HPM Hitatox 10G is a non-systemic granular insecticide containing Chlorpyrifos 10% GR, designed for effective pest management in rice, sugarcane, and groundnut crops. It belongs to the organophosphate chemical group and works through contact, stomach, and respiratory (vapor) action to control a wide range of biting, chewing, and soil-dwelling pests. The granular formulation makes it easy to apply without pumps or sprayers—simply broadcast the granules in the field or mix with sand or fertilizer for even distribution.
Hitatox 10G is particularly effective against stem borers, leaf folders, gall midges, termites, and white grubs. Its triple-action mode of control ensures that even pests hiding inside plant stems or underground are exposed to the chemical through fumigant vapors that rise from the granules. The product provides long-lasting residual protection in the soil, making it a reliable choice for farmers looking for a broadcast-and-forget solution during critical crop growth stages.
This product carries a Yellow Triangle toxicity label (highly toxic) and requires careful handling with proper personal protective equipment. It is restricted for use in Kerala State. Always follow label instructions and safety guidelines during application.
Key Benefits
- Triple-action control: Kills pests through contact (touch), stomach (ingestion), and respiratory (vapor/fumes) action for complete field protection.
- Controls hidden pests: The fumigant vapor action penetrates inside plant stems and folded leaves to kill stem borers and leaf folders that sprays cannot reach.
- Long-lasting residual effect: The granular formula releases slowly in the soil, providing extended protection for 3-4 weeks after application.
- Easy application: No sprayers or pumps needed—simply broadcast granules by hand or mix with sand/fertilizer for uniform coverage.
- Effective against soil pests: Excellent for controlling subterranean enemies like termites, white grubs, and root grubs that attack roots in sugarcane and groundnut.
- Cost-effective solution: Low dosage requirement with high efficacy delivers consistent results and good value for money.
- Broad-spectrum activity: Effective against coleopteran, dipteran, homopteran, and lepidopteran pest species in soil and on foliage.
How It Works
HPM Hitatox 10G works by attacking the nervous system of the insect. The active ingredient Chlorpyrifos acts as an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. When a pest comes into contact with the granules in soil or water, or inhales the vapors rising from the treated field, the chemical blocks the AChE enzyme. This enzyme is responsible for relaxing muscles after nerve signals. When it is blocked, the pest's nervous system continues firing without stopping, leading to continuous muscle contraction, tremors, paralysis, and eventually death.
What makes Hitatox 10G especially effective is its multi-pathway action. First, pests that directly touch the granules are killed through contact action. Second, pests that feed on treated plant parts ingest the chemical and die through stomach action. Third—and most importantly—the granules release fumigant vapors that rise from the soil or water surface. These vapors penetrate into hidden spaces like inside rice stems (where stem borers hide) and folded leaves (where leaf folders shelter), killing pests that are otherwise difficult to reach with liquid sprays. This triple-action mechanism ensures thorough pest control even in challenging field conditions.

When to Use
For rice crops, apply Hitatox 10G at 15-30 days after transplanting (DAT) for best results against stem borer. This timing targets the early to mid-stage of pest infestation when dead hearts or white ears first appear. For sugarcane, apply during planting or earthing up to protect against termites and early shoot borer. For groundnut, apply at sowing or when white grub activity is noticed.
The product works best when there is adequate moisture in the field. For paddy, maintain 2-3 cm of standing water at the time of application and hold the water for 2-3 days after application. This allows the granules to release the chemical effectively and the vapors to spread across the field. For dryland crops like sugarcane and groundnut, ensure the soil is moist at the time of application.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Check field condition: For paddy, ensure the field has 2-3 cm of standing water. For sugarcane or groundnut, ensure the soil is moist.
- Measure the correct dose: Use the recommended dose per acre for your crop. Do not exceed the recommended amount.
- Mix for even spreading (optional but recommended): Since the dose is small (4 kg for paddy), mix the granules with 10-20 kg of dry sand or granular fertilizer (like urea or DAP) for uniform broadcasting. Apply the mixture immediately—do not store after mixing.
- Broadcast evenly: Wear protective gloves and a mask. Spread the granules or sand mixture uniformly across the entire field by hand or using a broadcast applicator.
- Maintain water (for paddy): After application, keep the water impounded in the field for 2-3 days to allow the chemical to release and spread effectively.
- Post-application care: Do not walk barefoot in the treated field. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
- Wait before harvest: Observe the pre-harvest interval (30 days for rice, 15-20 days for groundnut) before harvesting the crop.
Compatibility
Hitatox 10G is incompatible with alkaline materials. Do not mix with alkaline substances as this may reduce effectiveness. The granules can be mixed with dry granular fertilizers like urea or DAP for easier broadcasting, but the mixture must be applied immediately and not stored. Always perform a small jar test if mixing with any new product for the first time.
Precautions & Safety
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, a mask, and goggles while handling and applying the product. Do not apply with bare hands.
- Handling: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during application.
- Environmental safety: This product is highly toxic to fish and aquatic life. Do not use in fields where fish are reared (rice-fish system). Do not drain treated water into fish ponds or water bodies.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep in the original, tightly sealed container. Keep away from food, feed, and drinking water sources.
- Keep away from children and animals: Store in a locked place out of reach of children and livestock.
- Regional restriction: This product is restricted for use in Kerala State.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
Chlorpyrifos is highly toxic to aquatic organisms including fish and aquatic invertebrates. Do not allow runoff or drainage from treated fields to enter water bodies. The product carries a Yellow Triangle toxicity label indicating it is highly toxic to humans and animals if mishandled. Avoid inhalation of dust and contact with skin or eyes. If symptoms like dizziness, nausea, or blurred vision occur during or after application, seek immediate medical attention. The specific antidotes for Chlorpyrifos poisoning are Atropine Sulphate and 2-PAM (Pralidoxime).
