HPM Superhit is a dual-action fungicide that combines two powerful active ingredients — Cymoxanil 8% and Mancozeb 64% in a Wettable Powder (WP) formulation. This combination fungicide is specially designed to protect crops from diseases caused by Oomycetes fungi, including Downy Mildew, Late Blight, Early Blight, and Leaf Spot. It works through both systemic (internal) and contact (surface) modes of action, giving farmers a complete solution for disease management in crops like grapes, potato, tomato, and citrus.
The product belongs to the Cyanoacetamide oxime (Cymoxanil) and Dithiocarbamate (Mancozeb) chemical groups. Cymoxanil provides local systemic action by penetrating leaf tissues quickly and stopping fungal growth from inside, while Mancozeb acts as a protective shield on the leaf surface, preventing new spore germination. This two-pronged attack makes HPM Superhit effective even when applied 24 to 48 hours after infection has started — a feature known as "kick-back" or curative action.
HPM Superhit is registered under the Insecticides Act, 1968, and is manufactured by HPM Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd., India. It is available in multiple pack sizes including 100 gm, 250 gm, 500 gm, 600 gm, and 1 kg. The product is for agricultural use only and is restricted in the state of Kerala.
Key Benefits
- Dual-action protection: Systemic (Cymoxanil) kills fungus inside the plant, while contact action (Mancozeb) prevents new infections on the surface — giving complete coverage.
- Curative kick-back action: Can stop disease even 1-2 days after infection has started, making it highly effective during wet weather when diseases spread fast.
- Low resistance risk: Multi-site mode of action of Mancozeb makes it very difficult for fungi to develop resistance, ensuring long-term effectiveness.
- Quick absorption and rainfastness: Cymoxanil penetrates leaf tissues rapidly, so the medicine is not easily washed off by sudden rains.
- Long-lasting residual protection: Provides extended disease control, reducing the need for frequent sprays.
- Contains micronutrients: Mancozeb supplies Manganese and Zinc to crops, supporting greener and healthier foliage.
- Effective against Oomycetes: Specifically targets tough fungal diseases like Downy Mildew and Late Blight that are hard to control with single-action fungicides.
How It Works
HPM Superhit attacks fungal pathogens through two completely different mechanisms, leaving no room for the disease to survive.
Cymoxanil (8%) — The Curative Component: This active ingredient is locally systemic, meaning it penetrates the leaf cuticle and moves inside the plant tissue. Once inside, it inhibits fungal RNA synthesis (nucleic acid production), effectively killing the fungus that has already entered the plant. This is why HPM Superhit can stop disease even after infection has begun — it works from within the plant to clean out incubating mycelium.
Mancozeb (64%) — The Protective Shield: This multi-site contact fungicide stays on the leaf surface and blocks the fungus's energy production (ATP) at several points. Because it attacks at multiple sites, it is extremely difficult for fungi to develop resistance against it. Mancozeb prevents new spores from germinating and forming fresh infections.
Combined Effect: Together, these two components provide what is called "post-infection activity." The Cymoxanil cures existing infections while Mancozeb protects healthy tissue. This synergy makes HPM Superhit especially effective during monsoon and humid conditions when Downy Mildew and Late Blight spread rapidly.

Note: Dosage information varies across sources. For grapes, source 1 mentions 300 gm/acre while source 4 mentions 600-800 gm/acre. For potato and tomato, source 1 mentions 400 gm/acre while source 4 mentions 600 gm/acre. Always refer to the official product label for the correct dosage for your specific crop and region.
Application Method: For foliar spray, use 2 to 2.5 gm per litre of water. Ensure thorough coverage of foliage, especially the undersides of leaves where Downy Mildew spores hide.
When to Use
Apply HPM Superhit at the first sign of disease symptoms or when weather conditions become favourable for disease development. For grapes, look for early signs like oil spots on leaves which indicate Downy Mildew infection. For potato and tomato, watch for blight lesions on leaves and stems. The product is most effective when applied immediately after cloudy or wet weather sets in, as these conditions promote Oomycetes fungal growth.
Because of its curative kick-back action, HPM Superhit can be applied even 24 to 48 hours after infection has started, making it a reliable option during rainy seasons when timely spraying is difficult. For preventive use, apply before disease onset during high-risk periods such as monsoon, high humidity, or cool and damp weather.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare the spray solution: Fill a small bucket with clean water. Add the required quantity of HPM Superhit powder (2 to 2.5 gm per litre of water) and mix well to form a smooth slurry.
- Add to main tank: Pour the slurry into the spray tank filled with the required amount of water. Stir or agitate the mixture thoroughly to ensure uniform suspension.
- Check equipment: Ensure your sprayer (knapsack or tractor-mounted) is clean and functioning properly. Calibrate the sprayer for even output.
- Spray application: Apply as a foliar spray covering all parts of the plant, especially the undersides of leaves where fungal spores tend to hide. Maintain constant agitation in the tank to prevent settling.
- Timing: Spray during early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower and wind is minimal. Avoid spraying in direct sunlight or when rain is expected within 2-3 hours.
- Post-application: Clean all spray equipment thoroughly after use. Wash hands and exposed skin with soap and water.
Compatibility
HPM Superhit is a Wettable Powder formulation. As a general practice, always conduct a jar test before mixing with any other product to check for physical compatibility. Avoid mixing with highly alkaline substances. Follow the correct mixing order: wettable powders should be added first to the tank and mixed thoroughly before adding other formulations like EC or SC products.
Precautions & Safety
- Always wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves, mask, and goggles during mixing and spraying.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product.
- Wash hands and exposed body parts thoroughly with soap and water after application.
- Keep the product away from food, animal feed, and drinking water.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Keep out of reach of children and unauthorized persons.
- Avoid spray drift to nearby water bodies, non-target crops, and grazing areas.
- Dispose of empty containers safely — do not reuse for any purpose.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
HPM Superhit has standard toxicity (Blue/Green label depending on pack). As with any chemical fungicide, avoid over-application or use under extreme weather conditions. Do not apply during peak heat hours as this may cause leaf stress. Always follow the recommended dosage — using higher than recommended doses may lead to phytotoxicity.
