How It Works
Prism acts as a "pro-drug" — meaning the active ingredient Thiophanate Methyl is not the final disease-killing compound itself. Once the fungicide is absorbed by the plant through leaves or roots, it converts inside the plant tissue into Carbendazim (also known as MBC - Methyl Benzimidazole Carbamate), which is the actual compound that kills the fungus.
This conversion happens naturally inside the plant. Once converted, Carbendazim binds to the tubulin proteins in the fungal cells. Tubulin proteins are essential for the fungus to divide and multiply. By binding to these proteins, Prism effectively stops cell division (mitosis) in the fungus. Without the ability to divide and grow, the fungal infection cannot spread to new plant tissue, and the existing infection eventually dies out.
Because Prism moves systemically through the plant's xylem (water-conducting tissue), it travels upward from the roots or sprayed leaves to protect new shoots and leaves that emerge after application. This systemic movement is what makes Prism effective even on parts of the plant that were not directly sprayed. The fungicide also prevents fungal spores from germinating on the plant surface, providing a protective barrier against new infections.

Recommended Dosage & Application
The standard dosage for Prism is 250 grams per acre for foliar spray, mixed in 150–200 litres of water. For other application methods, the dosage may vary. Always follow the "dose per acre" for accurate results, as water volume may change based on spray equipment and crop stage.

When to Use
Prism is most effective when used as a preventive measure — applied before disease symptoms appear, especially during periods when weather conditions favour fungal growth (high humidity, rainfall, or moderate temperatures). For best results, apply at the very first sign of disease infection.
For apples, apply at the pre-flowering stage to protect against apple scab and powdery mildew. For grapes, apply before fruit setting to control powdery mildew and anthracnose. On papaya and bottle gourd, apply during the vegetative to flowering stage when disease pressure is high. For tomatoes, apply during early growth stages to prevent leaf spot and anthracnose.
Avoid spraying if rain is expected within 2 hours of application. The product is rainfast within 2–4 hours after spraying due to quick absorption. To prevent the development of fungicide resistance, do not use Prism more than 2–3 times per season. Rotate with fungicides from different chemical groups (such as Mancozeb or Triazoles) for long-term effectiveness.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Wear protective gear: Put on gloves, mask, and goggles before handling the product.
- Prepare the mixture (creaming method): Since Prism is a Wettable Powder (WP), first mix the required amount of powder with a small amount of water in a separate container to make a smooth, lump-free paste.
- Add to spray tank: Pour this paste into the spray tank filled with the required amount of clean water. Stir well to ensure even mixing.
- Use proper nozzle: Use a hollow cone nozzle for a fine, uniform mist. Ensure full coverage of all plant parts, especially the undersides of leaves.
- Apply at right time: Spray during cool hours — early morning or late evening. Avoid spraying in direct sunlight or when rain is expected within 2 hours.
- Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly wash all spray equipment with clean water. Do not dispose of wash water in ponds, rivers, or water bodies.
Compatibility
Prism is compatible with most commonly used insecticides and plant growth regulators. However, it should NEVER be mixed with copper-based fungicides (such as Bordeaux mixture, Copper Oxychloride) or highly alkaline solutions (such as Lime Sulfur), as these can reduce the effectiveness of the fungicide. If mixing with other products for the first time, it is advisable to do a small jar test to check for any adverse reactions before large-scale application.
