Product Overview

IIL Bravo 5000 is a broad-spectrum synthetic pyrethroid insecticide manufactured by Insecticides (India) Limited. It contains Lambda-cyhalothrin 5% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate), a powerful active ingredient that provides rapid knockdown and long-lasting control of a wide range of insect pests.

Bravo 5000 works through both contact and stomach action. When pests come in contact with the spray or feed on treated plant parts, the chemical enters their body and attacks the nervous system. This leads to immediate paralysis, feeding cessation, and eventually death. The product is effective against biting, chewing, and sucking insect pests across multiple crops including cotton, rice, vegetables, pulses, and fruits.

With its advanced EC formulation, Bravo 5000 penetrates leaf surfaces quickly and provides residual protection for 1 to 3 weeks. It is rainfast within 4 hours of application, making it a reliable choice for Indian farmers facing pest pressure during the monsoon season. The product is classified under IRAC Group 3A (Sodium Channel Modulator) and carries a Blue Triangle toxicity label (Moderately Toxic).

Key Benefits

  • Instant knockdown action – Pests are paralysed immediately upon contact, stopping crop damage within minutes
  • Dual-action protection – Works as both a contact poison (kills on touch) and a stomach poison (kills when pests eat treated leaves)
  • Long-lasting residual control – Remains active on the plant for 1 to 3 weeks, reducing the need for frequent re-spraying
  • Rainfast in 4 hours – Absorbs quickly into leaf surfaces and resists wash-off from rain, saving you from re-application
  • Broad-spectrum efficacy – Controls bollworms, stem borers, leaf folders, jassids, thrips, hoppers, fruit borers, and pod borers in one product
  • Cost-effective dosage – Low用量 per acre makes it an affordable solution for small and large farmers
  • Multi-crop versatility – Safe and effective on cotton, rice, vegetables, mango, gram, and more

How It Works

Bravo 5000 acts as a nerve poison for insects. The active ingredient Lambda-cyhalothrin targets the nervous system of the pest by keeping the sodium channels in nerve cells open. This causes the insect's nerves to fire uncontrollably, leading to hyper-excitation, loss of coordination, and immediate paralysis (knockdown).

Even before death occurs, the pest stops feeding on your crop, which means crop damage stops within minutes of application. The chemical enters the pest's body through two routes: direct contact when the spray hits the pest, and ingestion when the pest feeds on treated leaves or plant surfaces. Additionally, Bravo 5000 has a repellent effect that discourages adult moths from laying eggs on treated plants, providing an extra layer of protection.

Because it is a contact and stomach insecticide, thorough spray coverage of the plant — including the underside of leaves — is important for best results. The EC formulation helps the chemical spread evenly and penetrate leaf surfaces quickly.

When to Use

Apply Bravo 5000 when you first notice pest activity or when pest numbers cross the Economic Threshold Level (ETL). Early intervention gives the best results and prevents pest populations from building up.

  • Cotton: Spray at the appearance of bollworms, jassids, thrips, or whitefly adults. For fruit borers, spray at the flowering stage.
  • Rice: Apply at the first signs of stem borer damage (dead hearts) or leaf folder infestation.
  • Vegetables: Start spraying when shoot or fruit borer damage is noticed. For sucking pests like thrips and jassids, spray when populations begin to build up.
  • Time of day: Spray during early morning or late evening to avoid high heat and to protect honeybees which are active during the day.

Frequency of application depends on pest incidence and severity. In cases of heavy infestation, repeat application may be needed after 10-15 days.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank halfway with clean water.
  2. Add the required dose: Measure the correct amount of Bravo 5000 as per the crop and pest table above. Add it to the tank.
  3. Mix thoroughly: Stir the solution well, then fill the tank with the remaining water. Keep the mixture agitated during spraying.
  4. Spray evenly: Apply the spray to ensure thorough coverage of the entire plant. Pay special attention to the underside of leaves where sucking pests like jassids, thrips, and mites hide.
  5. Timing: Spray during early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower and bees are not active.
  6. Post-application: Wash the spray equipment thoroughly after use. Do not drain leftover spray into water bodies.
  7. Safety: Wear gloves, mask, and goggles during mixing and spraying. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after application.

Compatibility

Bravo 5000 is compatible with most commonly used insecticides and fungicides. However, avoid mixing with highly alkaline substances such as Bordeaux mixture or lime-based sprays, as alkalinity can reduce the effectiveness of Lambda-cyhalothrin. When mixing with other products, always do a small jar test first to check for any adverse reaction. Follow the correct mixing sequence: fill tank halfway with water → add Bravo 5000 → stir → add other products → top up with water.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, a face mask, and goggles while handling and spraying Bravo 5000.
  • Skin sensation: Lambda-cyhalothrin may cause a temporary tingling or burning sensation on skin (paresthesia). This is a common and temporary effect of pyrethroids, not an allergy. Wash with soap and water. Applying Vitamin E oil or coconut oil can help soothe the skin. The sensation usually fades within 24 hours.
  • Honeybee safety: This product is toxic to bees. Do not spray during active bee foraging hours. Apply only in late evening or early morning when bees are not active.
  • Water bodies: Toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate ponds, rivers, or other water sources. Do not wash spray equipment near water bodies.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Hygiene: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product.

Side Effects & Phytotoxicity

When used as per recommended dosage and timing, Bravo 5000 is safe for the target crops. However, spraying during extreme heat or under water-stressed conditions may increase the risk of phytotoxicity. Always follow the recommended dose per acre — do not exceed the specified用量. The product may cause temporary skin tingling (paresthesia) in humans upon contact, which is a known effect of synthetic pyrethroids and is not harmful.
