HPM Tamma is a systemic seed treatment insecticide containing Thiamethoxam 30% FS (Flowable Suspension formulation). It is designed to protect crops from early-season sucking pests and soil-dwelling insects that attack seeds and young seedlings. The product belongs to the neonicotinoid chemical group (IRAC Group 4A) and works by disrupting the insect nervous system, causing paralysis and rapid death.
As a seed treatment, HPM Tamma is applied to seeds before sowing. The active ingredient is absorbed by the seed and moves systemically through the growing plant, providing protection from the inside out. This makes it effective against a wide range of pests including aphids, jassids, thrips, whiteflies, shoot flies, stem flies, and termites. It is suitable for use on cotton, maize, wheat, barley, soybean, sorghum, sunflower, chilli, okra, sugar beet, and canola crops.
The key advantage of HPM Tamma is that it protects the crop during its most vulnerable early growth stages without requiring multiple foliar sprays. It promotes better seed germination, stronger root development, and uniform crop establishment. The product carries a Blue Triangle toxicity label (moderately hazardous) and should be handled with proper safety precautions.
Key Benefits
- Provides systemic protection from inside the plant — the active ingredient moves through the plant as it grows, safeguarding new shoots and leaves
- Controls both soil-dwelling pests (termites, root maggots) and above-ground sucking pests (aphids, jassids, thrips, whiteflies) with a single seed treatment
- Offers long-lasting early-season protection for up to 30–40 days, reducing the need for repeated insecticide sprays
- Promotes better seed germination, stronger root development, and uniform crop stand establishment
- Weather-resistant protection — once absorbed by the plant, rain does not wash it away
- Triple action through contact, stomach, and systemic modes for effective pest elimination
- Reduces early crop damage that can lead to yield losses, helping farmers get healthier, more vigorous crops
How It Works
HPM Tamma contains Thiamethoxam, a systemic insecticide from the neonicotinoid group. When seeds are treated before sowing, the active ingredient is absorbed by the seed and later moves through the roots and vascular system into all parts of the growing seedling — stems, leaves, and new shoots.
When a pest feeds on the sap or tissue of a treated plant, it ingests the active ingredient. Thiamethoxam then binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the insect's nervous system. This causes over-stimulation of the nerves, leading to tremors, paralysis, and rapid death of the pest. The insect stops feeding almost immediately after contact or ingestion.
Because the chemical works from inside the plant, it provides protection even against pests that are hiding in soil or on the underside of leaves. The systemic movement also means the protection is not lost due to rain or overhead irrigation once the product is absorbed.

Recommended Dosage & Application
Important: HPM Tamma is a seed treatment product only. Always dose based on seed weight (ml per kg of seed), not per acre. The per-acre dose depends on your seed rate.
| Crop | Dose (ml per kg seed) | Water for Slurry | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton | 10 ml / kg seed | Sufficient for slurry (~10 ml water per kg seed) | NA |
| Sorghum / Maize | 10 ml / kg seed | Sufficient for slurry (~10 ml water per kg seed) | NA |
| Soybean | 10 ml / kg seed | Sufficient for slurry (~10 ml water per kg seed) | NA |
| Wheat | 10 ml / kg seed | Sufficient for slurry (~10 ml water per kg seed) | NA |
Alternate dosage reference: 1 ml per liter of water or 200 ml per acre with 200 liters of water (for slurry preparation as per seed quantity).
When to Use
Apply HPM Tamma to seeds immediately before sowing. The product is designed for pre-sowing seed treatment, so timing is tied to your sowing schedule. Treat seeds on the same day as sowing for best results. Do not treat seeds too far in advance and store them for long periods after treatment.
The product is most valuable during the early crop stages (germination to 30–40 days after sowing) when seedlings are most vulnerable to sucking pests and soil-dwelling insects. Use it when you expect pest pressure from aphids, jassids, thrips, whiteflies, shoot flies, stem flies, or termites in your field based on past seasons or local pest forecasts.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Calculate the dose: Measure the quantity of seeds to be sown. Use 10 ml of HPM Tamma per kg of seed.
- Prepare the slurry: Mix the required dose of HPM Tamma with a small amount of clean water — approximately 10 ml of water per kg of seed. Mix well to create a uniform slurry.
- Coat the seeds: Place the seeds in a plastic bag, drum, or container. Add the slurry and mix thoroughly by shaking or stirring until all seeds are uniformly coated.
- Dry the seeds: Spread the treated seeds in a shaded area and allow them to dry completely. Do not dry treated seeds in direct sunlight.
- Sow immediately: Sow the treated seeds as soon as possible after drying. Do not mix treated seeds with untreated seeds during storage or sowing.
- Disposal: Use treated seeds only for planting. Do not use for food, feed, or oil extraction purposes.
Compatibility
HPM Tamma is generally compatible with common seed treatment fungicides. For best results, apply the fungicide first, allow seeds to dry, and then apply HPM Tamma. Always conduct a small jar test before mixing with any new product to check for physical compatibility.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear gloves, mask, and protective clothing while handling the product and treated seeds
- Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after application
- Store the product in original sealed containers in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and water sources
- Keep out of reach of children, pets, and livestock
- Do not use treated seeds for food, feed, or oil purposes
- Do not mix treated seeds with untreated seeds during storage or sowing
- Dispose of empty containers safely — do not reuse for any purpose
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
When used at the recommended dosage of 10 ml per kg of seed, HPM Tamma does not affect seed germination and helps improve seedling vigor. Always follow the recommended dose — overdosing may affect germination or cause phytotoxicity. This product is not effective against chewing pests like bollworms or caterpillars.
PHI / REI & Storage
- Shelf life: 2 years when stored in original sealed containers in a cool, dry place
- PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval): Not applicable — this is a seed treatment product applied before sowing
- Storage conditions: Store away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Keep away from food and animal feed
