HPM Terminator 505 is a broad-spectrum combination insecticide that contains two powerful active ingredients: Chlorpyriphos 50% and Cypermethrin 5% in an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) formulation. This dual-action insecticide belongs to the Organophosphate and Pyrethroid chemical groups, making it highly effective against a wide range of chewing and sucking pests that attack major crops like cotton, rice, pulses, and vegetables.
Terminator 505 works through multiple modes of action including contact, stomach, fumigation, and vapour action. This means it kills pests on direct contact, when they feed on treated plant parts, through fumigant action in the soil, and through vapour that reaches hidden pests. The combination of Chlorpyriphos and Cypermethrin provides a quick knockdown effect along with long-lasting residual protection, reducing the need for frequent sprays.
This insecticide is particularly valued by farmers for its effectiveness against bollworms in cotton, stem borers and leaf folders in rice, and a variety of sucking pests like aphids, jassids, thrips, and whiteflies across multiple crops. It also works well against pests that have developed resistance to other insecticides. Terminator 505 is available in pack sizes of 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 1 litre, and 5 litres to suit different farm sizes and needs. Please note that this product is restricted in Kerala state.
Key Benefits
- Dual-action pest control: The combination of Chlorpyriphos and Cypermethrin controls both chewing pests (bollworms, caterpillars, stem borers) and sucking pests (aphids, jassids, thrips, whiteflies) in a single spray.
- Quick knockdown effect: Pests are killed rapidly on contact or through ingestion, providing immediate relief from infestation and reducing crop damage.
- Long-lasting residual protection: The product stays active on plant surfaces for an extended period, reducing the number of sprays needed and saving labour and input costs.
- Effective against resistant pests: Works well even on pest populations that have developed resistance to other insecticides, making it a reliable option for challenging pest situations.
- Multiple modes of action: Contact, stomach, fumigation, and vapour action ensure pests are controlled through different pathways, improving overall effectiveness.
- Versatile crop protection: Suitable for cotton, rice, paddy, pulses (black gram, green gram, red gram), and vegetables, making it a valuable all-round insecticide for mixed farming.
- Soil and foliar use: Effective as a foliar spray on crops and also as a soil application to control termites, white grubs, and root grubs.
How It Works
HPM Terminator 505 combines two active ingredients that attack the insect nervous system through different mechanisms, creating a powerful and complementary pest control effect.
Chlorpyriphos (50%) belongs to the Organophosphate chemical group. It works by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which is essential for proper nerve function in insects. When this enzyme is blocked, nerve impulses cannot be stopped, leading to continuous nerve firing, paralysis, and eventually death of the pest. Chlorpyriphos acts through contact, stomach, and fumigation action, making it effective against pests that come in direct contact with the spray, those that feed on treated plant parts, and even soil-dwelling insects through its fumigant properties.
Cypermethrin (5%) belongs to the Pyrethroid chemical group. It acts as a sodium channel modulator, which means it interferes with the sodium channels in insect nerve cells. This causes repeated and uncontrolled nerve firing, leading to rapid paralysis and knockdown. Cypermethrin provides the quick knockdown effect that farmers observe soon after spraying.
When used together, these two active ingredients create a synergistic effect, meaning they work better in combination than either would alone. The quick knockdown from Cypermethrin stops pests from feeding immediately, while Chlorpyriphos provides longer-lasting residual control and reaches hidden pests through its fumigation and vapour action. This multi-mode approach also helps in managing resistance, as pests find it difficult to develop resistance against two different modes of action simultaneously.

When to Use
Apply HPM Terminator 505 at the first sign of pest infestation or when pest populations reach economic threshold levels. Early intervention gives the best results and prevents pests from causing significant crop damage.
For Cotton: Apply during the vegetative to flowering stage when bollworms (American, Pink, Spotted) are observed. Also effective when sucking pests like aphids, jassids, thrips, and whiteflies appear on young plants. Monitor the crop regularly and spray at early to peak infestation stages.
For Rice (Paddy): Apply during the tillering to flowering stage when stem borers or leaf folders are detected. Look for symptoms like dead hearts (dried central shoots) or leaf folding and feeding damage.
For Pulses: Apply during the flowering to pod formation stage when pod borers and caterpillars are active. Early spraying at the onset of flowering helps protect developing pods.
For Vegetables: Apply during the vegetative growth stage when sucking pests like aphids, thrips, and whiteflies appear on tender leaves and shoots.
Avoid spraying during heavy rainfall, extreme heat, or when the crop is under moisture stress. The pre-harvest interval (waiting period) is 15 days for cotton and rice crops.
