Product Overview
IIL Mission SC is a broad-spectrum insecticide from Insecticides India Limited, containing Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC (Suspension Concentrate). It belongs to the anthranilic diamide chemical group (IRAC Group 28) and works through a unique Ryanodine Receptor Modulator mode of action. Unlike conventional nerve-poison insecticides, Mission SC targets the muscular system of pests, causing rapid feeding cessation and death within 1–3 days of application.
This insecticide is highly effective against a wide range of lepidopteran pests including stem borers, leaf folders, fruit borers, bollworms, and diamondback moth across crops like rice, cotton, sugarcane, tomato, brinjal, cabbage, okra, bitter gourd, and black gram. The suspension concentrate formulation provides excellent rainfastness—it binds to the leaf surface within 2 hours and remains effective even after rainfall.
Mission SC is a green-label product with low toxicity to humans and beneficial insects when used correctly. It has a short pre-harvest interval (PHI) of just 3 days for vegetables like tomato and brinjal, making it ideal for export-oriented and harvest-ready crops. It is an excellent choice for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs due to its selective action and safety to natural predators and pollinators.
Key Benefits
- Stops feeding instantly: Pests stop damaging the crop within minutes of ingestion, preventing further yield loss immediately.
- Long-lasting residual control: Provides protection for up to 2–3 weeks under normal conditions, reducing the need for frequent re-spraying.
- Excellent rainfastness: The SC formulation sticks to leaves within 2 hours of application, ensuring effectiveness even if it rains shortly after spraying.
- Short pre-harvest interval: Only 3 days PHI for vegetables like tomato and brinjal—ideal for harvest-ready and export crops.
- Green-label safety: Low toxicity to applicators and safe for beneficial insects, pollinators, and natural predators when used as directed.
- Effective on resistant pests: Unique mode of action (Group 28) makes it effective against pests that have developed resistance to other insecticide groups.
- Low dosage requirement: Only 0.3 ml per litre of water for most crops—high efficacy at very low doses.
How It Works
IIL Mission SC works on the muscular system of the insect, specifically targeting the Ryanodine Receptors (RyR). This is different from older insecticides that attack the nervous system. When a pest ingests or comes into contact with the treated plant surface, the active ingredient Chlorantraniliprole binds to these receptors in the insect's muscle cells. This triggers an uncontrolled release of stored calcium from the muscles, causing continuous contraction and paralysis. The pest stops feeding almost immediately—within minutes of ingestion—and dies within 1 to 3 days. Because this mode of action is unique (IRAC Group 28), it is highly effective against pests that have developed resistance to other chemical groups like organophosphates, pyrethroids, or neonicotinoids.

Recommended Dosage & Application
| Crop | Target Pests | Dose (ml/acre) | Water (L/acre) | Dose (ml/litre) | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rice (Paddy) | Yellow Stem Borer, Leaf Folder | 60 ml | 200 L | 0.3 ml | 47 |
| Cotton | American Bollworm, Spotted Bollworm, Tobacco Caterpillar | 60 ml | 200 L | 0.3 ml | 9 |

| Sugarcane (Spray) | Termites, Early Shoot Borer, Top Borer | 150–250 ml | 400 L | 0.4 ml | 208 |
Note: For a standard 15-litre knapsack sprayer, use 6 ml of Mission SC per pump for rice and cotton crops. For sugarcane, use approximately 6 ml per 15 litres of water.
When to Use
Apply IIL Mission SC at the early stages of pest infestation for best results. For rice, apply during active tillering stage when stem borer or leaf folder damage is first noticed. For cotton, apply at square formation stage when bollworm activity begins. For vegetables, apply as soon as fruit borer or DBM larvae are observed on the crop. Early application prevents pest buildup and protects yield more effectively than waiting for heavy infestation. Avoid application during heavy rainfall or extreme heat. The product is rainfast within 2 hours of application, so light rain after spraying will not reduce effectiveness.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required amount of clean water. Add the measured dose of Mission SC and stir well. Add the remaining water and mix thoroughly.
- Check water quality: Avoid mixing with highly alkaline water (pH above 8). If using borewell water, consider using a pH buffer for best results.
- Spray evenly: Apply the solution as a foliar spray ensuring thorough coverage of the entire plant, especially the stem, leaves, and fruiting parts where borers and caterpillars feed.
- Timing of spray: Apply in the morning or late afternoon when temperatures are moderate and wind is low. Avoid spraying during peak heat or windy conditions.
- Post-application: Wash the spray equipment thoroughly after use. Do not drain leftover spray solution into water bodies.
- Follow PHI: Respect the pre-harvest interval for each crop before harvesting.
Compatibility
IIL Mission SC is physically compatible with most common fungicides such as Propiconazole and Azoxystrobin, allowing farmers to control both borers and fungal diseases in a single spray. However, avoid mixing with highly alkaline substances or water with pH above 8. If mixing with other products, always perform a small jar test before large-scale use. Do not mix with any product not recommended on the label.
Precautions & Safety
- PPE: Always wear gloves, mask, and goggles while handling and spraying the product.
- Hygiene: Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after use. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during application.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and children. Keep the container tightly closed.
- Environmental safety: Do not spray near water bodies, ponds, or streams. Prevent drift to non-target crops and flowering weeds visited by bees.
- Silkworm warning: Mission SC is highly toxic to silkworms. Strictly avoid use near mulberry plantations or sericulture areas.
- Disposal: Do not reuse empty containers. Dispose of them safely as per local regulations.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
