Twister is a selective, systemic herbicide manufactured by Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL) containing 2,4-D Amine Salt 58% SL (Soluble Liquid formulation). It is specifically designed to control a wide range of stubborn broadleaf weeds in major cereal and cash crops like Wheat, Maize, Sorghum, Sugarcane, and Potato, as well as in aquatic and non-crop areas.
Unlike older powder-based 2,4-D formulations, Twister is a ready-to-mix liquid that dissolves instantly in water and remains effective even in hard or borewell water. It belongs to the Phenoxycarboxylic Acid chemical group (IRAC Group O – Synthetic Auxins) and works by mimicking plant growth hormones to cause a hormonal overdose in broadleaf weeds, leading to their rapid death. The amine salt formulation also produces very low volatile fumes, making it safer to use near sensitive crops compared to ester-based herbicides.

How It Works
Twister contains 2,4-D Amine Salt, which belongs to the Synthetic Auxin group of herbicides (IRAC Group O). It works by mimicking the plant's natural growth hormone (Auxin) but in an overdose quantity. When sprayed on broadleaf weeds, the chemical is rapidly absorbed through both leaves and roots. It then translocates (moves) through the plant's vascular system to reach the actively growing points — the shoot tips and root tips.
Once inside the growing points, Twister triggers uncontrolled and rapid cell division. This causes the weed's stems to curl, twist, and deform — a condition called epinasty. The abnormal growth crushes the plant's own vascular tissue, blocking the transport of water and nutrients. The weed eventually starves and dies because its food supply system is completely disrupted.
Grass crops like Wheat, Maize, and Sorghum are naturally able to metabolize (break down) 2,4-D safely, which is why they remain unharmed while broadleaf weeds are killed. This selective action makes Twister an excellent choice for post-emergence weed management in cereal crops.

Note: PHI = Pre-Harvest Interval (minimum days between last spray and harvest). For Potato, apply only before sprouting (pre-emergence). Do not spray if potato leaves are visible.
When to Use
Wheat: Apply strictly between 30 to 35 Days After Sowing (DAS), when the crop is in the tillering stage. Spraying too early can damage roots, while spraying too late (at the jointing stage) can cause deformed grain heads and reduce yield.
Potato: Must be applied before potatoes sprout (pre-emergence). Do not spray if potato leaves are visible above the ground.
Sugarcane, Maize & Sorghum: Apply during the early vegetative stage when weeds are young and actively growing for best results.
General: Apply when broadleaf weeds are in their early growth stage (2-4 leaf stage) for maximum effectiveness. Avoid spraying during windy conditions to prevent drift onto sensitive crops like cotton, tomato, okra, and grapes.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Prepare the spray solution: Fill the spray tank with half the required amount of clean water. Add the measured dose of Twister as per the crop table above. Mix well by stirring or running the agitation system. Add the remaining water and mix again until the solution is uniform.
- Select the right nozzle: Use Flat Fan or Flood Jet nozzles for uniform coverage. Avoid fine mist or cone nozzles as they can cause spray drift onto neighboring crops.
- Apply at the right time: Spray during the recommended crop stage (e.g., 30-35 DAS for wheat). Apply in the morning or evening when wind speed is low.
- Spray evenly: Ensure complete and uniform coverage of the weed foliage. Do not over-spray or allow runoff.
- Post-application safety: Do not enter the sprayed field for at least 48 hours (re-entry interval). Wash all spray equipment thoroughly after use.
- Clean up: Wash hands, face, and exposed skin with soap and water. Wash contaminated clothing separately before reuse.
Compatibility
- Twister mixes easily with water and is stable in hard water due to its sequestering agents.
- If mixing with other herbicides, always perform a small glass jar test (physical compatibility test) first.
- Avoid mixing with Zinc-based products or cationic herbicides like Paraquat.
- When using with grass killers (e.g., Clodinafop), it is generally safer to apply them separately (sequentially) with a gap of 5-7 days between sprays. Mixing in the same tank may reduce the effectiveness of the grass killer.
