HPM Knock Down Super is a broad-spectrum insecticide containing Lambda Cyhalothrin 5% EC, a synthetic pyrethroid known for its fast knockdown action against a wide range of sucking and chewing pests. It is designed to provide quick control when pest populations rise in crops like cotton, rice, cereals, vegetables, potatoes, and ornamentals.

This insecticide works through both contact and stomach action. When pests come in direct contact with the sprayed surface or feed on treated plant parts, the active ingredient disrupts their nervous system, causing paralysis and rapid death. Knock Down Super also has a strong repellent effect that helps keep pests away from treated crops. Its residual activity continues to protect crops for several days after application, making it a reliable choice for farmers dealing with active pest infestations.

With a practical dose of 1.5 to 2 ml per litre of water, HPM Knock Down Super offers a cost-effective solution for managing mixed pest pressure. It is suitable for use at the early stage of pest infestation and can be applied as a foliar spray using standard spraying equipment. The product is registered under CIR-50,476/2005 and is manufactured by HPM Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. at their Keshwana plant.

Key Benefits

  • Fast knockdown action: Stops pest feeding and movement quickly after application, reducing crop damage during active infestations.
  • Dual action protection: Works through both contact (when pests touch sprayed surfaces) and stomach action (when pests feed on treated plant parts).
  • Broad-spectrum control: Effective against both sucking pests (jassids, thrips, aphids, whiteflies) and chewing pests (bollworms, stem borers, leaf folders, fruit borers).
  • Long residual effect: Remains active on leaf surfaces for several days, providing extended protection against recurring pest pressure.
  • Repellent properties: Helps deter pests from landing on or feeding from treated crops, reducing egg-laying and further infestation.
  • Multi-crop versatility: Suitable for cotton, rice, cereals, vegetables, potatoes, and ornamentals, making it a practical choice for diverse farming needs.
  • Cost-effective dosage: Works effectively at 1.5 to 2 ml per litre of water, offering good value for pest management.

How It Works

HPM Knock Down Super contains Lambda Cyhalothrin, which belongs to the synthetic pyrethroid group (Type II) of insecticides. It acts as a sodium channel modulator (IRAC Group 3A) in the insect's nervous system.

When the insect comes into contact with the sprayed surface or ingests treated plant material, the active ingredient binds to the sodium channels in the nerve cells and keeps them open. This causes continuous nerve firing, leading to over-excitation, tremors, and immediate cessation of feeding. The insect quickly becomes paralyzed and dies, preventing further damage to the crop.

Because it is a non-systemic insecticide, it does not move inside the plant. Instead, it stays on the surface where it is applied. This makes thorough spray coverage of the entire plant canopy, including the undersides of leaves, very important for effective results. The product also acts as an anti-feedant, discouraging pests from landing on or eating the treated crop.

When to Use

Apply HPM Knock Down Super at the early stage of pest infestation, when pest activity is first noticed. This is when the product is most effective, especially against early-stage larvae (small caterpillars) and young sucking pests. Spraying early helps prevent pests from reaching damaging population levels.

The best time of day for spraying is early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Pyrethroids work more effectively at lower temperatures, and spraying during these hours also helps protect beneficial insects like bees that are less active at these times. Avoid spraying during high winds or when rain is expected, as this can cause spray drift or wash-off.

For best results, ensure uniform spray coverage on leaves, shoots, and all pest-affected parts of the crop. Pay special attention to the undersides of leaves where many pests hide. Repeat spray only if pest pressure continues, as per label guidance and pest intensity.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Inspect the crop: Walk through the field and identify the target pest and infestation level before spraying.
  2. Measure the dose: Use 1.5 to 2 ml of HPM Knock Down Super for every 1 litre of clean water. Adjust based on pest intensity and crop.
  3. Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank halfway with clean water. Add the measured quantity of insecticide and mix well. Then add the remaining water and stir again to make a uniform solution.
  4. Check equipment: Use a calibrated knapsack sprayer or power sprayer with proper nozzle settings for even coverage.
  5. Spray evenly: Apply the solution uniformly over the entire crop canopy, including the undersides of leaves. Ensure thorough coverage for best results.
  6. Follow safety measures: Wear protective gear (gloves, mask, goggles) during mixing and spraying. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
  7. Post-application: Clean all spraying equipment thoroughly after use. Do not enter treated fields until the spray has dried completely.

Compatibility

HPM Knock Down Super should not be mixed with alkaline products such as Bordeaux mixture or Lime Sulfur, as this reduces the effectiveness of the insecticide. If mixing with other products is needed, always perform a small jar compatibility test first. Use clean water for preparing the spray solution.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal protection: Always wear gloves, mask, and goggles while handling and spraying the product.
  • Avoid skin contact: Lambda Cyhalothrin may cause a temporary itching or burning sensation on skin (paresthesia). If this happens, wash the area with soap and water. Apply Vitamin E oil or aloe vera if needed. The sensation usually resolves within 24 hours.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Environmental care: Avoid spray drift to water bodies, non-target crops, and areas where beneficial insects like bees are active. Spray in the evening when bees are not foraging.
  • Disposal: Dispose of empty containers and gloves safely. Do not reuse containers for any other purpose.
  • First aid: In case of accidental contact with eyes or skin, wash thoroughly with plenty of water. If ingested, do not induce vomiting and seek medical help immediately.
