Sumitomo Dantotsu is a broad-spectrum systemic insecticide formulated with Clothianidin 50% WDG (Water Dispersible Granules). How It Works
Dantotsu is a systemic neonicotinoid insecticide. When applied as a foliar spray or soil drench, the Clothianidin active ingredient is absorbed by the plant and translocated through its vascular system to all parts — including new growth. This means the protection travels within the plant itself, not just on the surface.
Inside the pest, Clothianidin acts as an agonist of the acetylcholine (ACh) receptors on the post-synaptic membrane of the insect's nervous system. This over-stimulates the nervous system, causing the pest to stop feeding, sucking, and laying eggs. The result is rapid paralysis and death. Because the product is taken in both orally and dermally, it works on pests that ingest treated plant tissue as well as those that come into direct contact with it. The translaminar activity ensures complete coverage of both leaf surfaces, while the systemic movement protects even the parts of the plant that were not directly sprayed.

When to Use
- Apply at the first sign of pest infestation, before populations rise sharply, for maximum effectiveness.
- For paddy BPH, spray at the active tillering stage, typically 45–60 days after transplanting, directing the spray toward the base of the plant where hoppers cluster near the waterline.
- For cotton, apply soil drench within 7 days of germination for the most effective early-season sucking pest protection.
- For sugarcane, apply at the time of sowing to prevent termites and shoot borers.
- For grapes, apply through soil drenching around the root zone at the first sign of mealybug or thrips infestation.
- For tea, spray at the flowering stage to control Tea Mosquito Bug.
- Spray during early morning or late evening, avoiding peak bee foraging hours.
- Dantotsu provides 14–21 days of residual control. Repeat as needed up to 2–3 times per season, and rotate with products from different IRAC groups after 2 consecutive applications.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Measure the required dose of Dantotsu as per the crop-wise dose table above.
- Pre-dissolve the measured WDG granules in a small amount of clean water in a separate container first.
- Add this mixture to the sprayer tank, then fill with the remaining clean water.
- Agitate well to form a uniform solution before spraying.
- For paddy BPH, direct the spray toward the base of the plant where hoppers cluster near the waterline — not just the upper leaves.
- For cotton whitefly, ensure thorough coverage of the underside of leaves where nymphs concentrate.
- For sugarcane and cotton soil drenching, dilute the required dose in 400 litres of water per acre and apply uniformly to the root zone within 7 days of germination or sowing.
- For grapes, apply through soil drenching around the root zone at the first sign of mealybug or thrips infestation.
- Spray during early morning or late evening, avoiding peak bee foraging hours.
Compatibility
Dantotsu is compatible with most commonly used insecticides, fungicides, and foliar fertilizers. However, always perform a jar test before mixing with unfamiliar inputs. Avoid mixing with strongly alkaline products.
