Sumitomo Hoshi is a plant growth regulator (PGR) formulated with Gibberellic Acid 0.001% L, a natural plant hormone that supports healthy, vigorous crop growth. It is a water-soluble liquid applied as a foliar spray. Hoshi works by promoting cell elongation and cell division, which leads to bigger-sized crops, stronger stems, longer internodes, and better flowering and fruit development. It also improves photosynthesis and nutrient uptake, helping plants mature faster and produce an early harvest.
This growth regulator is recommended for a wide range of horticultural, commercial, cereal, plantation, and floriculture crops. It is especially valued in grapes for bunch and berry elongation, in banana and citrus for fruit size, in sugarcane for internode elongation, and in floriculture for uniform flowering. Hoshi is a Green Label product, making it suitable for use in organic farming. It is compatible with most commonly used pesticides, fungicides, micronutrients, and water-soluble fertilizers, which makes it easy to include in regular spray programmes.
Key Benefits
- Promotes rapid and uniform plant growth, leading to a bigger harvest and better farm profits.
- Improves flowering, fruit setting, and fruit size, helping farmers get higher marketable yield.
- Helps prevent flower and fruit drop, supporting better flower retention and fruit set.
- Increases internodal length and cell elongation, giving crops stronger stems and better structure.
- Enhances photosynthesis and nutrient uptake, leading to healthier, more vigorous crops.
- Increases soil microbial activity, improving nutrient availability for healthy crop development.
- Compatible with most water-soluble fertilizers, micronutrients, and commonly used pesticides, making tank-mixing easy.
- Green Label certified, safe for use in organic farming practices.
How It Works
Sumitomo Hoshi supplies Gibberellic Acid, a naturally occurring plant hormone that regulates growth. When applied as a foliar spray, the product is absorbed by the leaves and shoots and moves systemically through the plant. Once inside, it triggers cell elongation, cell division, and internode lengthening. This is why treated crops show longer stems, bigger leaves, and larger fruits.
Gibberellic Acid also helps break seed and bud dormancy, promoting uniform germination and growth. It supports flower formation and improves fruit set, while increasing the final size and weight of the produce. By boosting plant metabolism and photosynthesis, Hoshi helps the crop use nutrients more efficiently, resulting in healthier plants that are better able to withstand stress. The effect of a single application lasts about 10 days, and most farmers observe a visible response within a few days of spraying.

Recommended Dosage & Application
Sumitomo Hoshi is applied as a foliar spray. The general pump dose is 15 to 25 ml per 15-litre knapsack pump. For field application, the dose varies by crop. Follow the crop-wise dosage table below for best results.
| Crop | Dose / Acre | Per 15L Pump | When to Apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grapes | 200-250 ml | 15-20 ml | Bunch elongation and berry sizing stage |
| Pomegranate | 200-300 ml | 20 ml | After fruit set and during fruit development |
| Banana | 250 ml | 20-25 ml | Bunch development and finger filling |
| Citrus, Mango | 200-300 ml | 20 ml | Pre-flowering and fruit development |
| Sugarcane | 250 ml | 20 ml | 60 and 90 days after planting |
| Cotton | 200 ml | 15 ml | Squaring and boll development |
| Tomato, Chilli, Brinjal | 200 ml | 15 ml | Pre-flowering and fruit set |
| Paddy, Wheat | 200 ml | 15 ml | Tillering and panicle initiation |
| Onion, Potato | 200 ml | 15 ml | Bulb / tuber development stage |
| Roses, Gerbera | 200 ml | 15 ml | Throughout the flowering stage |
For foliar spray, mix 1-2 ml per litre of water. A general recommended dose is 180 ml in 180-200 litres of water per acre. Apply Sumitomo Hoshi 2 to 3 times per crop cycle at 10 to 15-day intervals, depending on crop type, growth stage, and target benefit.
When to Use
The best time to apply Sumitomo Hoshi is during the pre-flowering, flowering, fruit-setting, and fruit-development stages, when crops are most responsive to growth promoters. For grapes, spray during bunch elongation and berry sizing. For banana, apply during bunch development and finger filling. For sugarcane, spray at 60 and 90 days after planting. For cotton, apply during squaring and boll development.
Spray in the early morning or late evening hours when temperatures are mild, the weather is calm, and there is no harsh sunlight. This ensures maximum absorption and minimum loss through evaporation. Avoid spraying during heavy rain or strong winds.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Shake the Sumitomo Hoshi bottle well before opening to ensure a uniform liquid.
- Measure the required quantity as per the crop-wise dosage table.
- Fill the spray tank with about 70% of the required clean water.
- Pour the measured product slowly into the tank while stirring continuously.
- Top up with the remaining water and mix thoroughly until a uniform solution is formed.
- Spray evenly on both upper and lower leaf surfaces using a fine-mist nozzle.
- Re-apply at 10 to 15-day intervals as per the crop stage and growth response.
Compatibility
Sumitomo Hoshi is compatible with most water-soluble fertilizers, micronutrients, and commonly used pesticides, including insecticides and fungicides. This allows farmers to combine it with regular crop protection sprays for better efficiency. Avoid mixing with strongly alkaline solutions. Always perform a small jar test before any large-scale tank-mixing to confirm compatibility.
