Saffire Paralite is a broad-spectrum, non-selective contact herbicide formulated with Paraquat Dichloride 24% SL (Soluble Liquid). It is designed to quickly control a wide range of annual and perennial grassy weeds, broadleaf weeds, and sedges in one application. The product works on contact with green plant tissue, disrupting the photosynthesis process and causing rapid drying, wilting, and death of unwanted vegetation. Farmers typically notice visible results within a few hours of spraying, making it a fast and reliable solution for field and plantation clearance.
This herbicide is suitable for use in many crops including tea, cotton, potato, grape, rubber, sugarcane, sunflower, rice, wheat, maize, and apple. It is especially useful in conservation and no-till farming systems because it only controls the foliage parts of weeds while leaving the roots intact. This helps maintain soil structure and prevents erosion. Paralite can be used as a post-emergence directed spray or pre-plant application in many crops. The soluble liquid formulation leaves no visible residue on the surface, ensuring clean produce.
Because Paraquat Dichloride is a highly toxic compound, Paralite must be handled with strict safety precautions. It is a non-selective herbicide, meaning it will damage or kill any green plant tissue it touches. Always use it as a directed spray on weeds only, keeping the spray away from the leaves, stems, and fruits of the main crop. Store it safely away from children, food, and water sources, and follow the label instructions carefully for best results and safety.
Key Benefits
- Non-selective weed control: Kills all types of harmful weeds, including grasses, broadleaf weeds, and sedges, in a single application.
- Fast action: Penetrates weed foliage quickly and shows visible results within a few hours after spraying under bright sunlight.
- Complete removal: Ensures effective clearance of unwanted vegetation from fields, plantations, bunds, and non-crop areas.
- Reduces labour cost: Eliminates the need for manual weeding, saving farmers both time and effort in the field.
- No soil residue: Becomes biologically inactive after contact with soil, making it safe for subsequent cropping.
- Soil-friendly for no-till farming: Controls only the foliage while keeping roots intact, helping prevent soil erosion and maintain soil structure.
- Flexible application: Can be used for pre-plant, post-emergence directed, and inter-row applications across multiple crops.
How It Works
Saffire Paralite contains Paraquat Dichloride 24% SL, which belongs to the Bipyridylium chemical class (HRAC Group 22 / PS I Inhibitor). It is a contact herbicide, meaning it only acts on the parts of the plant it directly touches. When sprayed on weed foliage, the active ingredient is absorbed by the green plant tissue with some limited translocation in the xylem.
Once inside the plant cells, it disrupts the photosynthesis process by producing superoxide radicals. These highly reactive molecules damage the cell membranes and cytoplasm of the weed, causing the plant tissue to break down rapidly. This leads to quick drying, wilting, and death of the exposed parts of the weed. Because it is a contact herbicide and does not move extensively within the plant, it works best when applied thoroughly to cover all weed foliage.
The product becomes inactive upon contact with soil, which means it does not leave harmful residues in the ground and allows for safe planting of crops soon after application. Within minutes of application, it gains non-washing properties, so light rain shortly after spraying will not wash it off the treated foliage.

Pump dose: Use 75 to 110 ml of Paralite per 15-litre knapsack pump, depending on the crop and weed pressure.
Frequency: 1 to 2 sprays per season, depending on weed pressure. Perennial weeds may need a second follow-up spray after 20 to 25 days.
When to Use
Saffire Paralite is most effective when applied to actively growing weeds at an early stage. For best results, spray when weeds are young and tender, as the herbicide works by contact with green foliage. Younger weeds at the 2 to 4-leaf stage are easier to kill than mature or woody weeds.
Apply as a post-emergence treatment after weeds have emerged but before they become too mature. The product can be used for pre-plant application to clear fields before sowing, or as a directed spray between crop rows (inter-row application) in established crops.
Late afternoon or early evening is the best window, when leaf temperature is cooler and product absorption is stronger. Spray during bright daylight hours, as sunlight is needed for the herbicide to work quickly. Avoid spraying if rain is expected within 2 to 4 hours after application, and do not spray on windy days to avoid spray drift onto crops or nearby plants.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Check the field: Inspect the weed size and growth stage. Younger weeds (2 to 4-leaf stage) are easier to kill.
- Prepare protective gear: Wear gloves, goggles, a face mask, and full protective clothing before handling the product.
- Measure the correct dose: Check the crop-wise dosage table above and measure the required amount of Paralite using a marked cup or syringe.
- Mix with water: Half-fill the spray tank with clean water and pour in the measured product slowly. Add the remaining water and stir until the solution looks uniform. For a standard 15-litre knapsack sprayer, use 100 ml of product.
- Spray evenly: Use a flat-fan nozzle with a spray hood or shield. Apply the mixture directly onto weed foliage, ensuring thorough coverage of all green parts of the weeds.
- Avoid crop contact: Direct the spray only on weeds. Avoid contact with the main crop, as Paralite is non-selective and can damage any green plant it touches.
- Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly wash all spray equipment with clean water. Do not dispose of wash water near water sources.
- Post-application care: Do not allow children, pets, or livestock to enter the sprayed area until the spray has completely dried.
Compatibility
This herbicide is best used stand-alone. Do NOT tank-mix with insecticides, fungicides, or fertilizers, as it may reduce herbicide activity. Always use a separate sprayer dedicated for herbicide use.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear full protective clothing including hand gloves, face mask, goggles, and long sleeves before handling Paralite, as Paraquat is highly toxic.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke during the entire mixing and spraying operation.
- Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of clean water.
- Do not inhale the spray mist. Use a suitable mask during application.
- Spray only in calm weather conditions to avoid drift onto crops or workers.
- After application, change clothes and take a bath with soap and clean water immediately.
- In case of any exposure or accidental ingestion, contact a physician immediately along with the product label. There is NO known antidote for Paraquat, so speed matters.
- Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Keep away from food, animal feed, and drinking water sources.
- Keep out of reach of children, pets, and livestock. Paralite is highly toxic if ingested.
- Triple rinse empty containers before disposal. Do not reuse containers for any other purpose.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
Saffire Paralite is a non-selective herbicide and will damage or kill any green plant tissue it comes in contact with. It should not be sprayed directly on crop foliage. Use only as a directed spray between rows or before planting. The product becomes biologically inactive upon contact with soil, so there is no residual soil activity that could affect subsequent crops. However, care must be taken to avoid spray drift onto desirable plants. This product is classified with a Yellow toxicity label, indicating moderate toxicity. Handle with caution.
PHI / REI & Storage
- Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): Maintain at least 7 days between the last application and harvest.
- Re-Entry Period (REI): Wait 24 to 48 hours after spraying before re-entering the treated field without protective clothing.
- Storage Temperature: Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.
- Shelf Life: 24 months from the date of manufacture.
- Storage: Keep in the original container with the cap tightly closed. Store away from food, feed, and water sources.
