IIL Nayak is a broad-spectrum insecticide from Insecticides (India) Ltd (IIL) containing Alpha-cypermethrin 10% EC. Alpha-cypermethrin is a highly purified synthetic pyrethroid that provides fast and effective control against a wide range of chewing and biting insect pests. It is formulated as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC), a liquid formulation that mixes easily with water for foliar spray application.

Nayak is designed for use on major Indian crops including Cotton, Rice, and Vegetables. It targets key pests such as bollworms, leaf folders, stem borers, shoot and fruit borers, caterpillars, beetles, thrips, aphids, and jassids. The product works through both contact and stomach action, providing an immediate knockdown effect that stops pests from feeding and damaging the crop.

This insecticide is known for its long-lasting residual activity of 7 to 10 days, reducing the need for frequent re-spraying. It requires a low dose per acre compared to older chemicals, making it a cost-effective choice for small and marginal farmers. The EC formulation sticks well to foliage and remains effective under varying field temperatures. IIL Nayak is classified under IRAC MoA Group 3A (Sodium Channel Modulator) and belongs to the Synthetic Pyrethroid (Type II) chemical group. It carries a Yellow/Blue Triangle toxicity label, indicating it is moderately hazardous, and proper safety precautions must be followed during use.

Key Benefits

  • Instant knockdown action: Stops pests immediately upon contact. The pest stops feeding right away, saving your crop from further damage.
  • Dual action protection: Works through both contact (touch) and stomach (ingestion) action. It also repels pests, preventing them from laying new eggs.
  • Long-lasting control: Provides reliable protection for 7 to 10 days, reducing the need for frequent re-spraying and saving labour costs.
  • Weather stable formula: The high-quality EC formulation sticks well to leaves and remains effective even in varying field temperatures.
  • Low dosage requirement: Requires a small amount per acre compared to older chemicals, making it economical and cost-effective for farmers.
  • Broad-spectrum effectiveness: Controls a wide range of pests including caterpillars, bollworms, leaf folders, stem borers, shoot borers, fruit borers, jassids, beetles, thrips, aphids, and whiteflies.
  • Crop safety: Safe for a variety of crops when used as per recommended dosage and directions.

How It Works

IIL Nayak targets the nervous system of insects. It is a non-systemic insecticide, meaning it does not travel inside the plant. Instead, it works through direct contact and stomach action.

Step 1 - Penetration: The EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate) formulation dissolves the waxy outer layer of the insect's body, allowing the active ingredient to enter immediately upon contact.

Step 2 - Nerve Attack: Once inside, Alpha-cypermethrin binds to sodium channels in the insect's nerve cells and keeps them open. This causes continuous nerve firing, similar to repeated electric shocks, disrupting the insect's nervous system.

Step 3 - Paralysis & Death: The insect loses coordination, suffers paralysis (known as "knockdown"), and eventually dies from starvation or dehydration. The feeding stops almost immediately after contact, which protects the crop from further damage.

Nayak is more effective in cooler temperatures, so early morning or late evening sprays give the best results. Since it is not systemic, thorough spray coverage of all plant parts is essential for effective pest control.

PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval): The minimum number of days to wait between the last spray and harvesting the crop.

Application Method: Apply as a foliar spray using appropriate spraying equipment. Ensure thorough coverage of all plant parts, especially the undersides of leaves and folded leaves where pests may hide.

When to Use

Apply IIL Nayak at the onset of pest infestation or as soon as you see pest activity in the field. The best time to spray is when the pest population crosses the economic threshold level — meaning when you start seeing larvae or visible damage on the crop.

Best time of day: Spray during early morning or late evening hours. Nayak is more effective in cooler temperatures, and evening sprays are safer for beneficial insects like bees that are active during the day.

For preventive use: If pest attacks are common in your area during a particular season, you can apply Nayak as a preventive measure before the infestation becomes severe.

For curative use: Apply immediately after noticing pest damage on leaves, stems, or fruits. The fast knockdown action will stop the pests from causing further damage.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Check pest level: Inspect your field to confirm pest presence and infestation level before spraying.
  2. Calculate required quantity: Measure the exact amount of Nayak needed based on your crop and area (refer to dosage table above).
  3. Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the measured quantity of Nayak. Mix well. Add the remaining water and stir again to ensure uniform mixing.
  4. Spray application: Apply the mixture as a foliar spray using a knapsack sprayer or power sprayer. Ensure thorough coverage of all plant parts — stems, leaves (both upper and lower surfaces), and growing points.
  5. For leaf folders in rice: Ensure the spray penetrates the folded leaves where the pests hide.
  6. Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly wash all spraying equipment with clean water. Do not dispose of wash water near water bodies.
  7. Post-application care: Do not enter the sprayed field until the spray mist has dried. Follow the PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval) before harvesting.

Compatibility

Do not mix IIL Nayak with alkaline products such as Bordeaux mixture or Lime Sulfur, as they will break down the chemical and reduce its effectiveness. If mixing with other products is needed, always do a small jar test first to check for any adverse reactions like clumping, settling, or colour change.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, a mask, and goggles while handling and spraying Nayak. Wear full-sleeve clothing and boots to avoid skin contact.
  • Avoid contact: Do not let the spray solution come in contact with your skin, eyes, or clothing. If accidental contact occurs, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water.
  • Do not spray in wind: Avoid spraying during windy conditions to prevent spray drift to non-target areas and neighbouring crops.
  • Keep away from water bodies: Nayak is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Do not spray near ponds, rivers, or wells. Do not wash equipment in water bodies.
  • Bee safety: Nayak is toxic to bees. Do not spray during active bee foraging hours (daytime). Spray in the evening when bees are less active.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Hygiene: Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after handling or spraying. Do not eat, drink, or smoke during application.

Side Effects & Phytotoxicity

Nayak (Alpha-cypermethrin) may cause a temporary tingling or burning sensation on the skin (paresthesia) upon contact. If this occurs, wash the affected area with soap and water. Do not apply oil or cream on the affected area as it may worsen the sensation. This effect is temporary and subsides on its own.

Nayak is toxic to fish, bees, and aquatic organisms. Take necessary precautions to avoid spray drift to water bodies and flowering crops during bee activity hours.
