HPM Khaleesi is a selective, post-emergence systemic herbicide containing Quizalofop Ethyl 5% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate). It is specifically designed to control narrow-leaf and grassy weeds in broadleaf crops without harming the main crop. This herbicide belongs to the aryloxyphenoxypropionate (FOP) chemical group and works by inhibiting the Acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase) enzyme, which blocks fatty acid biosynthesis in weeds and leads to their complete death.

HPM Khaleesi is suitable for use in a wide range of broadleaf crops including soybean, cotton, groundnut, onion, black gram, green gram, mentha (peppermint), jute, turmeric, and tea. It effectively targets tough grassy weeds such as barnyard grass (Echinochloa spp.), love grass (Eragrostis spp.), crab grass (Digitaria sanguinalis), goose grass (Eleusine indica), doob grass (Cynodon dactylon), kans grass (Saccharum spontaneum), foxtail grass, wild sorghum, volunteer paddy, and volunteer maize.

The herbicide is rapidly absorbed by weed leaves within one hour of application and translocates throughout the plant down to the roots and growing tips. Affected weeds show visible discoloration (purple/red) within 4–7 days, and complete weed death occurs within 10–15 days. Its quick absorption provides excellent rainfastness, making it effective even if rain occurs just one hour after spraying. HPM Khaleesi is available in 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, and 1 litre pack sizes.

Key Benefits

  • Selective weed control: Targets only narrow-leaf and grassy weeds while being completely safe for broadleaf crops like soybean, cotton, and groundnut.
  • Fast visible results: Weeds turn purple or red within 4–7 days, with complete kill achieved in 10–15 days after application.
  • Rainfast in 1 hour: Rapid leaf absorption ensures the product remains effective even if it rains shortly after spraying.
  • Systemic action for complete kill: Absorbed through leaves and translocated to roots and growing tips, destroying the entire weed structure and preventing regrowth.
  • Long-lasting field cleanliness: Prevents weed regeneration and reduces competition for nutrients, water, and sunlight, promoting better crop growth.
  • Cost-effective solution: Provides prolonged weed control with a single timely application, reducing the need for repeated spraying.
  • Wide crop compatibility: Suitable for use in multiple broadleaf crops including soybean, cotton, groundnut, onion, pulses, tea, and more.

How It Works

HPM Khaleesi works through a systemic mode of action as an ACCase inhibitor (Group 1 herbicide). When sprayed on actively growing weeds, the herbicide is rapidly absorbed through the leaf surface within one hour of application. Once inside the plant, it travels through both the xylem and phloem vascular tissues, moving from the leaves down to the roots and growing tips (meristems).

At the cellular level, Quizalofop Ethyl inhibits the Acetyl CoA carboxylase enzyme, which is essential for fatty acid biosynthesis. Fatty acids are critical building blocks for cell membranes and new cell growth. By blocking this process, the herbicide effectively starves the weed of the materials needed to build new cells. The weed stops growing almost immediately, and within 4–7 days, visible symptoms appear as the weed tissue turns purple or red. Complete death of the weed occurs within 10–15 days. Because the herbicide reaches the roots, the entire weed is destroyed and cannot rejuvenate or regrow.

When to Use

Apply HPM Khaleesi at 20–25 days after sowing (DAS), when weeds are young and actively growing at the 2–4 leaf stage. This is the most effective window for application as young weeds are more susceptible to the herbicide. The crop should be well-established, and weeds should have emerged from the soil. Avoid spraying if heavy rain is expected within one hour of application, although the product is rainfast after one hour. Apply during calm weather conditions to avoid spray drift onto non-target areas.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Check the field: Ensure weeds are at the 2–4 leaf stage and actively growing. Confirm the crop is a recommended broadleaf crop.
  2. Prepare the spray solution: Fill the knapsack sprayer tank with clean water up to half. Add the measured quantity of HPM Khaleesi as per the recommended dosage. Mix thoroughly. Add remaining water and mix again.
  3. Use the right equipment: Use a knapsack sprayer fitted with a flat fan nozzle for uniform coverage.
  4. Spray evenly: Ensure weed leaves are fully wetted for effective absorption. Spray uniformly across the field.
  5. Post-application care: Do not disturb the field for at least 1 hour after spraying. Avoid entering the sprayed area until the spray solution has dried.
  6. Clean equipment: Rinse the sprayer thoroughly with clean water after use.

Precautions & Safety

  • Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, mask, and goggles during mixing and spraying.
  • Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling the product.
  • Store the product in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not contaminate ponds, rivers, or water bodies with the product or its container.
  • Avoid spray drift onto non-target crops, especially grasses and cereals.
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or spraying the product.
  • Dispose of empty containers safely – do not reuse for any purpose.

Side Effects & Phytotoxicity

HPM Khaleesi is highly selective for broadleaf crops and safe when used as directed. However, it is toxic to aquatic organisms. Avoid runoff into water bodies and do not spray near ponds or rivers. The product carries a toxicity label indicating it is environmentally hazardous. Use caution near aquatic environments.

PHI / REI & Storage

  • Shelf Life: 2 years from the date of manufacture under normal storage conditions.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep in original container with lid tightly closed.
