Rogorin is a broad-spectrum systemic and contact insecticide manufactured by Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL). It contains Dimethoate 30% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate), an organophosphorus compound that belongs to IRAC Group 1B. Rogorin is designed to effectively control a wide range of sucking and chewing pests that damage field crops, vegetables, and fruit orchards.
This insecticide works by being absorbed into the plant and moving through its system, reaching parts of the plant that sprays cannot directly hit. It also kills pests on direct contact. Rogorin targets pests like aphids, jassids, thrips, whiteflies, mites, stem borers, shoot flies, beetles, bugs, and leaf miners. It is suitable for use on crops such as cotton, vegetables (okra, brinjal, tomato, chilli), fruits (mango, banana), maize, mustard, and pulses.
Farmers choose Rogorin for its fast knockdown action, dual mode of action (systemic + contact), and ability to protect new plant growth from hidden pests. It comes with a yellow toxicity label, indicating it is highly toxic and must be handled with proper safety precautions. The product is available in pack sizes of 250 ml, 500 ml, and 1 litre.
Key Benefits
- Dual action control: Works both as a systemic (absorbed inside the plant) and contact insecticide, giving complete protection against pests on the surface and inside plant tissues.
- Fast knockdown effect: Quickly disrupts the nervous system of pests, stopping damage soon after application.
- Long-lasting protection: Systemic movement keeps the active ingredient active inside the plant for an extended period, protecting new growth and controlling hidden pests.
- Broad-spectrum coverage: Controls a wide range of sucking pests (aphids, thrips, jassids, whiteflies, mites) and chewing pests (stem borers, shoot flies, beetles, leaf miners).
- Multi-crop versatility: Can be used on cotton, vegetables, fruits, maize, mustard, and pulses, making it a practical choice for diverse farming needs.
- Deep penetration: Effectively penetrates waxy leaves and plant tissues to reach hidden and protected insects.
- Compatible with many products: Can be mixed with common insecticides and fungicides (except alkaline products) for flexible spray programs.
How It Works
Rogorin contains Dimethoate, an organophosphorus compound that acts as an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. When sprayed on the crop, the chemical is absorbed by the leaves and green tissues of the plant. It then moves upward through the plant's vascular system (xylem) to reach new leaves, shoots, and growing tips.
This systemic movement means that even if the spray does not directly hit every part of the plant, the chemical reaches hidden areas where pests feed. When sucking pests like aphids, jassids, or whiteflies feed on the treated plant sap, they ingest the poison. Similarly, when borers or internal feeders chew on treated plant tissue, the chemical enters their system.
Once inside the pest, Dimethoate blocks the acetylcholinesterase enzyme, which is essential for proper nerve function. This causes a buildup of acetylcholine, leading to overstimulation of the nervous system, paralysis, and rapid death of the pest. Rogorin also works on contact—if the spray droplets land directly on the insect, the chemical is absorbed through the insect's body surface, providing an immediate knockdown effect.

Use the following dosage guidelines based on your crop and pest pressure. Always follow the dose per acre for accurate results.
| Crop | Target Pests | Dose per Acre | Water per Acre | Dose per Litre | PHI (Days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cotton | Aphids, Jassids, Thrips, Whiteflies, Mites | 250 - 300 ml | 200 - 300 litres | 1.5 ml | 14 - 21 |

PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval): The minimum number of days to wait between the last spray and harvesting the crop.
Application method: Foliar spray only. Use a hollow cone nozzle for fine mist and uniform coverage.
When to Use
Apply Rogorin at the first sign of pest infestation. Look for early symptoms such as crinkling or curling of leaves, yellowing, stunted growth, or the presence of honeydew (sticky substance on leaves). Early application gives the best results and prevents pests from multiplying and spreading.
For sucking pests like aphids, jassids, thrips, and whiteflies, spray when you notice the first few insects on the underside of leaves. For borers and shoot flies, apply at the early vegetative stage or when egg-laying activity is observed. For fruit crops, spray before flowering or after fruit set, depending on the pest.
Avoid spraying during the mid-day heat or when the sun is strong, as this can reduce effectiveness and harm beneficial insects like honeybees. The best time for spraying is early morning or late evening. Do not spray when rain is expected or during windy conditions, as this can cause spray drift and reduce coverage.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Check pest level: Inspect your crop thoroughly. Look at the underside of leaves, growing tips, and stems for signs of pest activity.
- Calculate required quantity: Based on your crop and acreage, calculate the exact amount of Rogorin needed using the dosage table above.
- Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required amount of clean water. Add the measured quantity of Rogorin and stir well. Add the remaining water and mix thoroughly.
- Test the sprayer: Ensure your sprayer nozzle is clean and produces a fine mist. Use a hollow cone nozzle for best results.
- Spray evenly: Apply the mixture uniformly over the crop, ensuring good coverage of the underside of leaves and growing points. The systemic action will help reach missed spots.
- Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly clean all spray equipment with water. Do not dispose of leftover mixture or rinse water near water bodies or drainage.
- Observe waiting period: Respect the pre-harvest interval (PHI) for your crop before harvesting. Do not re-enter the field for at least 48 hours after spraying.
Compatibility
Rogorin is compatible with many common insecticides and fungicides, allowing flexibility in spray programs. It can be mixed with Mancozeb and other neutral or acidic products. However, NEVER mix Rogorin with alkaline products such as Bordeaux Mixture or Lime Sulfur, as high pH levels will break down the active ingredient and make it ineffective. Always do a small jar test before mixing with any new product to check for physical compatibility.
Precautions & Safety
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, a face mask, and goggles while handling and spraying Rogorin. Wear full-sleeve clothing and boots.
- During spraying: Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or spraying the product. Avoid inhalation of spray mist.
- After spraying: Wash hands, face, and all exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water. Wash your clothes separately before reusing.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep away from food, animal feed, and drinking water. Store out of reach of children and pets.
- Environmental safety: Do not spray near water bodies, ponds, or wells. Rogorin is toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Avoid drift to non-target areas.
- Honeybee safety: Rogorin is toxic to honeybees. Do not spray during active flowering or when bees are foraging. Spray in the late evening when bees are less active.
- Re-entry interval: Do not re-enter the treated field for at least 48 hours after spraying.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
Rogorin is generally safe for the recommended crops when used at the prescribed dosage. However, as with all organophosphate insecticides, over-application or use under stressed crop conditions (extreme heat, drought, waterlogging) may cause phytotoxicity. Always follow the recommended dose per acre and do not exceed the specified concentration. If uncertain, test on a small area before full-scale application.
