Key Benefits
- Provides quick knockdown and long-lasting control of major sucking pests like aphids, jassids, whiteflies, thrips, and tea mosquito bug
- Systemic action protects the entire plant, including new growth and underside of leaves where pests often hide
- Triple-action control works as ovicidal, larvicidal, and adulticidal — targeting pests at egg, young, and adult stages
- Effective against insect populations that have developed resistance to other classes of insecticides
- Relatively safe for beneficial insects, making it suitable for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs
- Easy-to-use water-soluble powder formulation dissolves quickly and mixes well for foliar spray application
- Not phytotoxic on crops when used at recommended doses, ensuring plant safety
How It Works
IIL Sharp contains Acetamiprid 20% SP, an active ingredient from the neonicotinoid group of insecticides. It works as a systemic insecticide, meaning once applied as a foliar spray, the plant absorbs the chemical and transports it through its tissues to all parts — including new shoots, leaves, and even the undersides where sucking pests typically feed.
When pests like aphids, jassids, whiteflies, or thrips feed on the treated plant, they ingest the active ingredient. Acetamiprid then acts on their nervous system by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This disrupts normal nerve function, leading to paralysis and eventually death of the pest. The product works through both contact action (when spray directly hits the pest) and ingestion action (when pest feeds on treated plant parts).
One of the key strengths of IIL Sharp is its triple mode of action — it has ovicidal (kills eggs), larvicidal (kills young larvae/nymphs), and adulticidal (kills adult insects) properties. This means it can break the pest life cycle at multiple stages, providing more complete and lasting control. Its strong translaminar action allows the product to move through the leaf from the upper surface to the lower surface, reaching pests that are difficult to target with contact-only sprays.

When to Use
Apply IIL Sharp when you first notice signs of sucking pest infestation on your crop. Look for early symptoms such as curling leaves, yellowing, stunted growth, sticky honeydew secretion, or visible clusters of aphids, jassids, whiteflies, or thrips on the underside of leaves. Early intervention at the initial stage of pest attack gives the best results and prevents the pest population from building up.
For best results, apply during the morning hours or late afternoon when temperatures are moderate and beneficial insect activity is lower. Avoid spraying during peak heat hours or when strong winds are blowing, as this can reduce spray coverage and effectiveness. If rain is expected, ensure the spray has at least 4 hours of dry weather to become rainfast.
In crops like cotton, chilli, and vegetables, monitor regularly during the vegetative and flowering stages when sucking pest pressure is typically highest. For tea, apply when tea mosquito bug infestation is observed. In citrus, apply during flushing periods when citrus psylla is active. Repeat application may be needed based on pest pressure and duration of control, following the recommended intervals.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Check pest infestation: Inspect your crop thoroughly. Look for sucking pests on the underside of leaves, new shoots, and flower buds. Apply only when pest levels cross the economic threshold.
- Calculate required quantity: Measure the correct dosage based on your crop and area. For general use, mix 0.5 g per litre of water or 8 g per 15-litre spray pump.
- Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the measured quantity of IIL Sharp powder and stir well until fully dissolved. Add the remaining water and mix thoroughly.
- Wear protective gear: Put on full protective clothing including gloves, mask, goggles, and covered footwear before handling or spraying.
- Apply as foliar spray: Spray evenly on the crop, ensuring good coverage of both upper and lower leaf surfaces where pests hide. Use a well-maintained sprayer with proper nozzle pressure.
- Clean up after spraying: Wash spray equipment thoroughly with clean water after use. Wash hands, face, and any exposed skin with soap and water. Wash contaminated clothing separately.
- Observe rainfast period: Ensure at least 4 hours of dry weather after application for best results. If rain occurs within 4 hours, consider reapplication if needed.
Compatibility
IIL Sharp (Acetamiprid 20% SP) is compatible with commonly used insecticides and fungicides. However, it is always recommended to conduct a small jar test before mixing with other products on a commercial scale. Do not mix with highly alkaline substances. When tank-mixing, follow the correct mixing order: fill tank with water first, add wettable powders first, then emulsifiable concentrates, and adjuvants last while maintaining continuous agitation.
Precautions & Safety
- Keep away from children, foodstuffs, empty food containers, and animal feed
- Avoid contact with mouth, eyes, and skin. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water
- Avoid inhaling spray mist. Always spray in the direction of the wind
- Do not smoke, drink, eat, or chew anything while mixing or spraying
- Wear full protective clothing (gloves, mask, goggles, apron, boots) while mixing and spraying
- Wash thoroughly all contaminated clothes and body parts after spraying
- Do not spray near fish culture ponds or water bodies
- Avoid spraying when bees are actively foraging — apply during early morning or late evening
- Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight, in original container
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
IIL Sharp is not phytotoxic on any crops when used at the recommended doses and application methods. However, always follow the recommended dosage and do not exceed the specified application rate to avoid any risk of crop stress.
