IIL Lethal Super 505 is a broad-spectrum, dual-action insecticide from Insecticides India Limited (IIL). It combines two powerful active ingredients — Chlorpyrifos 50% and Cypermethrin 5% — in an Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC) formulation. This combination brings together an organophosphate and a pyrethroid to deliver effective control against a wide range of sucking pests, chewing insects, caterpillars, borers, and red slugs that attack major field crops and horticultural crops.
Lethal Super 505 works through contact, stomach, and vapour action. Chlorpyrifos acts as a nerve poison by inhibiting the acetylcholinesterase enzyme, while Cypermethrin disrupts sodium channels in the insect nervous system. Together, they cause rapid paralysis and death of the pest. The xylene-based solvent helps the product penetrate deep into plant foliage and reach hidden pests, including those protected by waxy coatings or larval coverings. This makes it highly effective during pest outbreaks when quick action is needed.
Farmers use Lethal Super 505 on crops such as cotton, rice (paddy), vegetables, fruits, pulses, and oilseeds. It is effective against aphids, jassids, whiteflies, thrips, bollworms, stem borers, leaf folders, pod borers, fruit flies, and red slugs. The product provides fast knockdown with extended residual activity on leaf surfaces, typically lasting 7–14 days depending on crop and pest pressure. It is compatible with most other insecticides, fungicides, and growth promoters, making it a flexible option for integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
Key Benefits
- Dual-action control — Combines contact, stomach, and vapour action for thorough pest coverage
- Fast knockdown — Cypermethrin provides rapid paralysis and quick visible results after spraying
- Broad-spectrum effectiveness — Controls both sucking pests (aphids, jassids, whiteflies, thrips) and chewing pests (caterpillars, borers, red slugs, beetles)
- Extended residual protection — Chlorpyrifos provides longer-lasting activity on leaf surfaces, reducing need for frequent sprays
- Deep penetration — Xylene-based formulation helps reach hidden pests under leaf cover and waxy larval coatings
- Compatible with IPM — Can be mixed with other insecticides, fungicides, and growth promoters for flexible pest management
- Protects yield — Timely application minimizes pest damage and supports healthier crop growth and better harvests
How It Works
Lethal Super 505 uses a two-pronged attack on the insect nervous system. Chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate, works by inhibiting the acetylcholinesterase enzyme. This enzyme is essential for breaking down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter. When it is blocked, acetylcholine builds up in the insect's nerve junctions, causing continuous nerve firing, loss of coordination, paralysis, and eventually death. This effect is both contact and systemic — the product is absorbed by the plant and moves within it, providing protection to parts not directly sprayed.
Cypermethrin, a pyrethroid, works differently. It interferes with sodium channels in the nerve cell membranes, preventing them from closing properly. This causes repeated nerve impulses, leading to rapid paralysis — often called the "knockdown" effect. The insect is unable to move or feed and dies quickly.
Together, these two modes of action make it very difficult for pests to develop resistance. The product also has vapour action, meaning it releases active ingredient vapours that improve coverage within the crop canopy. This helps reach pests hiding in dense foliage or curled leaves. The xylene solvent aids quick penetration through the insect's outer shell and plant surfaces, making the product effective even against hard-bodied larvae and termites.

Application method: Foliar spray using a knapsack sprayer or tractor-mounted sprayer. Use 200–400 ml of product per acre (approximately 200–300 litres of spray solution per acre). Apply at the first sign of pest infestation for best results. Repeat at 10–15 day intervals or as advised by local agricultural experts.
When to Use
Apply Lethal Super 505 at the early stage of pest infestation, when pest populations are still low and easier to control. Early application prevents the pests from multiplying and causing significant crop damage. For sucking pests like aphids, jassids, and whiteflies, spray as soon as you notice them on the underside of leaves or on tender shoots. For caterpillars and borers, apply when egg hatching or early larval stages are observed, before they bore into stems or fruits.
For rice crops, apply during the tillering to booting stage to control stem borers and leaf folders. For cotton, spray during the early vegetative and flowering stages when bollworms and sucking pests are active. For vegetables, apply from the 3–4 leaf stage onward. For pulses and oilseeds, spray during the vegetative to pre-flowering stage to protect against pod borers.
Avoid spraying during strong wind, heavy rain, or extreme heat, as these conditions reduce spray coverage and effectiveness. The best time for application is early morning or late afternoon when temperatures are lower and wind is calm. Repeat application at 10–15 day intervals if pest pressure continues, or as per local advisory.
Step by Step Usage Instructions
- Wear protective gear — Put on gloves, a face mask, goggles, and protective clothing before handling the product.
- Measure the dosage — Use a measuring cup to take 2.5–3 ml of Lethal Super 505 for every 1 litre of clean water.
- Mix thoroughly — Add the measured product to water in the spray tank and stir well until a uniform milky solution forms.
- Fill the sprayer — Pour the mixture into a clean knapsack sprayer or tractor-mounted sprayer. Ensure the sprayer nozzle is clean and working properly.
- Spray uniformly — Apply the spray evenly over the crop, covering both upper and lower leaf surfaces. Pay special attention to tender shoots, leaf undersides, and stem areas where pests hide.
- Clean after use — Wash the sprayer thoroughly with clean water after spraying. Do not dispose of leftover spray solution near water bodies or drainage.
- Maintain interval — Repeat application after 10–15 days if needed, or as advised by your local agriculture officer.
Compatibility
Lethal Super 505 is compatible with most commonly used insecticides, fungicides, and plant growth promoters. This makes it suitable for tank mixing and integrated pest management programs. However, do not mix with highly alkaline solutions, as alkalinity can reduce the effectiveness of the product. When mixing with other products, always follow the correct mixing order: wettable powders first, then suspension concentrates, then emulsifiable concentrates, and finally adjuvants. Perform a small jar test before large-scale mixing if compatibility is uncertain.
Precautions & Safety
- Personal protection: Wear gloves, face mask, goggles, and protective clothing while mixing and spraying the product.
- During application: Do not eat, drink, or smoke while handling the product. Avoid inhalation of spray mist.
- After spraying: Wash hands, face, and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water. Wash protective gear separately.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep in the original container, tightly closed.
- Keep away: Store out of reach of children, pets, food items, animal feed, and water sources.
- Environmental care: Do not contaminate ponds, rivers, or other water bodies during spraying or cleaning of equipment.
- Disposal: Do not reuse empty containers. Dispose of them safely as per local regulations.
Side Effects & Phytotoxicity
When used at the recommended dosage and as per label instructions, Lethal Super 505 is safe for the target crops. However, avoid over-application or spraying during extreme heat, as this may cause stress to the crop. As with all chemical insecticides, it may affect beneficial insects and natural predators if sprayed indiscriminately. Use as part of an integrated pest management approach to minimize impact on non-target organisms.
