Sulfin Plus is a premium-quality fungicide and miticide from Insecticides (India) Ltd, containing Sulphur 80% WDG (Water Dispersible Granules). It is a versatile, triple-action product that works as a fungicide to control fungal diseases, as a miticide to manage mite infestations, and as a plant nutrient by supplying essential Sulphur to crops. The advanced WDG formulation is dust-free, dissolves instantly in water, and provides excellent coverage on plant foliage without clogging spray equipment.

Sulfin Plus is highly effective against powdery mildew, scab, rust, tikka leaf spot, and mites in a wide range of crops including grapes, apples, mangoes, cumin, groundnut, cowpea, and peas. It acts through contact and vapor action, making it difficult for fungi to develop resistance. The product carries a Green Triangle toxicity label (slightly toxic), making it safer for applicators and suitable for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. It also helps correct Sulphur deficiency in soil, leading to greener leaves, better protein synthesis, and improved oil content in oilseed crops.

Key Benefits

  • Triple-action formula: Works as a fungicide, miticide, and Sulphur nutrient supplement in a single spray, saving time and labour.
  • Advanced WDG technology: Dust-free granules dissolve instantly in water, ensuring uniform spray coverage without lumps or nozzle blockages.
  • Multi-site contact action: Attacks fungus at multiple sites within the cell, making it very difficult for pathogens to develop resistance.
  • Effective against mites: Controls red spider mites and other mite species, especially in grapes and apples, through vapour action that reaches hidden areas.
  • Boosts crop yield and quality: Provides essential Sulphur that improves chlorophyll production, protein synthesis, and oil content in oilseed crops like groundnut.
  • Eco-friendly and bee-safe: Green Triangle label indicates low toxicity; safe for beneficial insects and suitable for IPM programs.
  • Long-lasting protection: Micronized particles (1-8 microns) stick well to leaves, providing extended disease control and reducing the need for frequent sprays.

How It Works

Sulfin Plus works through a unique contact and vapour action mechanism. When sprayed on the crop, the Sulphur particles land on the leaf surface and release vapours that penetrate fungal spores and mite pests, even in hard-to-reach areas like the underside of leaves. Once inside the fungal cell, the Sulphur disrupts the electron transport chain in the mitochondria (the energy powerhouse of the cell), effectively stopping respiration. The fungus then converts the Sulphur into hydrogen sulfide, which is toxic to its own proteins, causing rapid cell death. Because this multi-site action attacks several parts of the fungal cell simultaneously, it is extremely difficult for pathogens to develop resistance against Sulfin Plus. Additionally, the Sulphur that reaches the soil oxidizes into sulfates, which plant roots absorb to produce essential proteins and chlorophyll, providing a nutritional benefit alongside disease control.

Note: For export-quality grapes, stop spraying 30-45 days before harvest to avoid visible residue. For local market consumption, a PHI of 3-7 days is sufficient.

When to Use

Apply Sulfin Plus at the first sign of disease symptoms or as a preventive measure when conditions favour disease development. The ideal time for spraying is during early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Avoid spraying when the temperature exceeds 30°C, as high heat can cause leaf scorching (burning). For best results, ensure thorough coverage of both upper and lower leaf surfaces, especially for mite control. Use a hollow cone nozzle to produce a fine mist for uniform coverage. Apply at the onset of powdery mildew, scab, rust, or mite infestation for maximum effectiveness.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Check the weather: Ensure temperature is below 30°C. Spray in early morning or late evening to avoid leaf burn.
  2. Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required amount of clean water.
  3. Add the granules: Slowly add the required quantity of Sulfin Plus granules to the water while stirring continuously. The granules will disperse quickly.
  4. Mix thoroughly: Add the remaining water and stir well to ensure a uniform suspension.
  5. Spray immediately: Use a hollow cone nozzle for a fine mist. Apply the mixture within a few hours of preparation.
  6. Cover thoroughly: Ensure complete coverage of both upper and lower leaf surfaces. Good coverage is essential for effective mite and disease control.
  7. Clean equipment: After spraying, thoroughly wash all spray equipment with clean water.
  8. Post-application care: Do not enter the sprayed area until the spray solution has dried completely. Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water.

Compatibility

Do NOT mix Sulfin Plus with oil-based formulations such as emulsifiable concentrates (EC), neem oil, or mineral oil. Mixing Sulphur with any type of oil can cause severe phytotoxicity (leaf burns) and damage the crop. Maintain a gap of at least 14 to 21 days between a Sulphur spray and an oil-based spray. Sulfin Plus can be used as a tank-mix partner with other non-oil-based fungicides and insecticides, but always perform a jar test before mixing on a large scale.

Precautions & Safety

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear gloves, mask, and goggles while handling and spraying the product.
  • Avoid inhalation: Do not breathe in the dust or spray mist. The WDG formulation is dust-free, but care should still be taken.
  • Avoid contact: Prevent contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of clean water.
  • Hygiene: Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, or smoking.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from food, animal feed, and children. Keep the product in its original packaging.
  • Environmental safety: Avoid spray drift towards water bodies, non-target crops, and grazing areas.
  • Temperature caution: Do not spray when temperature exceeds 30°C to prevent leaf scorching.

Side Effects & Phytotoxicity

Avoid spraying in high-temperature conditions (above 30°C) as this can cause leaf burning or scorching, especially in sensitive crops. Certain "Sulphur-shy" crop varieties (such as specific cucurbits or apple varieties) may be sensitive to Sulphur. It is advisable to test the product on a small area before large-scale application. Do not mix with oil-based products as this can cause severe phytotoxicity.

PHI / REI & Storage

  • PHI (Pre-Harvest Interval): 3–7 days for most crops (mango, cumin, groundnut, cowpea, pea); 7–14 days for grapes and apple; 30–45 days for export-quality grapes.
  • Shelf Life: 2 years from the date of manufacture when stored in original, unopened packaging.
  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep away from food, feed, and children.
