UPL Dost Super is a selective pre-emergence herbicide from UPL, formulated with Pendimethalin 38.7% CS (Capsule Suspension). It is designed to control annual grass and broadleaf weeds in soybean, cotton, chilli, and onion before the weeds emerge from the soil. By stopping weeds at the germination stage, Dost Super keeps the field clean during the critical early growth period, helping crops establish strongly and grow without competition for water, nutrients, and sunlight.

The micro-encapsulated CS formulation gives Dost Super several practical advantages. It has low volatility, which means less product is lost to the air, so every drop works effectively. The formulation also provides uniform coverage across the field and offers long-lasting residual control, reducing the need for repeated applications. Because it is a selective herbicide, it targets weeds while remaining safe for the registered crops when used at the recommended dose and stage.

Dost Super works by disturbing cell division in the root tips of germinating weed seeds, preventing new cells from forming. As a result, weed seedlings stop growing and die before they can emerge above the soil. This makes Dost Super a dependable choice for farmers who want a clean, weed-free start for their crops and better yields at harvest.

Key Benefits

  • Controls a wide range of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds before they emerge, keeping the field clean during the critical early growth stage.
  • Micro-encapsulated CS formulation reduces photo-volatile losses, so the herbicide stays effective in the soil for longer.
  • Provides long-lasting residual activity, reducing the need for frequent repeat applications.
  • Selective action targets weeds while remaining safe for soybean, cotton, chilli, and onion at the recommended dose.
  • Uniform spray coverage ensures every part of the field gets consistent weed control.
  • Supports strong crop establishment by removing early-season weed competition for water, nutrients, and sunlight.
  • Low volatile formulation means better efficiency per drop and less product wastage.

How It Works

Dost Super contains Pendimethalin, an active ingredient from the dinitroaniline chemical group. It works as a pre-emergence herbicide, meaning it acts on weed seeds before they germinate and emerge from the soil. When applied to the soil surface, Pendimethalin forms a thin chemical barrier in the upper soil layer.

When weed seeds begin to germinate, their roots and shoots come into contact with this chemical layer. Pendimethalin disturbs the process of cell division (mitosis) in the root tips of the germinating weed seeds. It inhibits tubulin polymerisation, which blocks the formation of the mitotic spindle and stops cell division in the meristematic tissue of the weed roots and shoots. As a result, the weed seedlings cannot grow roots or shoots properly, and they die before they can emerge above the soil surface.

Because the CS formulation is micro-encapsulated, the active ingredient is released slowly over time. This extends the period of weed control and improves crop safety compared to older formulations. The herbicide is absorbed through both the leaves and roots of weed plants, and its low volatility ensures that more of the product stays where it is needed in the soil.

Recommended Dosage & Application

The recommended dose of Dost Super is 600-700 ml per acre, mixed in 200 litres of water. This works out to approximately 3-3.5 ml per litre of water, or 45-52 ml per 15-litre knapsack pump. The dosage is consistent across all registered crops.

For seed treatment, Dost Super can also be applied at the rate of 100 ml per 10 kg of seeds. Ensure the dosage is accurately measured to optimise benefits.

When to Use

Dost Super should be applied before weeds emerge from the soil. The most critical application window is 0-3 days after sowing for direct-seeded crops like cotton and soybean, or immediately after transplanting for chilli and onion. Apply the herbicide before any weed seeds have germinated and before any weed seedlings have broken the soil surface.

Adequate soil moisture is essential at the time of application. Apply Dost Super after the first post-sowing irrigation or immediately before expected rainfall for best herbicide incorporation into the topsoil. Choose a non-windy, no-rain day for application to avoid drift and washing away. The cooler hours of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon, are ideal for spraying.

One pre-emergent application per season is generally sufficient for season-long early-weed control. If late-emerging weeds appear after the residual period, a follow-up post-emergent herbicide from a different HRAC group may be applied.

Step by Step Usage Instructions

  1. Measure 600-700 ml of Dost Super herbicide per acre as per the dose table above.
  2. Add the measured quantity to a sprayer tank half-filled with clean water and mix well. The CS formulation mixes readily without any special pre-mixing step.
  3. Fill with the remaining clean water and agitate to form a uniform spray solution before application.
  4. Apply as a uniform broadcast spray over the entire field surface. Use a flat fan nozzle for even coverage of the soil surface.
  5. Apply immediately after sowing for direct-seeded crops or after transplanting for transplanted crops. Always apply before weeds emerge from the soil surface.
  6. Ensure adequate soil moisture at the time of application. Apply after the first post-sowing irrigation or immediately before expected rainfall for best herbicide incorporation into the topsoil.
  7. Do not disturb the soil surface after spraying. Tillage or cultivation after application breaks the chemical barrier and reduces efficacy.
  8. Do not spray during windy conditions that could cause uneven coverage or drift.

Compatibility

Dost Super is compatible with most herbicides. However, always perform a jar test before mixing Pendimethalin 38.7% CS with unfamiliar products. Avoid mixing with strongly alkaline inputs. It is recommended to use Dost Super as a single chemical rather than mixing it with other chemicals unless advised by an expert or supported by label claims. When used as a post-emergent herbicide, a spreader or sticker (adjuvant) can be mixed for better results.

Precautions & Safety

  • Wear protective gear including gloves, goggles, and a face mask to avoid contact with skin and eyes while using Dost Super.
  • Avoid eating, drinking, and smoking while applying the spray.
  • Keep Dost Super away from children and pets at all times.
  • Wash hands and all exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after every application session.
  • Triple rinse empty containers, puncture, and dispose of them per local waste guidelines.
  • The product is strictly for agricultural and gardening use only.
  • Do not enter treated fields for at least 12 hours after application. Avoid walking through the sprayed area before the spray has dried to prevent disturbing the soil surface herbicide barrier.
