Crystal Eldrin is a broad-spectrum insecticide containing Chlorpyrifos 20% EC, a well-known organophosphate formulation trusted by Indian farmers for effective pest management. This insecticide works through both contact and stomach action, making it highly effective against a wide range of chewing and sucking pests including bollworms, stem borers, aphids, whiteflies, leaf rollers, and termites. Eldrin is manufactured by Crystal Crop Protection, a reputed brand in the Indian agri-input market, and is suitable for use on multiple crops such as paddy, cotton, sugarcane, groundnut, brinjal, cabbage, tobacco, bean, and gram.
The product belongs to the organophosphate chemical group and acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor, disrupting the nervous system of target pests. It is available as an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) formulation, which mixes easily with water for foliar spray or soil drench applications. Farmers also rely on Eldrin for termite control in both agricultural fields and building foundations. With a dosage range of 400–1500 ml per acre depending on the crop and pest, Crystal Eldrin offers a versatile and dependable solution for reducing pest pressure and protecting crop yield.
Key Benefits
- Broad-spectrum control of both chewing pests (caterpillars, bollworms, stem borers) and sucking pests (aphids, whiteflies, jassids) in one product
- Dual mode of action — contact and stomach poison — ensures quick knockdown and lasting protection
- Effective termite control for crops (soil drench) and building foundations (1:19 dilution)
- Suitable for 9+ major crops including paddy, cotton, sugarcane, vegetables, and pulses
- EC formulation mixes easily with water and works well with standard knapsack sprayers
- Can be integrated into IPM (Integrated Pest Management) programs for sustainable pest control
- Helps reduce crop losses and improve overall yield quality when used as directed
How It Works
Crystal Eldrin contains Chlorpyrifos 20% EC, which belongs to the organophosphate group of insecticides. When sprayed on plants or applied to soil, the product works in two ways. First, as a contact poison — it directly kills pests when the spray droplets touch their body. Second, as a stomach poison — when pests feed on treated plant parts, the chemical enters their digestive system and starts acting.
Once inside the pest's body, Chlorpyrifos inhibits an essential enzyme called cholinesterase. This enzyme is responsible for controlling nerve signal transmission. When it is blocked, the pest's nervous system becomes overstimulated, leading to paralysis and eventually death. This mode of action makes Eldrin effective against a wide range of insect pests including lepidopteran larvae (caterpillars, bollworms, stem borers), sucking pests (aphids, whiteflies), and termites. The EC formulation ensures good coverage and retention on plant surfaces, providing effective protection during the critical growth stages of the crop.

General dilution: Mix the recommended dose in 200–300 litres of clean water per acre for foliar spray application.
For termite control in buildings: Mix Eldrin with water in a 1:19 ratio (1 part Eldrin + 19 parts water) and apply to affected soil or foundation areas.
When to Use
The right timing of Eldrin application is important for effective pest control. Based on the crop and pest, here are the recommended application windows:
- Paddy: Apply during tillering to booting stage when Hispa, leaf roller, gall midge, or stem borer infestation is noticed
- Bean: Apply at flowering stage when aphid or pod borer appears
- Gram: Apply during early vegetative stage for cutworm control
- Sugarcane: Apply 1–2 months after planting for early shoot borer and pyrilla control
- Cotton: Apply at pre-flowering stage when bollworm, aphid, or whitefly infestation begins
- Groundnut: Apply from vegetative to flowering stage for aphid and root grub
- Brinjal: Apply at early fruiting stage for fruit and shoot borer
- Cabbage: Apply during leaf development stage for diamond back moth
- Tobacco: Apply during early vegetative stage for ground beetle
Always monitor pest levels in the field and apply at the first signs of infestation for best results. Avoid spraying during heavy rain or strong winds.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Wear protective gear: Put on gloves, mask, and eye protection before handling the product.
- Measure the dose: Check the recommended dosage for your crop from the table above. Use a measuring cup for accurate measurement.
- Mix with water: Add the measured quantity of Eldrin to 200–300 litres of clean water per acre in the spray tank.
- Stir thoroughly: Mix the solution well until it forms a uniform milky emulsion.
- Fill sprayer: Pour the mixture into a knapsack sprayer fitted with a hollow cone nozzle.
- Spray uniformly: Apply the spray evenly on the crop canopy, covering both upper and lower leaf surfaces.
- Avoid drift: Do not spray near water bodies, beehives, or non-target crops. Avoid spraying during high wind.
- Clean equipment: After spraying, wash the sprayer and all equipment thoroughly with clean water.
- For termite control: Mix Eldrin with water in 1:19 ratio and apply to soil or building foundations where termite activity is seen.
Precautions & Safety
- Store in original container with lid tightly closed, in a cool, dry place away from moisture and sunlight
- Keep away from children, food items, animal feed, and drinking water sources
- Wear gloves, mask, eye protection, and long-sleeved clothing while handling and spraying
- Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. In case of contact, wash immediately with plenty of water
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product
- Wash hands and face thoroughly with soap and water after use
- Do not spray near ponds, rivers, or other water bodies to protect aquatic life
- Dispose of empty containers safely — do not reuse for any purpose
- Antidote: In case of poisoning, administer atropine immediately and seek medical help
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate insecticide and can be toxic if misused. It may affect non-target organisms including beneficial insects and aquatic life if spray drifts into water bodies. Always follow the recommended dosage — over-application may cause crop stress or residue issues. Use only on the specified crops and at the recommended stages to avoid any adverse effects.
