Thakar Bomb is a selective post-emergence herbicide from Thakar Chemicals Ltd., specially developed to control grassy weeds in wheat crops. Its active ingredient, Clodinafop Propargyl 15% WP, works effectively against Phalaris minor (gulhi danda) and wild oats (jungli jai), two of the most damaging grass weeds in wheat fields. Being a post-emergence herbicide, it is applied after the crop and weeds have emerged, targeting only actively growing grassy weeds while keeping the wheat crop safe.
Bomb is a broad-spectrum, selective herbicide that belongs to the Aryloxyphenoxypropionate chemical group and works as an ACCase inhibitor. It acts by stopping fatty acid synthesis in grassy weeds, which halts their growth within 48 hours of application. The weeds then show yellowing (chlorosis) followed by drying (necrosis), leading to decay of nodes and growing points. This makes Bomb a fast-acting and reliable weed management solution for wheat farmers.
Bomb is safe for the parent wheat crop as well as mixed cropping systems, and it does not harm soil health. It is easy to mix and apply with a knapsack sprayer, requiring only 160 g per acre, which makes it both cost-effective and efficient. With proper timing and application, Bomb helps improve crop quality, supports healthy plant growth, and contributes to better wheat yield.
Key Benefits
- Effectively controls Phalaris minor and wild oats, the major grassy weeds in wheat fields.
- Fast-acting action with visible results within 48 hours of application.
- Selective herbicide that is safe for the wheat crop and mixed cropping systems.
- Maintains soil health with no adverse effects on the field.
- Easy to mix and apply with a standard knapsack sprayer.
- Low dosage of 160 g per acre makes it cost-effective for farmers.
- Improves crop quality, supports healthy growth, and helps boost wheat yield.
How It Works
Bomb herbicide contains Clodinafop Propargyl 15% WP, which belongs to the Aryloxyphenoxypropionate chemical group. It works as an ACCase inhibitor, meaning it blocks the enzyme responsible for fatty acid synthesis in grassy weeds. Since fatty acids are essential for building cell membranes and supporting active growth, stopping their production halts the weed's growth process.
When Bomb is sprayed on the leaves of actively growing grassy weeds, the active ingredient is absorbed through the foliage. Within 48 hours, the weed's active growth stops. The nodes and growing points begin to decay, and young leaves show chlorosis (yellowing) followed by necrosis (drying and death). Because wheat is a broadleaf crop and not a grassy weed, the herbicide selectively targets only the grassy weeds without harming the wheat plants.

Recommended Dosage & Application
| Crop | Target Weeds | Dosage per Acre | Application Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wheat | Phalaris minor, Wild oats | 160 g per acre | 30 to 35 days after sowing, at 2-4 leaf stage of weed |
Maintain a spray volume of 200-300 litres of water per acre for even coverage. Apply using a knapsack sprayer fitted with a flat fan nozzle for uniform distribution over the weeds.
When to Use
Bomb herbicide is a post-emergence herbicide, so it should be applied after the weeds have emerged and are actively growing. The ideal time is 30 to 35 days after sowing the wheat crop, when the grassy weeds are at the 2-4 leaf stage. At this stage, the weeds are young and actively growing, making them most susceptible to the herbicide.
Applying Bomb at the right time ensures maximum weed control. If applied too early, not all weeds may have emerged; if applied too late, the weeds become harder to control. For best results, spray when most grass weeds have emerged and are actively growing in the field.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Wear gloves, a mask, and protective clothing before handling the herbicide.
- Measure 160 g of Bomb herbicide for one acre of wheat crop.
- Fill the knapsack sprayer tank one-third with clean water.
- Add the measured Bomb herbicide and stir well until it dissolves completely.
- Top up the tank with water to reach the required spray volume of 200-300 litres per acre.
- Spray evenly over the actively growing weeds, ensuring good leaf coverage.
- Maintain a pre-harvest interval of at least 60 days after the last application.
Compatibility
Bomb can be used in combination with safeners for enhanced efficacy and better crop safety. It can also be used in combination with other herbicides such as metsulfuron methyl for broader weed control in wheat. However, always follow the recommended mixing order and do a small jar test before large-scale mixing to confirm compatibility.
Precautions & Safety
