Judo Plus is a powerful, broad-spectrum insecticide from Crystal Crop Protection that contains Lambda-Cyhalothrin 5% EC as its active ingredient. It belongs to the synthetic pyrethroid group (Type II) and is designed for farmers who need fast and effective control when pest infestations are already active in the field. With double the strength of standard Lambda-Cyhalothrin formulations, Judo Plus acts as a strong knockdown agent against both chewing pests like bollworms and sucking pests like jassids, thrips, and hoppers across a wide range of crops including cotton, rice, vegetables, pulses, and oilseeds.
The product works through contact and stomach modes of action, meaning it kills pests when the spray directly touches them and also when they feed on treated plant parts. Judo Plus disrupts the nervous system of insects by binding to sodium channels in nerve cells, causing continuous nerve firing that leads to rapid paralysis, feeding stoppage, and death. It also has a repellent effect that discourages new pests from settling on the crop. The emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulation ensures good coverage and sticking on leaf surfaces, providing protection that lasts in the field. Judo Plus is classified under toxicity label Yellow (handle with care) and is suitable for use when pest populations cross economic threshold levels.
Key Benefits
- Instant knockdown action: Rapidly paralyses pests upon contact, stopping crop damage immediately within minutes of application.
- Dual mode of action: Works through both contact (direct spray) and stomach (ingestion of treated plant parts) for thorough pest control.
- Broad-spectrum control: Effectively controls bollworms, sucking pests (jassids, thrips, hoppers), leaf miners, mites, and stem borers in multiple crops.
- Double strength formulation: Contains 5% Lambda-Cyhalothrin, making it twice as potent as standard 2.5% formulations for tackling heavy infestations.
- Long-lasting protection: Remains active on leaf surfaces, reducing the need for frequent repeat sprays.
- Bonus mite control: Also kills red and yellow mites (acaricidal property), saving the cost of a separate miticide spray.
- Repellent effect: Discourages new pests and moths from landing on treated crops, providing additional crop protection.
How It Works
Judo Plus targets the central nervous system of insects through a specific mechanism. As a Type II synthetic pyrethroid and Sodium Channel Modulator (IRAC Group 3A), the active ingredient Lambda-Cyhalothrin enters the pest's body either through direct contact with the spray droplets or when the pest feeds on treated leaves and plant surfaces. Once inside, the chemical binds to the sodium channels present in the insect's nerve cells and keeps them permanently open. This prevents the nerves from returning to their normal resting state, causing continuous and uncontrolled firing of nerve signals. The insect first becomes hyperactive with visible tremors and uncoordinated movements, then quickly becomes paralysed, stops feeding entirely, and eventually dies from nervous system failure or starvation. The EC (emulsifiable concentrate) formulation helps the chemical penetrate the insect's outer shell (cuticle) rapidly because of its oil-loving nature. Additionally, Judo Plus has a strong anti-feedant and repellent property, meaning pests avoid feeding on treated crops because the chemical irritates them, providing an extra layer of protection even before direct contact occurs.

When to Use
Apply Judo Plus when pest populations cross the Economic Threshold Level (ETL) in your field. This means you should start scouting your crop regularly and spray as soon as you notice pest numbers reaching a level where they can cause significant economic damage. The product is most effective against small larvae, nymphs, and adult stages of insects. For best results, spray in the early morning or late evening hours when temperatures are cooler. Avoid spraying during peak afternoon heat as high temperatures can cause the chemical to evaporate before it settles on the leaves. Late evening spraying is also recommended to protect honey bees and other beneficial pollinators, as Lambda-Cyhalothrin is toxic to bees. Ensure there is no rain expected for at least 2-4 hours after spraying to allow the chemical to dry and stick properly on the plant surface.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required amount of clean water. Start the agitation.
- Measure the correct dose: Use the dosage table above to measure the exact quantity of Judo Plus needed for your crop and acreage. Do not under-dose as this can lead to pest resistance.
- Add Judo Plus to the tank last: Pour the measured quantity of Judo Plus into the tank. Add the remaining water while continuing agitation to ensure proper mixing.
- Use a hollow cone nozzle: Fit a hollow cone nozzle on your sprayer to create a fine mist that can penetrate the leaf canopy and reach the undersides of leaves where pests hide.
- Spray thoroughly: Ensure complete coverage of all plant parts including stems, leaves (both upper and lower surfaces), and growing points. Pay special attention to areas where pests are concentrated.
- Clean equipment after use: Rinse the spray tank and nozzles thoroughly with clean water after spraying. Do not dispose of rinse water near water bodies.
- Wear PPE during application: Always wear gloves, a mask, and goggles while mixing and spraying. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after completing the spray.
Compatibility
Judo Plus is compatible with most non-alkaline fungicides and insecticides. However, do not mix Judo Plus with alkaline products such as Bordeaux mixture or Lime Sulfur, as these alkaline substances will instantly destroy the chemical and make the spray ineffective. When tank mixing with other products, always add Judo Plus to the tank last. If compatibility is uncertain, perform a small jar test before mixing large quantities.
Precautions & Safety
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, a mask, and goggles while handling and spraying Judo Plus.
- Skin contact: Lambda-Cyhalothrin can cause temporary tingling, burning, or itching sensation on skin, especially on the face. If this happens, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water immediately. Applying Vitamin E oil can help soothe the sensation, which usually fades within 24 hours.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while mixing or spraying the product.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and drinking water. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Environmental safety: Do not spray near water bodies, ponds, or rivers as the product is toxic to aquatic life. Avoid spray drift to neighbouring crops.
- Bee safety: Do not spray during flowering when bees are actively foraging. Spray in late evening after bees have returned to their hives.
- Disposal: Do not reuse empty containers for any purpose. Dispose of them safely as per local guidelines.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
Lambda-Cyhalothrin can cause temporary skin sensations (tingling, burning, or numbness) if it comes in contact with the skin, particularly on sensitive areas like the face. This is a known reaction to synthetic pyrethroids and is not an allergic reaction. Wash the area with soap and water; the sensation typically resolves within 24 hours. The product is toxic to honey bees and aquatic organisms. Avoid spraying during crop flowering periods when bees are active, and prevent spray drift from reaching water bodies.
