HPM Rogohit is a broad-spectrum systemic insecticide containing Dimethoate 30% EC, manufactured by HPM Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. It belongs to the Organophosphate chemical group (IRAC Group 1B) and is formulated as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) for easy mixing and application. Rogohit works through contact, stomach, and systemic action, making it effective against a wide range of sucking pests and stem borers in multiple crops.
This insecticide is absorbed by plant leaves and roots, then moves upward through the plant's sap stream. Once inside the plant, it turns the sap toxic to pests that feed on it. Rogohit also kills insects on direct contact and when they ingest treated plant parts. It has a short life in plant tissues and breaks down rapidly in soil, which means minimal residue concerns for following crops. Farmers trust Rogohit for its reliable control of aphids, jassids, thrips, whiteflies, stem borers, and shoot flies in crops like cotton, maize, sorghum, chilli, mustard, pulses, oilseeds, and vegetables.
Rogohit carries a Yellow Triangle toxicity label (Highly Toxic) and requires careful handling with proper personal protective equipment. It is toxic to bees and aquatic life, so care must be taken during application near flowering crops and water bodies. Due to recent government regulations (October 2023), Dimethoate should not be used on crops meant for raw consumption such as salad vegetables, tomatoes, and cucumbers.
Key Benefits
- Triple-action pest control – Kills pests through contact, stomach poisoning, and systemic action for complete protection
- Systemic protection for hidden pests – Enters the plant sap to kill stem borers, shoot flies, and sucking pests hiding under curled leaves or inside stems
- Fast knockdown – Starts working immediately on contact by attacking the insect's nervous system, causing paralysis and death
- Long-lasting residual control – Provides protection for several days after application, reducing the need for frequent re-spraying
- Cost-effective solution – An economical choice for large-scale farming, especially for cotton and maize growers
- Prevents hopper burn – Stops leaf yellowing and curling caused by heavy jassid attacks in cotton
- Rainfast once absorbed – Systemic action means the chemical stays inside the plant even after rain, once absorbed
- Rapid soil degradation – Breaks down quickly in soil with no residue problems for rotational crops
How It Works
Rogohit contains Dimethoate, an organophosphate compound that acts as an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. When insects come into contact with the spray or ingest treated plant tissue, the chemical enters their body and blocks a key enzyme needed for proper nerve function. This causes the insect's nervous system to become overstimulated, leading to paralysis and rapid death.
The product works through three distinct modes of action. First, contact action – when the spray droplets directly hit the insect, the chemical penetrates its outer layer and begins working immediately. Second, stomach action – when pests feed on treated leaves, stems, or suck sap from the plant, they ingest the poison and die. Third, systemic action – the plant absorbs Dimethoate through its leaves and roots, and the chemical moves upward through the xylem (acropetal movement) to reach new growth, stems, and leaves. This makes the entire plant toxic to feeding pests, including those hiding in leaf whorls, curled leaves, or inside stems where spray cannot reach directly.
Because of its systemic nature, Rogohit provides protection to new leaves that grow after spraying. Once absorbed by the plant, the chemical becomes rainfast, meaning light rain after application will not wash it off. This makes it especially valuable during monsoon seasons when frequent rains can reduce the effectiveness of non-systemic insecticides.

Recommended Dosage & Application
Always follow the dose per acre for accurate results. The table below shows recommended dosages for different crops:
| Crop | Target Pests | Dose (ml/Acre) | Water (L/Acre) | Dose (ml/Litre) | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton | Aphids, Jassids, Thrips, Whiteflies | 264 - 300 ml | 200 - 300 L | 1.5 - 2.0 ml | 21 |
| Maize | Stem Borer, Shoot Fly | 264 - 400 ml | 200 - 400 L | ~ 2.0 ml | 14+ |
| Sorghum | Shoot Fly, Stem Borer | 264 - 400 ml | 200 - 400 L | ~ 2.0 ml | - |
| Chilli | Mites, Thrips | 396 ml | 200 - 400 L | ~ 2.0 ml | 14 - 21 |
| Mustard | Aphids, Sawfly | 264 - 396 ml | 200 - 400 L | ~ 2.0 ml | 14 - 21 |
| Pulses | Whiteflies, Pod Borer, Thrips | 150 ml | - | - | - |
| Oilseeds | Sucking pests | 150 ml | - | - | - |
| Vegetables | Thrips, Aphids | - | - | 1 ml | - |
Note: PHI = Pre-Harvest Interval – the minimum number of days to wait between the last spray and harvesting. For vegetables, use 1 ml per litre of water. For cotton, apply from vegetative stage to boll formation.
When to Use
Apply Rogohit at the first sign of pest infestation for best results. Early application when pest populations are low gives better control and prevents crop damage from becoming severe. For cotton, use from the vegetative stage up to boll formation. For maize and sorghum, apply when stem borer or shoot fly activity is noticed – direct the spray into the leaf whorls where borers hide.
For sucking pests like aphids, jassids, and thrips, spray when you see the first insects on the lower leaves. For whiteflies in pulses, apply during the flowering to podding stage. In chilli, apply when mites or thrips appear. In mustard, spray when aphids or sawfly are seen on the crop.
Avoid spraying during strong wind, high temperatures, or when rain is expected within a few hours (though once absorbed, the product is rainfast). Do not spray during bee foraging times (when the crop is in full bloom) as Rogohit is toxic to honeybees.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare protective gear – Wear gloves, mask, goggles, and protective clothing before handling the product.
- Fill the spray tank – Fill the spray tank halfway with clean water.
- Add the required quantity – Measure the correct dose of Rogohit as per the crop and pest. Add it to the water in the tank.
- Mix thoroughly – Stir or shake the mixture well until the insecticide is fully dispersed in the water.
- Top up with water – Add the remaining water to reach the desired spray volume.
- Spray evenly – Apply the mixture uniformly on crop foliage, covering both upper and lower sides of leaves. For stem borers in maize/sorghum, direct the nozzle into the leaf whorls.
- Clean equipment – After spraying, wash the sprayer and all equipment thoroughly with clean water. Do not dispose of wash water near water bodies.
- Post-application hygiene – Wash hands, face, and exposed skin with soap and water. Change and wash clothes used during spraying separately.
Compatibility
Rogohit is generally compatible with common fungicides like Mancozeb and Carbendazim. However, do NOT mix Rogohit with alkaline products such as Bordeaux Mixture or Lime Sulphur, as these destroy the efficacy of the insecticide immediately. Always perform a jar test before mixing with any new product to check for physical compatibility. Do not mix with any product unless compatibility is confirmed.
