Sumitomo Sanvex SP is a broad-spectrum insecticide containing Cartap Hydrochloride 50% in a soluble powder (SP) formulation. It belongs to the Nereistoxin analogue chemical group and is manufactured by Sumitomo Chemical India Ltd. This insecticide is widely used by farmers to control a range of chewing and sucking pests in paddy, vegetables, and cotton crops. Sanvex SP works through contact, systemic, and stomach action, providing effective control across multiple pest life stages including eggs, larvae, and adults.
The product is classified as a Yellow Label (moderately toxic) insecticide and is suitable for use in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. It is effective against major pests like stem borer, leaf folder, diamondback moth (DBM), leaf miner, whitefly, jassids, shoot and fruit borer, bollworm, green leafhopper, and hispa. With its triple-mode action and compatibility with commonly used insecticides and fungicides, Sanvex SP offers farmers a reliable tool for protecting crop health and yield.
Sanvex SP is available in pack sizes of 100 gm, 250 gm, 500 gm, and 1 kg. The recommended dosage ranges from 250 to 500 grams per acre depending on the crop and target pest. It is applied as a foliar spray at the early signs of pest infestation for best results.

How It Works
Sanvex SP contains Cartap Hydrochloride, which belongs to the Nereistoxin analogue group of insecticides. This active ingredient acts on the insect's nervous system by blocking essential nerve signal transmission. When insects come into contact with the spray or consume treated plant material, the active ingredient disrupts nerve impulse transmission, leading to paralysis and eventual death.
The product works through three modes of entry: contact action kills pests that come into direct contact with the spray; systemic action allows the active ingredient to move within the plant, protecting untreated parts; and stomach action kills pests when they feed on treated plant tissue. This triple-action approach ensures comprehensive protection against biting, chewing, and sucking pests. The translaminar movement of the product allows it to penetrate leaf tissues, reaching pests that hide on the underside of leaves.

Dilution: Mix 1.5 to 2.5 grams per litre of water. Use 200 litres of water per acre for uniform coverage.
Application: Apply as a foliar spray using a high-volume knapsack sprayer. Ensure thorough coverage of the crop foliage.
When to Use
Apply Sanvex SP at the first sign of pest infestation for best results. Early application when pest populations are low provides more effective control and prevents crop damage. For preventive use, apply when conditions are favourable for pest development or during vulnerable crop stages. Choose a non-windy day with no rain forecast to avoid spray drift and washing off. The cooler hours of early morning or late afternoon are ideal for spraying, as this reduces evaporation and improves coverage. Avoid spraying during peak heat hours or when bees are actively foraging. Repeat applications may be needed based on pest pressure, following the recommended intervals on the product label.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Calculate the dose: Determine the required amount of Sanvex SP based on your crop and target pest using the dosage table above.
- Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required amount of clean water. Add the measured quantity of Sanvex SP powder and stir well until fully dissolved. Add the remaining water and mix thoroughly.
- Add adjuvant (recommended): For better spreading and sticking on leaves, mix a spreader or sticker (adjuvant) with the spray solution as per its label instructions.
- Spray application: Use a high-volume knapsack sprayer. Apply the spray uniformly on the crop foliage, ensuring good coverage on both upper and lower leaf surfaces where pests hide.
- Timing: Apply at the early stage of pest infestation. Spray during early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are cooler and wind is low.
- Post-application: Clean the spray equipment thoroughly after use. Do not empty leftover spray solution near water bodies or drainage.
Compatibility
Sanvex SP is compatible with most commonly used insecticides and fungicides. This allows for tank-mixing and flexible application strategies. However, it is always advisable to conduct a small-scale jar compatibility test before mixing with other products on a large scale. Mix in the correct order: wettable powders first, then soluble powders like Sanvex SP, followed by liquids and adjuvants.
Precautions & Safety
- Wear protective clothing including gloves, mask, and goggles during handling and spraying
- Avoid inhalation of the powder and direct skin contact with the spray solution
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling or applying the product
- Keep away from children, livestock, and domestic animals
- Do not contaminate water sources, ponds, or drainage systems during mixing or cleaning
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture
- Keep the container tightly closed after use
- Do not reuse empty containers - dispose of them safely
- Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
Sanvex SP is a broad-spectrum insecticide and may affect beneficial insects like honeybees and natural predators if applied incorrectly. To reduce risk to pollinators, spray during early morning or late afternoon when bees are less active. Avoid spray drift to non-target crops and flowering weeds. As with any chemical insecticide, follow the recommended dosage to avoid crop stress or phytotoxicity.
