available in pack sizes of 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, and 1 litre, Hinthora suits both small and large-scale farming needs. Its dual mode of action makes it especially valuable for farmers facing pest resistance issues with conventional sprays.
Key Benefits
- Immediate stop-feeding action — Larvae stop eating the crop soon after contact, preventing further fruit and foliage damage.
- Twin mode of action — Combines nervous system disruption with growth inhibition, ensuring effective control even against resistant pest populations.
- Long-lasting protection — The SC formulation sticks well to leaves and provides extended control, reducing the need for frequent sprays.
- Phytotonic effect — Beyond pest control, Hinthora reduces crop stress and promotes greener leaves and better plant vigour.
- Good rain fastness — Absorbs quickly into the plant system, making it resistant to wash-off during light rains.
- Reduces future pest population — Affects egg viability and larval development, helping break the pest life cycle.
How It Works
Hinthora works through a synergistic two-pronged attack on the insect pest. The first active ingredient, Indoxacarb, belongs to the Oxadiazine chemical group (IRAC Group 22A). It blocks sodium channels in the insect's nervous system. This causes immediate paralysis and a rapid "stop-feeding" effect — the larvae stop chewing on the crop within hours of contact or ingestion.
The second active ingredient, Novaluron, belongs to the Benzoylurea group (IRAC Group 15), which is an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR). It inhibits chitin synthesis — chitin is the hard outer layer or "skin" of insects. Without chitin formation, larvae cannot successfully moult (shed their skin) and grow into the next stage. They die during the moulting process. Novaluron also has an ovicidal effect, meaning it can reduce the hatching rate of eggs laid by adult pests.
Together, these two modes of action ensure that Hinthora works on multiple life stages of the pest — eggs, larvae, and adults — providing both immediate knockdown and long-term population control. The product acts through both contact (when spray touches the pest) and stomach action (when the pest feeds on treated plant parts).

When to Use
Apply Hinthora at the first sign of pest infestation — when eggs or young larvae are spotted on the crop. Early application gives the best results as the product works effectively on early larval stages. For tomato, the application window is from the vegetative stage through the fruiting stage, when Helicoverpa and Spodoptera are most active. For cotton, apply when bollworms or leaf worms are first observed. Regular scouting of the field helps identify pest presence early. Avoid spraying during heavy rain or strong wind to ensure proper coverage and effectiveness.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Step 1: Wear protective gloves, mask, and goggles before handling the product.
- Step 2: Shake the Hinthora bottle well before use.
- Step 3: Fill the spray tank halfway with clean water.
- Step 4: Add the recommended dose of Hinthora to the tank. For best mixing, first mix the required dose in a small quantity of water, then add to the main tank.
- Step 5: Stir thoroughly and add remaining water to reach the required volume (150–200 litres per acre).
- Step 6: Spray uniformly, ensuring thorough coverage of the crop foliage — both upper and lower leaf surfaces — as the product works through contact and stomach action.
- Step 7: Avoid spraying during high wind, rain, or extreme heat.
- Step 8: Wash hands and equipment thoroughly after use.
Precautions & Safety
- Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) — gloves, mask, and goggles — during mixing and spraying.
- Avoid skin contact, inhalation, and eye exposure. In case of accidental contact, wash immediately with plenty of water.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or spraying the product.
- Keep the product away from children, pets, and livestock.
- Store in the original container, tightly sealed, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and food items.
- Do not contaminate ponds, rivers, or drinking water sources with the product or its container.
- In case of accidental ingestion or exposure, seek immediate medical attention. No specific antidote is available — treat symptomatically.
PHI / REI & Storage
Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): Check the product label for the specific PHI for your crop. A PHI of 10 days is recommended for tomato based on available usage guidance.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use. Do not store near food, feed, or drinking water.
