IIL Hana is a powerful combination fungicide from Insecticides India Limited (IIL) that brings together two active ingredients — Tebuconazole 10% and Sulphur 65% — in a Water Dispersible Granule (WG) formulation. This product is designed to provide both systemic and contact action against major fungal diseases in crops like chilli, soybean, and mango. It effectively controls powdery mildew, fruit rot (anthracnose), leaf spot, and pod blight, while also offering mite suppression and correcting sulphur deficiency in plants.

The dual-mode formula works in two ways: Tebuconazole moves inside the plant through the xylem to reach hidden fungal growth, while Sulphur forms a protective barrier on the leaf surface to stop new infections. This makes IIL Hana suitable for both preventive and curative use. The WG formulation ensures dust-free handling, easy mixing, and uniform spray coverage without clogging nozzles. Farmers can rely on this product for dependable disease management and healthier crop growth.

Key Benefits

  • Dual action protection: Systemic Tebuconazole kills fungus inside the plant while contact Sulphur prevents new spore germination on the surface.
  • Triple benefit in one spray: Works as a fungicide, miticide (suppresses mites), and a source of micronutrient sulphur for greener leaves.
  • Resistance management: Two different modes of action (Group 3 + Group M2) make it difficult for fungi to develop resistance.
  • WG formulation advantage: Dust-free granules dissolve easily in water, ensuring even spray coverage and no nozzle clogging.
  • Preventive and curative: Can be used before disease appears or at the first sign of infection for effective control.
  • Phytotonic effect: The 65% sulphur content corrects sulphur deficiency, leading to better photosynthesis and healthier plants.
  • IPM friendly: Suitable for Integrated Pest Management programs due to its multi-site action and low impact when used correctly.

How It Works

IIL Hana uses a synergistic two-pronged approach to eliminate fungal diseases. Tebuconazole, a triazole compound, is systemic in nature. Once sprayed, it is absorbed by the leaves and moves upward through the xylem vessels to reach new growth and unsprayed plant parts. Inside the plant, it blocks ergosterol biosynthesis — a key component of fungal cell walls — effectively stopping the fungus from growing and spreading from within.

At the same time, Sulphur acts as a contact fungicide. It spreads across the leaf surface and disrupts fungal respiration by interfering with electron transport in the mitochondria. This prevents new spores from germinating and stops the fungus from establishing infection. Sulphur also produces vapours that create a protective halo around the plant, offering additional protection. Together, these two active ingredients attack the fungus at multiple sites, making it nearly impossible for the disease to survive or develop resistance. Additionally, the sulphur content provides acaricidal (mite-killing) activity, helping suppress mite populations in mild infestations.

When to Use

Apply IIL Hana as a preventive spray before disease symptoms appear, especially during weather conditions that favour fungal development such as high humidity, cloudy weather, or dew formation. For curative action, spray immediately at the first sign of powdery mildew, leaf spots, or fruit rot. On chilli, watch for white powdery growth on leaves and fruit rot during flowering and fruiting stages. On soybean, apply during the vegetative to pod formation stages when leaf spot or pod blight symptoms are first noticed. On mango, apply during flowering and fruit set stages to prevent powdery mildew. Avoid spraying during the hottest part of the day or when rain is expected within 4-6 hours.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Calculate the dose: Measure the required quantity based on your crop and area. For chilli and soybean, use 500 g per acre mixed in 200 litres of water. For mango, use 1 to 1.5 g per litre of water.
  2. Prepare the mixture: Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the measured WG granules to a small amount of water to make a slurry, then pour this slurry into the tank while stirring continuously.
  3. Mix thoroughly: Add the remaining water and stir well to ensure the granules are fully dispersed. The WG formulation dissolves quickly and evenly.
  4. Spray application: Apply as a foliar spray ensuring complete coverage of all plant parts — both upper and lower leaf surfaces, stems, and fruits. Good coverage is important as contact sulphur needs to reach the target.
  5. Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly wash the spray tank and nozzles with clean water to prevent residue buildup.
  6. Safety during application: Wear gloves, mask, and goggles while mixing and spraying. Avoid spraying during windy conditions or peak sunlight hours. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after application.

Compatibility

IIL Hana is generally compatible with common insecticides like Imidacloprid. However, do not mix with oil-based formulations, alkaline solutions, or Bordeaux mixture, as Sulphur can react and cause phytotoxicity (burning) on plants. Always perform a small jar test before mixing with any new product. Do not mix with any product that has an alkaline pH.

Precautions & Safety

  • Always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) — gloves, mask, and goggles — during mixing and spraying.
  • Avoid inhalation of dust or spray mist. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product.
  • Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after use.
  • Store the product in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
  • Avoid spray drift to water bodies, non-target crops, and flowering plants visited by bees.
  • Do not spray during the hottest part of the day or under strong sunlight to avoid leaf burn.
  • Dispose of empty containers safely — do not reuse for any purpose.

Side Effects & Phytotoxicity

This product is non-phytotoxic when used as per recommended dosage. However, spraying under very high temperatures, high humidity, or on stressed crops may increase the risk of leaf burn due to the sulphur content. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Avoid mixing with oil-based sprays or alkaline chemicals to prevent crop injury.

PHI / REI & Storage

  • PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval): 5 days for chilli, 26 days for soybean. Refer to label for mango.
  • REI (Re-Entry Interval): 24 hours after application.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep in original container with lid tightly closed.
