Shark Super is a new-generation combination insecticide from Insecticides India Limited (IIL), formulated with Thiamethoxam 12.6% + Lambda Cyhalothrin 9.5% ZC. This dual-action insecticide is designed to tackle complex pest problems in one spray, making it a practical choice for farmers dealing with mixed infestations of both sucking and chewing pests.

The product uses advanced ZC (Zeon Concentrate) formulation technology — a mixture of Capsule Suspension (CS) and Suspension Concentrate (SC). This micro-encapsulation protects the active ingredients from sunlight (UV) degradation, reduces skin irritation for the handler, and provides excellent rainfastness once dried on the crop. Shark Super belongs to IRAC MoA Group 4A (Neonicotinoid) + Group 3A (Pyrethroid), combining two different modes of action to reduce the risk of pest resistance.

Shark Super is effective on a wide range of crops including Cotton, Maize, Chilli, Tomato, Soybean, and Groundnut. It controls major sucking pests like Jassids, Aphids, Thrips, and Whiteflies, as well as chewing pests like Bollworms, Stem Borers, Fall Armyworm, and Semiloopers. The product carries a Moderate Toxicity label (Blue/Yellow Triangle) and should be handled with standard safety precautions.

Key Benefits

  • Dual-action protection: Combines immediate contact knockdown (Lambda Cyhalothrin) with long-lasting systemic protection (Thiamethoxam) in a single spray.
  • Broad spectrum control: Simultaneously kills sucking pests (Jassids, Aphids, Thrips, Whiteflies) and chewing pests (Bollworms, Stem Borers, Caterpillars).
  • Advanced ZC technology: Micro-encapsulation protects the chemical from UV degradation, reduces skin irritation, and makes handling safer compared to older EC formulations.
  • Excellent rainfastness: The formulation sticks firmly to leaves and becomes rain-resistant within 1-2 hours, making it suitable for monsoon season use.
  • Systemic reach: Thiamethoxam is absorbed by the plant and moves upwards, reaching hidden pests on the underside of leaves and inside leaf buds.
  • Repellent barrier effect: The pyrethroid component discourages new pests from landing on or feeding on the treated crop.
  • Long-lasting residual effect: Provides protection for 10–14 days after application, reducing the need for frequent sprays.

How It Works

Shark Super works through a mechanism called "Functional Synergism," where its two active ingredients attack pests from different angles for complete control.

Thiamethoxam (Systemic Action): This component belongs to the Neonicotinoid group (IRAC Group 4A). Once sprayed, it is rapidly absorbed by the plant and moves upward through the stem to the leaves (acropetal movement). When sucking pests like Aphids, Jassids, or Thrips feed on the treated plant sap, they ingest the toxin. Thiamethoxam then attacks their nervous system, causing hyper-excitation, paralysis, and death. This systemic action ensures that even pests hiding on the underside of leaves or inside leaf folds are reached.

Lambda Cyhalothrin (Contact & Stomach Action): This component belongs to the Synthetic Pyrethroid group (IRAC Group 3A). It stays on the leaf surface and acts as a contact poison. When chewing pests like caterpillars, bollworms, or beetles crawl over the treated surface or eat the treated leaves, Lambda Cyhalothrin attacks the sodium channels in their nerve cells, causing immediate paralysis (knockdown effect) within minutes.

Repellent Effect: The pyrethroid component also acts as an anti-feedant and repellent, discouraging new pests from landing on or feeding on the treated crop. This dual action — killing existing pests instantly while protecting the crop from new attacks — makes Shark Super effective for 10–14 days after application.

When to Use

Apply Shark Super when pests first appear at the Economic Threshold Level (ETL). Early application gives the best results — target young, early-stage larvae for effective control of caterpillars and bollworms.

  • Cotton: Apply at the first sign of Jassids, Aphids, Thrips, or Bollworm egg laying.
  • Maize: For Stem Borer and Fall Armyworm, apply directly into the leaf whorl/funnel. Early-stage treatment is most effective.
  • Chilli & Tomato: Apply when Thrips, Whiteflies, or Fruit Borers are first noticed. These pests can also spread viruses, so timely control is important.
  • Soybean & Groundnut: Apply at the first appearance of Stem Fly, Girdle Beetle, Semilooper, or Leaf Hoppers.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Check the product: Verify that you have the correct Shark Super insecticide (Thiamethoxam + Lambda Cyhalothrin) and not the herbicide with the same name. Check the IIL logo and composition on the label.
  2. Prepare the sprayer: Clean your sprayer tank thoroughly. Fill the tank with half the required amount of clean water.
  3. Mix the chemical: Shake the Shark Super bottle well. Mix the recommended dose in a small amount of water first (pre-mix in a separate container), then add this mixture to the main spray tank.
  4. Agitate well: Stir or agitate the tank mixture thoroughly to ensure even distribution.
  5. Add remaining water: Fill the tank with the remaining water while continuing to agitate.
  6. Spray application: Apply the spray evenly to ensure full coverage of the plant canopy. For sucking pests like Jassids, ensure the spray reaches the underside of leaves. For Maize stem borer, direct the nozzle into the leaf whorl/funnel.
  7. Post-application: Clean the sprayer thoroughly after use. Wash hands and exposed skin with soap and water.

Compatibility

Shark Super is generally compatible with most common fungicides and liquid fertilizers. However, do not mix it with highly alkaline substances such as Bordeaux mixture. Since Shark Super already contains two active ingredients, avoid mixing it with other insecticides to prevent resistance buildup. Always perform a small jar test (physical compatibility test) before mixing with any new product.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, mask, and goggles while handling and spraying. Wear full-sleeved clothing and boots.
  • During application: Avoid inhalation of spray mist. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while spraying.
  • Protect honeybees: This product is toxic to honeybees. Avoid spraying during active flowering when bees are foraging. If application is necessary, spray in the late evening.
  • Environmental safety: Toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Avoid use near water bodies, ponds, or drainage channels. Do not contaminate water sources.
  • After use: Wash hands, face, and all exposed body parts thoroughly with soap and water. Wash contaminated clothing separately before reuse.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from food, feed, and children. Keep in original container with label intact.

Side Effects & Phytotoxicity

  • Lambda Cyhalothrin can cause temporary itching or tingling sensation on the skin (paresthesia). However, Shark Super's ZC technology encapsulates the chemical, significantly reducing this risk compared to older EC formulations.
  • Avoid spraying during extreme heat or when the crop is under moisture stress to prevent any phytotoxicity risk.
