Pendimethalin 30 EC dose is the same for every brand, because every brand is the same technical at the same concentration: Pendimethalin 30% EC. Dose does not change because the packet says Pendamil, Pendifix, Pendistar, Dost, Gadar or SWAL Pendi. Dose changes by crop and by soil type, light, medium or heavy, and that is the only dose difference that matters. This guide gives the one technical dose, from the registered label claims for Pendimethalin 30% EC, converted from per hectare to per acre, so it can be used for any 30% EC brand at Spraykaro.

The one Pendimethalin 30% EC dose, by crop and soil

The label dose is given per hectare. One hectare is 2.47 acres, so divide the per-hectare figure by 2.47 to get the per-acre figure. Active ingredient, or a.i., is the pendimethalin itself. Formulation is the 30% EC liquid in the bottle: 1.0 kg of a.i. per hectare needs 3.3 litres of formulation per hectare, 1.25 kg needs 4.2 litres, and 1.5 kg needs 5.0 litres, because the formulation is 30% active ingredient.

Wheat, light soil1.0 kg3.3 litres1300 ml200 to 280 litres
Wheat, medium soil1.25 kg4.2 litres1700 ml200 to 280 litres

Pigeon Pea0.7 to 1.0 kg2.5 to 3.33 litres1000 to 1350 mlAbout 200 litres

For wheat, that is the whole story: 1300 ml per acre in light soil, 1700 ml in medium soil and 2000 ml in heavy soil, for Pendamil, Pendifix, Pendistar, Dost, Gadar and SWAL Pendi alike. SWAL Pendi's own dose table gives the same dose in the other unit: 1.0 kg, 1.25 kg and 1.5 kg per hectare for wheat. Those are the active ingredient figures above, not a different dose. Converted to formulation, they are exactly 3.3, 4.2 and 5.0 litres per hectare, or 1300, 1700 and 2000 ml per acre.

Pendimethalin 30 EC dose per litre and per pump, for wheat

Dose per litre equals dose per acre divided by water per acre. At the usual wheat water volume of 200 litres per acre, wheat dose per litre is 6.5 ml in light soil, 8.5 ml in medium soil and 10 ml in heavy soil. In a 15-litre knapsack sprayer, that is about 100 ml, 130 ml and 150 ml per pump. If you use more water, up to 280 litres per acre, the dose per litre falls in proportion, but the dose per acre does not change. Do not mix a per-litre figure from one water volume with a dose from another, and do not use a per-litre figure from another crop for wheat.

When and how to apply it

Apply within 0 to 3 days after sowing or transplanting, on moist soil, before weeds emerge. Pendimethalin 30% EC is a pre-emergence herbicide only: it forms a chemical barrier on the soil surface, and weed seeds that germinate through it have their cell division stopped. It does not kill weeds that are already visible. Use a flat fan or flood jet nozzle, walk backwards while spraying so footprints do not break the barrier, and do not disturb the soil for at least 10 days after application. Soil moisture activates it, so apply after pre-sowing irrigation, or give a light irrigation within 24 to 48 hours if the soil is dry.

Why brand pages sometimes show different numbers

Brand pages sometimes show a simplified range, or the dose in active ingredient instead of formulation, or the dose for one soil type only. That does not make the technical dose different. All Pendimethalin 30% EC products are 30% active ingredient, so for the same crop and the same soil, the formulation dose is the same. If a brand label for the exact product you bought gives a different figure, follow that label, but do not choose a brand because you think its dose is lower or higher: at the same concentration, a lower dose is simply less active ingredient, not a better product.
