IIL Rimjhim is a powerful combination insecticide from Insecticides (India) Limited, formulated as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) containing Ethion 40% and Cypermethrin 5%. This dual-action product is designed to tackle complex pest attacks where both chewing pests like bollworms and sucking pests like whiteflies and mites appear together on the same crop. Instead of mixing separate chemicals, farmers get a ready-to-use pre-mix that saves time, effort, and money.
Rimjhim belongs to two different chemical groups — Organophosphate (Ethion - IRAC Group 1B) and Synthetic Pyrethroid (Cypermethrin - IRAC Group 3A). This combination works on the insect's nervous system from two different angles, making it highly effective and also helping to manage pest resistance. The product is especially useful for Cotton, Chilli, Brinjal, other Vegetables, Pulses, and Tea where mixed pest infestations are common.
Rimjhim acts as both a contact poison and a stomach poison. It provides quick knockdown of active pests while also offering residual protection. The Ethion component adds acaricidal (mite-killing) action, which is a key advantage over plain pyrethroid sprays that can sometimes cause mite flare-ups. Farmers get broad-spectrum control of bollworms, sucking pests, and mites in a single spray application.
Key Benefits
- Controls mixed pest attacks: Kills both chewing pests (bollworms, fruit borers) and sucking pests (whiteflies, thrips, mites) in one spray — no need for separate insecticides and miticides.
- Quick knockdown effect: Cypermethrin provides an immediate shock effect, stopping pest feeding and damage within minutes of application.
- Mite control built-in: Unlike ordinary pyrethroids that can cause mite flare-ups, the Ethion component actively kills mites, giving complete protection.
- Resistance management: Two different modes of action (Group 1B + Group 3A) make it harder for pests to develop resistance. Ethion also shields Cypermethrin by occupying the pest's detoxification enzymes.
- Rainfast after 3-4 hours: The EC formulation penetrates leaf surfaces quickly, requiring only a short rain-free window for effective results.
- Cost-effective solution: Eliminates the need for tank-mixing separate products, saving money per acre compared to using multiple chemicals.
- Long-lasting protection: Provides residual control for up to 15 days depending on crop and pest pressure.
How It Works
Rimjhim attacks the insect's nervous system using two different mechanisms simultaneously, which is why it is so effective against resistant and mixed pest populations.
Cypermethrin (Group 3A - Pyrethroid): It targets the sodium channels in the nerve axons of insects. It keeps these channels open, causing the nerves to fire continuously and uncontrollably. This leads to immediate paralysis, tremors, and a rapid "knockdown" effect. The pest stops feeding almost instantly after contact.
Ethion (Group 1B - Organophosphate): It inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE) at the synaptic cleft. This enzyme is responsible for "switching off" nerve signals after they have been sent. When Ethion blocks this enzyme, nerve signals keep firing without stopping, causing convulsions, tremors, and eventually death.
Synergistic effect: Ethion also acts as a "bodyguard" for Cypermethrin. It occupies the detoxification enzymes inside the pest's body that would normally break down Cypermethrin. This allows Cypermethrin to stay active longer and deliver a stronger lethal effect, especially against pests that have developed some level of resistance to pyrethroids.
The result is a fast-acting, dual-mechanism attack that stops feeding immediately and leads to pest death within hours. Because two different nerve targets are hit at once, pests find it very difficult to survive or develop resistance.

Recommended Dosage & Application
The Golden Rule: Always follow the dose per acre for accurate results. Dilution ratios can vary, but the amount of insecticide applied per acre must remain constant.
| Crop | Dose (ml/Acre) | Water (L/Acre) | Dose (ml/Litre) | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton | 400 - 500 ml | 200 - 500 L | 2.0 - 2.5 ml | 15 |
| Chilli & Vegetables | 400 - 600 ml | 200 - 500 L | 2.0 - 2.5 ml | 10 - 15 |
| Pulses | 400 - 500 ml | 200 - 400 L | 2.0 - 2.5 ml | 15 - 20 |
PHI = Pre-Harvest Interval: Minimum number of days to wait between the last spray and harvesting.
When to Use
Apply Rimjhim when pest populations reach the Economic Threshold Level (ETL). For cotton, this is typically when you see 5-10% damage to fruiting bodies or 5-10 mites per leaf. For vegetables and pulses, apply at the first signs of pest infestation or when damage is noticed on flowers, pods, or fruits.
The product is most effective when used early in the pest cycle before populations become severe. Avoid spraying during hot mid-day hours as high temperatures can reduce effectiveness and increase safety risks. Early morning or late evening application is recommended. For bee safety, avoid spraying during active flowering periods or when bees are foraging — spray in the late evening to protect pollinators.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Fill tank halfway: Fill your spray tank with clean water up to about half the required volume.
- Add the dose: Measure the required amount of Rimjhim using a clean measuring cup. Add it to the half-filled tank.
- Mix thoroughly: Stir or agitate the mixture well until a milky-white emulsion forms.
- Fill rest of tank: Add the remaining water while continuing to agitate.
- Spray immediately: Apply the mixture within a few hours of preparation. Do not store the diluted spray solution.
- Coverage is key: Ensure good coverage of the underside of leaves where mites, whiteflies, and hidden pests reside. Use adequate water volume (minimum 200 litres per acre) for thorough coverage.
- Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly wash all spray equipment with clean water. Do not dispose of wash water near water bodies.
Compatibility
Rimjhim is compatible with most common fungicides like Mancozeb and Carbendazim. However, do NOT mix with alkaline products such as Bordeaux mixture or Lime Sulphur, as alkaline conditions can break down the active ingredients and reduce effectiveness. Always perform a jar test before mixing with any new product for the first time.
Precautions & Safety
- PPE is mandatory: Always wear gloves, mask, and goggles while handling and spraying this product. Wear full-sleeve clothing and boots.
- Do not eat or drink: Never eat, drink, or smoke while handling or spraying the insecticide.
- Wash thoroughly: Wash hands, face, and all exposed skin with soap and water immediately after spraying.
- Keep away from children and animals: Store in a locked, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water.
- Environmental caution: This product is toxic to fish and aquatic life. Do not use near water bodies, ponds, or drainage channels.
- Bee toxicity: Toxic to bees. Avoid spraying during flowering or when bees are active. Spray in late evening.
- First aid: In case of accidental poisoning, seek immediate medical attention. Specific antidotes are Atropine Sulphate and 2-PAM. Show the product label or bottle to the doctor. Do not induce vomiting without medical supervision due to solvent risks.
