IIL Shinwa is a broad-spectrum insecticide from Insecticides India Limited, powered by Fluxametamide 10% EC – a novel active ingredient from the isoxazoline (meta-diamide) chemical group. It is designed to provide effective control of tough pests like thrips, lepidopteran larvae (caterpillars), leaf miners, and other sucking and chewing insects in high-value vegetable and pulse crops. Shinwa works through a unique mode of action that targets the pest's nervous system differently from older chemicals, making it a reliable option where pests have developed resistance to common insecticides like diamides, organophosphates, and pyrethroids.
The formulation is an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) that mixes easily with water and offers translaminar movement – meaning it penetrates the leaf surface to reach pests hiding on the underside or inside curled leaves. It also provides excellent rainfastness, becoming resistant to wash-off within 2 to 4 hours after spraying. Shinwa is effective across a wide temperature range and is suitable for use in both hot and cooler conditions. It carries a Blue Triangle toxicity label (moderately toxic) and is classified under IRAC Group 30 (GABA-gated chloride channel antagonist).
Key Benefits
- Rapid knockdown action – Stops pest feeding soon after contact, reducing further crop damage quickly.
- Resistance breaker (IRAC Group 30) – Effectively controls pests that have developed resistance to diamides, organophosphates, and pyrethroids.
- Translaminar activity – Penetrates leaf tissue to kill hidden pests like thrips and leaf miners that stay on the underside of leaves.
- Excellent rainfastness – Becomes rainproof within 2–4 hours, so sudden showers do not wash away the spray.
- Broad-spectrum control – Targets both sucking pests (thrips, leaf hoppers, aphids, whiteflies) and chewing pests (fruit borers, diamondback moth, tobacco caterpillar, semilooper).
- Effective in high and low temperatures – Performs reliably across varying weather conditions.
- Easy to apply – EC formulation mixes smoothly with water for hassle-free foliar spraying.
How It Works
Shinwa contains Fluxametamide, which acts as an antagonist of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) and glutamate-gated chloride channels in the insect's nervous system. Unlike many conventional insecticides that open these channels, Shinwa blocks them. This prevents calming chloride ions from entering the nerve cells, causing the pest's nervous system to become over-excited and lock up. The result is immediate convulsions, paralysis, and death of the target pest.
Because this mode of action (IRAC Group 30) is different from diamides (Group 28), organophosphates, and pyrethroids, Shinwa is highly effective against pest populations that have developed resistance to those chemical classes. The translaminar movement of the product ensures that even pests hiding beneath the leaf surface or inside plant tissues are reached and controlled.

For a 15-litre knapsack sprayer: Add approximately 16 ml of Shinwa per tank.
For drone application (ULV): 160 ml per acre in 10 litres of water (16 ml per litre). PHI: 7 days.
When to Use
Apply Shinwa when the target pest infestation is first noticed – at the Economic Threshold Level (ETL). For thrips, this is typically when you see 5–10 thrips per leaf. For borers, apply at the first signs of damage. Do not use Shinwa as a routine preventative spray; it is designed as a curative solution when pests appear.
The best time to spray is early morning or late afternoon on a non-windy day. This helps ensure good coverage and reduces spray drift. Shinwa is effective in both high and low temperature conditions, so it can be used across different seasons.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare: Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) – gloves, mask, safety goggles, and full-sleeve clothing before handling the product.
- Measure: Take the recommended dose of Shinwa (160 ml per acre or 0.8 ml per litre of water).
- Mix: Fill the spray tank with half the required water. Add the measured Shinwa and stir well. Then add the remaining water and mix thoroughly.
- Spray: Apply as a uniform foliar spray covering all parts of the crop, especially the underside of leaves where pests hide. Use a knapsack, battery, or power sprayer with a flat fan nozzle for proper coverage.
- Timing: Spray in the early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are lower and wind is minimal.
- Post-spray: Do not enter the sprayed field until the spray has dried. Wash hands, face, and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after spraying.
- Wait period: Observe the pre-harvest interval (PHI) of 5 days for most vegetables and 10 days for pulses before harvesting.
Compatibility
Shinwa is compatible with commonly used insecticides and fungicides. For whitefly control in chilli, a tank mix of Shinwa + Flonicamid is often used effectively. Always ensure thorough agitation when mixing. Avoid mixing with highly alkaline fungicides such as Bordeaux mixture. It is recommended to conduct a jar test before mixing with any new product and follow label instructions.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear gloves, mask, safety goggles, and full-sleeve clothing while handling and spraying.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or applying the product.
- Avoid spraying on windy days to prevent spray drift to non-target areas.
- Avoid direct contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
- Keep out of reach of children, pets, and livestock.
- Shinwa is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Avoid spraying near fish ponds, water bodies, or aquaculture areas.
- Wash hands, face, and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after spraying.
- In case of accidental ingestion, inhalation, or eye exposure, seek immediate medical attention. Treat symptoms supportively as no specific antidote is available.
