HPM Tathastu GR is a ready-to-use granular insecticide containing Chlorantraniliprole 0.4% GR, designed specifically for soil and root-zone pest control in field crops. Unlike liquid sprays that target foliage, this granular formulation works from the ground up — the granules are broadcast in the field, dissolve in soil moisture or standing water, and are absorbed by the roots. The active ingredient then moves systemically inside the plant to protect it from stem borers and other internal pests that hide inside the stalk where sprays cannot reach.

Tathastu GR belongs to the Anthranilic Diamide chemical group (IRAC Group 28) and works as a Ryanodine Receptor Modulator. It is particularly effective against stem borers in rice (paddy), sugarcane, and maize. The blue-colored granules are easy to handle and apply, making them a practical choice for farmers dealing with borer infestations during the early vegetative stage of crop growth. With one application, the product provides extended protection, reducing the need for repeated sprays.

This product is ideal for farmers who follow integrated pest management (IPM) practices, as Chlorantraniliprole has selective action that is safer for beneficial insects and earthworms compared to many older insecticides. Tathastu GR is intended for agricultural use only and should be applied strictly according to label recommendations.

Key Benefits

  • Long-lasting protection: One application provides weeks of control against stem borers, reducing the need for frequent reapplication.
  • Systemic root-to-shoot action: Granules are absorbed by roots and move upward inside the plant, protecting stems and leaves from hidden pests.
  • Effective against hidden borers: Controls pests like stem borers that live inside the plant stalk where foliar sprays cannot reach.
  • Weather-resistant performance: Designed for use in standing water conditions (paddy fields), making it reliable during rainy seasons.
  • Safe for beneficial organisms: Selective action means lower impact on beneficial insects, earthworms, and pollinators when used as directed.
  • Easy to apply: Ready-to-use granules can be broadcast directly or mixed with sand/fertilizer for uniform distribution.
  • Reduces spray frequency: Soil application method saves labour and time compared to repeated foliar sprays.

How It Works

HPM Tathastu GR contains Chlorantraniliprole, which belongs to the Anthranilic Diamide group of insecticides. When the granules are broadcast in the field and come in contact with soil moisture or standing water, they release the active ingredient. The chemical is absorbed by the plant roots and moves systemically upward through the vascular system, reaching stems, leaves, and new growth.

When a pest feeds on any part of the treated plant, it ingests the active ingredient. Chlorantraniliprole then targets the Ryanodine Receptors in the insect's muscle cells. It causes an uncontrolled release of calcium from the muscle cells, which leads to immediate muscle contraction, paralysis, and feeding stoppage. The pest stops feeding within minutes and dies within a short period. Because the chemical is distributed throughout the plant, even pests that bore inside the stem or feed on new growth are exposed to the active ingredient.

This unique mode of action (IRAC Group 28) is different from most older insecticides, making Tathastu GR effective even against pests that have developed resistance to other chemical groups. The systemic movement ensures that the entire plant is protected from the inside out.

When to Use

Tathastu GR should be applied during the early vegetative stage of the crop, which is when stem borers and root pests are most active and cause maximum damage. For rice (paddy), apply at 20-30 days after transplanting. This timing ensures the granules are in place before the pest population builds up, protecting the young plants during their most vulnerable growth phase.

For sugarcane, apply during the early vegetative stage to protect against Early Shoot Borer and Top Borer. In maize, application at 20-30 days after sowing helps control stem borers before they bore into the stalk. The product works best when there is adequate soil moisture or standing water (in paddy fields) to help the granules dissolve and release the active ingredient for root uptake.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Inspect the field: Check for early signs of pest infestation such as dead hearts (dried central shoots) in paddy or bore holes in sugarcane stalks.
  2. Measure the correct dose: Use 4 kg per acre for rice and maize, or 7.5 kg per acre for sugarcane. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
  3. Prepare for application: For paddy, ensure there is 2-3 inches of standing water in the field. For sugarcane and maize, ensure the soil is moist.
  4. Mix if needed: The granules can be mixed with dry sand or fertilizer (at a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio) for more uniform broadcast distribution. Apply immediately after mixing.
  5. Broadcast evenly: Spread the granules uniformly across the entire field by hand or using a manual broadcaster. Ensure even coverage.
  6. Post-application care: For paddy, maintain standing water for a few days after application to help the granules dissolve and spread to the root zone.
  7. Monitor the crop: Check the field regularly for pest activity. One application typically provides extended protection, but re-apply only if needed and as per label guidance.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, a mask, and goggles while handling and applying the granules.
  • Hygiene: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling the product.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
  • Environmental safety: Do not allow treated water to run off directly into fish ponds, rivers, or natural water bodies. Chlorantraniliprole is classified as a marine pollutant (UN 3077).
  • Non-target crops: Avoid drift or runoff to non-target crops and areas.
  • Disposal: Do not reuse empty containers. Dispose of them responsibly as per local regulations.
  • First aid: In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical help and show the product label to the doctor. If product gets into eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water for 15 minutes.
